Cool idea. I proposed Updating the Ranks. 3 more values of the 3 top winners would be cool.

 

I also enjoyed the make a caption ones in the past as well!

I was thinking maybe writing a tipit themesong or a song about tipit (Not necessarily about tipit, but maybe about a certain board or something) would be cool.

 

And post the voting thread as a global announcement, not just on general!

A global announcement has always been creating saying something like:

 

 

 

"The Tip.it Rank Contest is back again! This contest is: ____________. To participate in this contest, visit the following thread: ________."

 

 

 

Then the actual thread is posted in General Discussion but the global announcement ALWAYS has a link to it.

If you do image captions again (which I wouldn't mind at all, they're a lot of fun) could I suggest setting it up similar to the way cracked.com does it and then allowing users to vote?

Maybe an image caption contest again, like what was done in the past. So, I agree with Errdoth.

Image captions means everyone can join in not just those with art or music skills. I support.

I'm against the "letting users vote for each other thing though". People will just vote for friends, who may not have made a good entry.

I don't know if someone said this already, but you could do a general song about runescape.

Captions are great fun. :

Captions are fun but they aren't exciting if there isn't anything new to go around.

 

 

 

People could write a like a short story(As in like 4 to 6 lines (120-170 characters?) about RuneScape, which relates to the caption/phrase/rank in a humourous, serious, or whatever kind of way/theme.

 

 

 

Say the new rank that is being proposed by the user is 'Shark Wrangler', the story or poem or whatever would be related to fishing in some way.

 

 

 

I'd rather read a poem, or a short story then a 5 letter caption to a pre-selected image. As well like above it could also be a song, or some form of literature.

 

 

 

I'm also pretty sure that people will write a poem/short story for a rank for themselves or everyone in general. It seems like it could be entertaining.

Another thing you could do is have people take screenshots of the new HD mode, and make a caption off of that. This way it's different, but you still get your captions.

I think the size of the competition needs thought. By that i mean how much is needed for the entry, i know personally if i needed to write over 10 lines or take mor than half an hour on the competition i probably wouldn't enter it. thats why something short like suggesting a new rank or a caption is good.

 

Which is why I said 120-160 characters. Though it could be lower, to say 80-100. Or max of 160 characters.

Yeah anything longer and i think alot less people would be willing to try.

I have to be honest, I don't like either of those. The first one just isn't very exiting, and the second one, well, this goes for both actually, but not everyone here has sufficient English skills. Can't blame them, it isn't an easy language.

I agree with the Short Story idea, but competitors should have more options on what to write about, maybe 5 possible topics, then just having one. In saying that, if there was just one then it would be easier to judge so it would be less bias on contestants.

 

The caption contest sounds good however, as everyone has the chance to join in, not just people with good computer,graphics, writing skills etc.

Stories and anything else that includes a lot of reading isn't a good idea. You have to think about the judging part of the contest. How many entries do the Staff get? Usually around 75-250 or so. Now can you imagine the Staff all reading 75-250 short stories? And no offense, but I'm sure a number of them aren't even very interesting (since not everyone on the forum is a writer, but most people want a chance at the custom rank). Thats just.. not reasonable.

I agree with Tripsis , we don't want anything that will require excessive going over. It would take too much time to go over. I do like caption contests but maybe we could take a different approach.
