A world without internet

A lot of us would probably have much more free time, have higher grades, participate in more social events, etc. On the other hand, the internet is a great way for communicating and transferring information. The internet really is a revolutionary piece of work.

So, where would you be if it weren't for the internet? Or better yet, what would you do if tomorrow the internet suddenly stopped working forever?

I'd probably be bored and lost for about a week. No TIF, no Wiki, no music. On the bright side, after my internet withdrawals passed ( :geek: ), I'd probably get into sports. I find them really fun, but sadly seeing other kids outside is a pretty rare sight nowadays. A lot more people would probably be outside since they don't have internet either, so I predict my community would pass time with outdoors games... either that or television.

I think it'd be more of a hassle, since some people manage bank accounts and pay bills over the internet. And sometimes I order things over the internet because I don't feel like making my mom pay for gas, because that's skyrocketing.

It'd be really hectic for some people. But in the world of people, there will be one person who will create it in that working world! Except maybe not Bill Gates. Haha.

EDIT: I got it Happy. Was kinda funny.

I would watch an amount of tv to equal or exceed the amount of time I spend on the computer.

It would give people some good researching skills, instead of good google skills. On a whole it would be harder to find out information on basically anything. You would have to use Libraries, those forgotten places with books, and you might have to travel places just to find a bit of information. We use the internet so much nowadays that it is hard to imagine what life would be like without it.

I would play single-player games. There's plenty of them. They might not be as good as multiplayer ones, but still.

Otherwise, my friends would actually get phones. :o We'd hang out more, whether it be playing tennis or something, going to my friend's house to play Brawl or just getting together to talk. No more Xfire chatrooms... :|

I'd have more time to play piano, and would be a lot better. Also, I'd exercise more...Something I really need to do...(I'm way too underweight)

I would also read more...Still wouldn't really favor going outside.

And then, to be really cliched, I would invent the internet.

To be honest though, I've gone without internet for days before. (Oh...Wow...DAYS!??!?!) However, the only time it happened when I was at home (We had a bunch of thunderstorms, knocked out something...), I just played around with Photoshop. Yes...For four days in a row...I made some crazy map that I can't figure out anymore. :geek:

If all forms of electrical entertainment were wiped out, I don't know what I'd do. I've gone on retreats (Camps with my youth group at church...We go to a campsite in the middle of nowhere...No computers, TVs, etc.) so I'd probably be able to handle it for a while, and then I'd adapt.

I'd play sports a hell of a lot more. I play lots of hockey already, but in summer I'd start playing soccer, organizing games for people my age group weekly, stuff like that. I'd also improve my golf game a lot. Beyond that, I'd actually have to talk to people, so I'd improve my social skills as well.

Hmm, come to think of it, I went without internet for over two weeks this summer so I didn't really care. I knew I would have access again in a few days. My mentality might be a little different knowing I'll never be able to use it again.

The internet, for me, has revolutionised how I spend my valuable spare time. After running out of art supplies, I can make digital art on the computer *points to sig shop* and easily show people around the world. I no longer watch tv, as I find it highly dull. I have been playing less, and less Ps2, and more and more internet. I would have never found any friends around the world, but thanks to things like tif and *cough* runescape, I know have.

It truly is a wonderful place for nearly everything!!!

Including porn

3.5 years playing runescape would have been spent elsewhere. On retrospect that's probably a good thing. I'd also lose a lot of knowledge from this forum, wiki, etc.... Acceptable. Hours upon hours of anime watched, erm, that's kinda not so good (I'd have just read mangas in a library).

The killer is that I would have missed out on Classics that I was too young to see and had to download via ROMs (Zelda OoT of course, but also Conker's bad fur day!).

Thats an easy one, i'd try to get it working again.

Hehe, good answer. ::'

To be honest, I don't think I'd be much more social if the internet didn't exist. Although I spend a lot of my time on the internet, I am a fairly social person. When I'm online, half the time I'm talking on MSN to people I know in real life, and building friendships with them that way. It also serves as a great way for organizing hang-out times. I think if the internet didn't exist.. I'd just rely on my phone a hell of a lot more. That said, I'd probably be a fair bit fitter.

Cool.

I'd be pretty bored. Instead of watching TV I usually play internet games, most of the time RS. I'd also have much less information available to me for school projects and no porn to...........ye.........you see where I'm going with this.

If the Internet ever goes offline that's pretty much the end of society.

It is now far to integrated into modern society to ever be removed, it is now the backbone of most services.

When I was working in the IT industry all our corporate clients used email as a primary source of communication and it was always very important that we migrate the users email settings (normally in Outlook) across to the new system when doing system upgrades (new replacements). The loss of Email alone would cause many corporation's to effectively shut down.

It is important to note that The Web and The Internet are both different. The Web is just one part of the Internet just as email is another part.

Last part is absolutely true.. Some ignorant people just think of the "internet", and think junk, adult content, scammers, pirates, etc...

But that's just the trash of the "web" (which does have some gems too). The internet connects PC's, libraries, company infrastructure... Modern western countries can't survive without internet connections anymore. Banking, businesses, EVERYTHING relies on fast internet connection availability. It's not optional, it's here to stay.

I would read books \'

I used to read books... before I got internet.

Speaking of that, both of my parents' jobs involve the internet so they would both be out of a job if it happened. My dad has to fix cables - and with no internet that job would be pointless. My mom works for a credit card company so she has to rely on an online database.
