"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

Uh oh. One of my closest friends, I'm pretty sure she's starting to have feelings for me. And, I really like her. It's just gonna be wierd. My best friend has a date this weekend, and we're likely going to be accompanying him. Hoping it'll be a good way to start off the year - thinking that it won't be much different to us just all hanging out again (we haven't all hung out together in a few weeks).

My friend ain't exactly the best with the ladies. He's too used to hanging out with older guys, his sibling's friends - me and him both are. Buuuuuut, I think he'll be better if another one of our friends doesn't come. He's an [wagon] to girls, even though he's still our buddy.

Huh. Now I bet I'll feel wierd asking one of my closest friends to help us double-date with our other ... closest ... friend.

Man, we just need to bring some weed and it'll be a total That 70's Show moment.

Awkward dates suck. Good luck with the friend that likes you though. Do you like her, as well? If your friend starts acting like a jerk, just change the topic or distract him. Help him out, its the best part about doubling with your friend.

as for the the whole asking out argument. My relationship(s) all started over the internet. Just cause we were both too chicken to say stuff to each other's face's at first. We got over it though. Me and my girl are still together after over a year. It's been going pretty well. I'm going to side with, "it doesn't matter how you get together, it's just important that you do".

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

I doubt it'll be awkward. Me and the guy are two wild and craaaaaaaazy guuuys. And the girl's been a really close friend since last year, and I had feelings for her before then.

Might be awkward for my friend's date, though. We have too many inside jokes.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I hardly ever tell me parents who I'm going out. My birthday is coming up and I wanted to go the neighbor islands to go fishing...and bring my girl friend.

I find it really awkward talking to my parents about relationships and who I like/going out with. But i want her to goooo. :wall:

Lent (what is your name btw...) You could use it as an opportunity to provide a good example on how to treat women? Maybe the guy only has negative examples to come by and therefore, that's all he knows. You could just warn your date or lady friend that sometimes he's an [wagon] so she can be prepared for it but let her know you won't put up with it if he is. And then if he acts like a douche, just say bro, that really wasn't called for etc You might fear loss of friendship or whatever but you're only teaching him that it's disrespectful. And he can watch how you act all day and he might take it aboard.

[hide=just quoting myself because I don't feel like re-typing the story]Quick little question here. See I was sitting in my algebra class, drawing comics since it was the last day before winter break (the friday before last), and this one girl I know came up to me and started talking. Some time later she said something along the lines of "well I know you walk home every day and I feel sad when I see you walking in the rain so here's my # if you ever need a ride." (we live in the same neighborhood). I was kind of out of it since I was tired, so I didn't really think much of it other than the fact that it's the first time a girl gave me her number without me asking.

Originally I was going to wait until a rainy day so I could call her but I recently stumbled upon the thought that maybe she wanted me to call her even if it wasn't raining (sorry if I worded that wrong, but i'm pretty sure you know what I mean). My only concern is she really only intended for me to call her if it was raining, and that she would be a little weirded out if I just called to chat. Although it's probably just my paranoia, she doesn't seem like that type of person.

Anyhoo I was just wondering you guys' opinions on it, as in should I call her now? Or has it been to late (almost a week and a half)? And please excuse my lack of standard dating knowledge, I'm still pretty new at this :P

Basically, I decided to call her and ended up texting with her quite a bit. A few days later we ended up hanging out by a lake and talked for about an hour and a half and she made me a... balloon animal... long story though, and I don't feel like telling. Anyways it seems like she might actually be interested in me, and I think I might be interested in her. I mean, she's extremely pretty, she lives only three houses down from me, and she's a nice person. Looks like a winning combination to me. Only problem is I'm not exactly sure when or how to ask her out. The first two times I've asked a girl out I completely screwed up.. I mean, how do you guys do it? Just ask her to a movie? Also I'm worried I'll get friendzoned if I don't ask her out soon enough, but I don't want to ask her out too soon because it just feels weird to me. I've been talking with her for a week and the conversations have already started to die down so I'm getting rather nervous.

You've got to be careful with simply asking them to go do something with you. If they can't see the underlying intentions, you're simply going to do something as friends.

Example: A guy wanted my gf to go to the movie with him and she assumed her friend just wanted to go see a movie. I told her it's fine as long as he actually knows about me. Long story short, they didn't go to the movie.

The easiest way to ask a girl out and have your intentions up front is to simply ask them if they'll go out with you. From there you can plan maybe a date or something. But should you choose to ask her to a movie you should try to make it obvious that you don't want to simply go as friends. Maybe ask her shortly before you depart and leave with a hug or show some sort of affection. As far as specifically when to do it, that's up to you. It's best done in a more private setting though.

Good luck man :)

i was never great at that either. I go for an innocent kind of approach with the question so it would souind something along these lines ideally:

me: Hey, you wanna go (date planned) with me sometime?

girl: yeah sure, what are we going to do there?

me: I was thinking (insert movie, or whatever other plans)

girl: sounds fun, when are we going out?

me: I was thinking (insert date and time)

girl: okay, I'll see you then

me: *smiles flirtily* so is this gonna be a date thing or a friend thing

girl: (regardless answer)

in this way I can not only prove if they're interested in me, but completely avoid the friend zone. or immediatly get shoved in the friend zone. but the plus side is - I'll know.

How do I tell if a girl likes me? I'm not guaranteed, I'm just a little suspicious about it. I'm thinking of finally making a move on her and yes she dosen't have a boyfriend. Also, how should I make the first move?

Etc. Asking her to the movies when she's alone, flirt with her alittle ..

Yeah the more you think about it the more doubt you will have. It is like ripping a bandaid off. It will hurt taking it off really quickly but it will be worse taking it off slowly.

Well, I would wait until you're surrounded by people that would mock and humiliate you if you were rejected. JUUUUST KIDDING.

I can't help you that much with the girl liking you, always been a guess for me.

My friend's date fell through. But I'm still going with the girl to a record shop to hang out a while tomorrow or Sunday. Heh.

Also. A new girl in school, that is very good looking (from New York or something) and blatantly flirts with me...

Is gay. Wtf. I walked with her to her class, and there she started to kiss her girlfriend. Who was not attractive. Although it was still hot.

Can someone please explain to me why girls cannot tell when a guy likes them?

Example: My gf met this guy at school 2 days ago and became friends with him. No big deal to me, she can have guy friends if she wants. Now they talk quite a bit and she comments to me how he texts her more than I do (I sent her 200-300 messages/day) and she told me about a conversation they had where he said something he owned was blue and mentioned how it was her favorite color. And they had another conversation about liking people and I won't even go into details but in my mind he made it obvious of his intentions. So I told my gf that the guy obviously likes her and she (knowing I can be jealous) went off about how they're just friends and I had to explain firstly that I don't care if he likes her and secondly I had to show her how he did. I used the two points mentioned: 1. No guy willingly gives up endless hours to talk to a girl he just met without intentions of being more than friends and 2. People don't generally point out things they know about someone else unless they want it to be known that they were listening well. I found it quite humorous but then I came back to the original question as I've seen it happen many times before..

She knew. She's not an idiot, at least from what you've told us she sounds like a decent girl. It's the attention factor. He makes her feel good about herself, so she doesn't mind having him around. Then when he tries to make his move, all of a sudden she'll shrug him off like last years fashion. Brent did that all the time to me, it annoyed the crap out of me. I was like how the hell can you be so blind by seeing that they're trying to flirt with you and be more than just friends. Later he admitted he did it for selfish reasons but never wanted anything else. He's since grown out of it.

She knows. She loves the attention he gives her. She loves the attention you give her if you get jealous. Simplest solution if you're looking for one? Just don't even mention it. Ie. when she said he sends her more smses a day than you, just shrug it off and don't give her the time of day. Hell - spend more time with your friends and make as if you don't care that she's wasting her time on some other guy for a bit of attention.

My girlfriend does that all the time. She even tells me she knows they like her. She likes it. She loves having people like her. Not one of her best personality traits. I've learned to live with it, but every now and then I need to help her 'shrug off' the guys she has chasing after her. The price of dating a good looking girl I suppose. :?

Is it common to grow out of that stage though? Cause it'd make my life easier if it did, lol.
