"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

Well, I have returned once more. Sort of good news actually.

So, I've become to take an interest into another female. And by doing that, I now find my ex unattractive (swoot). Okay, so this girl after we had been talking for awhile I had found out that she was once a gamer (I'm as shocked as you guys). She played games like WoW, CS:S and Diablo II (honestly, how awesome?). And she plays stuff on the xbox. (I'm like :o)

Anyway, she finds me pretty funny (With my aussie accent, and my ways to adopt physical movements.) And she is also looking forward to Diablo III coming out, (IP battle anyone, hey-hey)

Also to my suprise she is also going to the same 6th form as me. Well, this will be interesting to see how it plays out

Drow, If your girlfriend is taking advice from the worm of friend you have, maybe you may have to consider ending it? Although, it may be not a good option, it will save you a lot of grief later, and you can easily push the blame off to the worm of your friend.

for now I'm just gonna cut off all contact with the kid. and I'm going to talk to her on monday.

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

well. last night my girlfriend called me, she doesn't seem to be as mad as she was yesterday, and I don't understand why the hell she was mad in the first place.

and last night she called to say goodnight, and to try and get angry at me because of some [cabbage] my friend matt made up. he told her I was being "argumentative" because he was [bleep] and whining about things, and I told him to shutup. and corrected the way he spelled something. and he's like quit being such a [bleep], and said I was trying to start an argument, and I said this is gonna turn into an argument so why dont we both just shut the [bleep] up right now, and then he blocked me. and made some [cabbage] up about how I pissed off my best friend, when I didn't. and whenever me and her get into fights, she always ends up listening to the [cabbage] he says, and calls me or talks to me just to get angry at me, to try and make it seem like everything is all my fault. and it also seems like she called me just to make me feel like [cabbage], and that's what she accomplished doing.

I'm kinda angry right now, and kinda sad. and I really really don't like her at the moment. I still love her, but I don't like what she's doing. I'm really really angry at her right now.

I think her last boyfriend or one of past boyfriends treated her poorly or cheated on her. If not a member of the family has deeply hurt her in the past. As a result, she tries her hardest to find something wrong with you, to prevent being hurt again, it's a defense mechanism. It's very destructive and ruins relationships. It starts with something small like listening to second-hand information and progresses to checking phones, stealing passwords, checking emails, who's been on their facebook, messaging other girls who talk to you and telling them to piss off. It's not good.

If she can't believe you over this guy then why is she with you? Don't let her make you feel this way, turn it around but be mature about it. "Sorry but if you put what this guy says before what I say, I really don't think we're going to work out" It's also none of her business to get involved. It's a fight between you and him, not a fight between him, you and her.

Time for her to get off her high horse and act her age.

I'll take the plunge and assume you attempted what we advised you.

Assuming you have made the effort, then I'm going to be blunt. Its not working out.

This relationship is like a train wreck. If she's making you feel like that often, then I'm telling you that consider ending it. Love is a mysterious thing, at times, we wish it wasn't there, at times we want it, but are unable to be with the person that makes you happy. She seems to have more respect for your friend Matt aswell, otherwise she'd have listened to your side, and if she really cared, she would have accept that friends argue now and then, that its not worth her getting involved unless it turns violent.

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but she isn't a very good person. Goddess is right, this is very destructive behavour, not the good foundation for a relationship.

Honestly, from the first time you posted, I had suspected that things weren't going to improve on you. Though perhaps then I was too rash on my advice to just end it. I did take it back and make some other suggestions if you remember.

However, if you have tried to improve the relationship. Now is the time to kill the relationship, it isn't working.

I really don't know what I'm going to do right now, I think I might tell her I need a break, and that we both need to think about things.

and @goddess, she hasn't had any boyfriends, or been in a relationship before this one, so that could be a large factor, and she's had some issues with her father, especially on incident that made it so she didn't talk to him for 7 months, and he referred to her as skank the whole time.

I also can tend to be a bit of a jerk at times, if I wasn't clear enough on that earlier.

I think we'd both benefit from taking a break, and thinking things over.

Like you said, that could be a large factor. She's new to relationships and what comes with it is her immaturity in relationships. Relationships will always be flawed, people learn and grow together (through the communication issues, the jealousy issues, putting partners before friendships) it's one huge learning curve. It's natural to go through many problems and it's silly to give up so easily but if she simply isn't learning and showing the willingness to come up to your level then I agree it's time for a break. There's no use putting up with her behaviour if she's not learning anything from you and moving forward with it, but instead repeating it and ignoring it.

Ok, so here's my dilema.

There's a girl I've liked for a while now, a long, long while. About 2 years, in fact. (At this point most of you are going to be thinking: Just get over her! Well, I can't do that, and I'll explain why in a bit). I have no idea if she likes me or not, but I suspect she might like one of my best friends (not an issue that he's my friend, we've talked about it and he doesn't like her), but I suspect she might like me too. I don't have much evidence to anything really. She asked me to teach her how to do something, while there was about 10 other people around who knew how to do it well (including that friend I mentioned earlier), so I don't know what to think of that. Now, I know the best way to figure out if she likes me or not would be "just try and talk to her". Well, guess what, I can't. I'm 13, in 7th grade (If you want to insult me becuase of my age I really don't care. I can't help the fact that I'm young) and we are in different classes. Yes, this is elementry school, only one teacher for all of the subjects. If you find it funny then go ahead, laugh at me, if not, thanks. Anyways. That eliminates pretty much all of school. Out side of class she's never alone. She does have MSN, but she's never on it. Ontop of that, I have a final problem. She knows I like her, she's known in for a while. How? Basically, one of my 'friends' is a complete and total [wagon] hole, and thought it would be funny to make fun of her for it. She asked me if it was true and me (panicking) managed to stutter/mumble "n-n-n-no", which she responded with an "oh...umm, Ok" and made an excuse to go away, leaving me feeling quite stupid...

Anyways, I suppose I should start at the beginning. It was someone's birthday party, about a year ago , who I was OK friends with. As luck would have it, it was a dance, and she was there. Well, I asked her to dance a few times, the night went on, we had fun. Then a slow song came on. I managed to ask her to dance, and she said yes. Anyways. Basically, that was the most akward minute of my life. We were looking everywhere except at eachother and I didn't think she really wanted to dance, so we kind of just let go of eachother's hands and walked away. Thats when my friend decided to be "funny". She probally already knew after that, but that just made it 10x worse

I really don't know what to do, at all. Hell, I'm not even sure I know what I want to ask. I suppose I want to ask her to the movies or something, but I have a huge fear of regection. This is probally becuase when I finally got the courage to ask her (I was planning on doing it the next day), I dreampt that I did ask her, and she said no, that she would never go out with someone like me, and thinkgs like that. That probally set me back abit. So, suppose I do ask her and she says yes? Then what? I've never been in a relationship before, and im sure i would [bleep] something up. Anyways, here are a few things to ask:

1. How do you start a conversation without just saying "Hi". She knows I like her, so if I could come up with something to ask her and go from there, that would be great.

2. HOW DO YOU READ MINDS? Seriously, how can you tell if they like you.

3. Say 1 and 2 go well. How and where do I ask her to go, and what do I do once we get there.

Remember, I'm only 13, so bare that in mind. I'm really not interested in hearing "Your too young" or "quit trying to act more like an adult, kid" or basically any of that crap i get from anyone else I ask. Thanks for your time in reading this, and any advice you might have.

[/hide]

1. Find interests that you both like passionately, it's easier to have conversations when you've found something that you both like (e.g if you both liked tennis to death you could say, "Did you see that test on Sunday?!?! WAS SO EPIC!!!!!!!" except not as stupid)

2. You can't read minds and everybody is different in some way, I'd like to tell you how to tell if someone likes you but I'd probably give false/bad advice.

Dunno about #3... sorry.

Just walk up and say "Hey, what's up?" Have a normal conversation whilst walking with her. When you get her alone, and if it feels right, tell her how you feel. Ask if she has any feelings for you. If she does, ask her to go somewhere with you (movies, etc.) Best of luck man.

Thats a problem, though. Our interests aren't really the same.

Shes an amazing runner, I can barely run 3k.

I love paintball, she could care less about it.

...The list goes on and on.

I'm pretty sure she skiis though, as do I. But the seasons over, so it's kind of hard to "bring up".

Thanks, though. At least I can try and bring up skiing now, you never know :)

Ah, yes, that would be weird. Hrm.. what about bringing up an interesing and controversial topic (marijuana :D) like bacon pops? The lollipops made out of bacon.. mmm...

2) How to read minds, I'm glad you asked :P Well, if she tries to sorts out her appearance (e.g. pushes her hair around, out of her face or just checks if its in the right place) she may be showing some interest and wants to try to look her best/appealing. Also, she may try to make some physical contact (e.g. Touching your arm, then withdrawing it after contact.) There may also be the mimicry, where they copy you.

There is nothing to fear about rejection... And you are only 13 (I didn't have a girlfriend/go on a date till I was 16.) So, ask her out, just walk up to her saying, "can we talk"... And well ask her. (you could do it my way, and say "do you want to go out with me sometime *turn 20# to the right and sort of point over shoulder*" That always gets them (but don't say that, it my line). But yeah, rejection doesn't hurt, you may become the laughing stock of the year group for maybe a day?

I have a fear of commitment however, I know that I will get overly fond/clingy of a female and I sort of do not tend to actually pursue a relation because of it :|

1. Find interests that you both like passionately, it's easier to have conversations when you've found something that you both like (e.g if you both liked tennis to death you could say, "Did you see that test on Sunday?!?! WAS SO EPIC!!!!!!!" except not as stupid)

The lollipops made out of bacon.. mmm...

That could either work out very well or terribly.

"Hi. Have you heard of bacon lollipops?"

" :-s :uhh: "

Ask her what she got up to on the weekend then speaking of weekends ask her if she wants to catch up with you and do something this upcoming weekend.

Just because you don't have interests in common isn't any reason not to listen. You can both talk and listen to each others interests, you might learn something from each other. It's important to take interest even if you feel like going to sleep.

You'll always find at least 1 thing in common anyway.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

DOn't be afraid to try each other's interests aswell, you might find something new that you enjoy.

[hide=story]Ok, so here's my dilema.

Ah, I remember 7th grade. Was only a year ago :P

To start a conversation, just walk up to her and say hi *smile* what's up? and just try to act natural. Flirt a bit, but don't go over the top and don't do anything to piss her off. Trust me, bad idea.

When a break in conversation comes up, just ask if she wants to go see a movie or something with you. I guess you should check online to see if there's a good movie out though... Maybe the fast and the furious :P At the movie, just, well, watch the movie. Don't do that stupid yawn-and-put-your-arm-around-her thing. If you're gonna do that, just put your arm around here. Don't yawn, it makes you seem like an idiot. After the movie, you could get something to eat, then drop her off at home. Heck, if you have friends who are going out (or if she does) you could go on a double date to make it seem less awkward.

As for #2...I'm pretty sure no tif'ers are psychic. The best way to tell is if she flirts with you, physical contact, excessive eye contact, or her saying "I like you." Don't spend to much time wondering if she likes you, because then you're gonna be embarrassed and shy-sounding when talking to her.

If she says no, it isn't the end of the world. People will care for about a day, you'll be the talk of the school and have your day of fame, then everyone will forget about it. Rejection is a part of life.

Amaranth_GTO.png

Well I"ll just go on a really long story before getting to the point.

I had back surgery, got placed in another PE class. All are delinquents except for one extremely nice and attractive girl. but this isn't the point.

The point is that she vents to me every day :P and we start talking about relationships. I am close friends with many girls, all platonically although I harbor feelings for one in particular. But for me the hard part is the approach. I am fairly socially active but whenever I have any sort of a chance I crack.

Well and another interesting component. Also have feelings for another girl who I approached earlier and she said it was going to fast. (but like two years ago...) Middle school relationships are pitiful.

What exactly does that mean, and what should I do...

I don't have much (any) experience with relationships but I think that maybe trying something like a mall or a shopping center. Somewhere you can walk around and chat, go and grab some food ect. You can find out a lot about her that way, where she shops and what she looks at.

For example if she goes to the arcade and starts playing Tekken, you know she's into gaming, but if she's looking at expensive clothes you'd see she likes that... cheaper clothes then maybe she doesn't have/get much money ect.

Movies would be good, but cliche and maybe a bit forward. You know what people do on the back seat at the cinema :o

Story of my life too, my friend. What way are we supposed to be doing it? =S I mean, I get the basics, but how far into friend territory are we permitted to go until we're ambushed, so to speak?

tipitsig.png

The way of the Man is to try and avoid the friend zone entirely. Try a leather jacket or motorcycle. No matter how nice you are, with those two items, you have a 75% drop in friend zonings.

But, really, it's kinda hard to explain. You guys are just too nice. But we're all young, and it doesn't matter so much. But you should take a lesson from T.I. or someone.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

The Friend Zone is a lovely place to be, ain't it?

I'm about 99% sure I'm in it for the second time in my life, this time with the girl I mentioned in a post quite a few pages back that nobody really paid attention to. I really like her, too. (Isn't that always the case? I guess, but this was different than a simple crush.) Anyway, I'm pretty sure she never even knew/knows I liked her.

I guess I'm almost okay with that, and I will still be a great friend to her because I know she trusts me. It's just a little hard to move on.

This may make me appear much more superficial than I am, but there is another girl that looks promising at the moment. I knew her as a friend through a student organization, but didn't really get to know her all that well. A couple weeks ago I was thinking to myself, hmm I would kind of like to get to know her better, she seems like a great person. Well, through a series of coincidences, the Monday after I was thinking that, we ended up getting together for tea and talking for like 2 hours. Then Thursday, she comes wandering up to my dorm to come chat for a bit, so we do. Then Friday we went to an event with a group of people and ended up having tea together only to end up talking for another 5 hours. Then we did another thing Saturday, and that (it was last week)ended up being one of the best weeks in a long time. This week is going well too. And just now as I was typing this, she came to my room again, this time bringing tea to me, as she knew I was working on writing a paper for tomorrow. Do you get the feeling she likes me? Because I certainly do. I should mention she is generally a very affectionate person, so she might just do this for all her friends, but that's probably not very likely, is it?

And I have to say, this relationship is going to happen naturally, if it all. I still have feelings for the other girl, but I'm trying to get over them. And the second girl is so easy to love, I almost wish I did. I almost do, but I think my other feelings are holding me back.

Flyingjj.png

Just as a suggestion to you flyingjj, I would highly suggest you try hard to get over that other girl, before telling this new girl that you like her, as this could cause some major problems...

Yay for the friend zone!

The problem with me is that I seem to push aside every opportunity for anything more than friendship.
