Plus its not like in your job you're going to use a pen or paper. Teaching how to use a complex calculator is something American schools should start teaching, as well as general technology for the future workforce.

No, no no and no. You're in school to learn and to think for yourself, not to be a computer. The only reason someone should need to use a calculator is if they're multiplying a five digit number with itself five times over, and they never ask those questions in school anyways.

If you don't know why 9 x 9 is 81 because you're used to the answer 'because the calculator says it is so it must be so' then you're pretty much useless to society. You might not do everything on pen and paper at 'work' but you won't get the job in the first place if you don't know the 'why's.

Ok, let's be realistic here. Just because you don't know why 9x9 is 81 does not make you useless to society. Where did you get that garbage claim from?

I started working on a basic web design for my developing portfolio.

I wish I wasn't on my phone, I would totally post the guy holding a newspaper looking at you funny picture right now.

Society uses technology not only for entertainment, but for business, science, and everything else. High school has not taught me one bit of technology, which is a damn shame. Education shouldn't be falling behind simply because of old geezers sticking with tradition and a holier than thou attidude. I don't see how applying technology for schools decrease your ability to learn or think for yourself. Were not at a point that the computee does everything for you, you still have to input your own data and evaluate the solution presented to you. That knowledge is what you get taught in school. The knowledge how to input and work a computer is not.

Maths is a hell of a lot better than English, that's for sure. Who gives a crap about Shakespeare? He wrote some shizz, was apparently good (Yeah, apparently, I don't think it's that good) and died. Poetry? It sucks. It's boring, doesn't do anything for me. Speeches? Yeah, I don't think I'll be needing public speaking any time soon, if so, I'll do fine. Essays are also pointless. Plus it ruins decent books and movies. Yeah, Sixth Sense was cool, and now it's not, can we not watch it for a third time?

Though Maths on the other hand, I enjoy it, I liek equations and getting them done, plus I like my Physics and Chemistry, both need Maths in great detail.

[/Opinion]

I'm the complete opposite. I agree on Shakespeare being trite though.

A lot of that media studies BS you have to do for English now is irritating. I want to be able to write stuff and analyse words; not watch a boring film twice and then write a 2,000 word essay on it. I find mathematics rather difficult and I would always choose a more open-ended subject over sitting and grinding formulae for hours on end.

Just spent 30 minutes trying to figure out why the [bleep] I couldn't burn music onto this CD. Turns out you have to erase a brand new blank CD-RW before you can burn to it. There's nothing on it, that's ridiculous.

Yeah, CDs aren't like flash drives. Really confusing for first-timers. Luckily I think windows now has easier, automatic options to erase and burn CDs.

The sad thing is that it's something I've done probably 20 times before, I don't remember having to erase the blank. Granted I may have never used a new one any of those times. Not that it matters, my car cd-player wouldn't take it. I'm trying to re-burn it after converting my .MP3's to .WAV's and at a slower write speed, but from what I've read it won't take CD-RW's, only some CD-R's. So I might have to go out and buy some in the near future, simply because I'm not going to listen to the radio. If I can't get it to work I'm going to bring my laptop and play music from that

Edit: My CD-RW did fail. I'm going to see if I can find a blank CD-R somewhere in my house. If not I'm going to need to stop by staples or something.

Today after reading about longboards on this forum for the first time in my life I saw my first longboard in real life, it was carried in by a student.

My face went from  > > :ohnoes:

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

They're awesome. No need to be scared! Not all skateboarders are 'punks' and mean, those are the people who do it just to 'look cool'. I do do it for the image to a certain extent but I don't go around badmouthing people or skate on a crowded sidewalk.

It works. My dad does it. Even watched movies on it.

It's not the people associated, it's that everytime I hear of something just once, I will always ALWAYS bump into it within the week.

My real fear of longboards is that I won't know how to stop when I get going fast down a hill.

Lean far to your right, until you fall off the longboard.

Stopping safely, on the other hand...

Tuck and dive, and pray you dont hit a car or break something.

When I used to skate I just tilted my right foot off the edge of the board so it lightly touched the ground, and gradually pushed harder on the pavement until I stopped.

I was mainly joking. But yeah, thats how I would think you would stop, from watching and listening to my friends, on a steep incline.

Today was my 16th birthday ^_^ I got $100 (total pocketed now: ~$450) and a shirt and some candy and some cereal lol. And my permit and stuff. And my stickler dad even took us out to dinner. Also, I think my mom is gonna let up on the "no M games rule." It was pretty nice.

That's just [bleep]gy.

He said to a certain extent. Everyone does something like that. Whether it be wearing certain clothes, or acting certain way, we all do something for our image's sake.
