Zeno
[hide]http://www.npr.org/2008/03/28/89164759/a-victim-treats-his-mugger-right Good people still exist. I consider myself one of them. Here's my two short stories from today. Woke up to a phone call from Kendra (Who's real name is Kym, she just prefers Kendra [for whatever reason], but I'll call her Kym from now on) asking what I'm doing today. I said nothing and she said we should go to the city with our friends and I agreed. So we all get together at my friend Chazz's ex-girlfriend Alyssa's house (who is Kym's best friend) and sort everything out. We leave around 12:00 PM and head to a McDonald's to grab a quick bite before we head to the BART station. Everyone else had already ordered their food and was sitting down eating while I was in line still. A little girl in ragged clothes walked in and got in line behind me; she appeared to be entirely alone. I heard her jingling some change and it turned out to be .59 cents. I ordered my coffee and fries and stepped out of the way so she could order. I waited next to the cash register to see what the little girl was doing and she looked at me and smiled, seeming happy. She asked the older lady working the register for one of the .50 cent cookies that they sell. It turns out it's .66 cents after tax. She was heartbroken. I asked her if that's all the money she had, and she said yes, that she hadn't eaten in three days and was trying to get enough money to eat. I asked if she had any parents and she said she didn't know where they were. I grabbed her hand and took her back to the register (I had taken her aside to talk) and ordered a Happy Meal with the generic girl toy they offered, as well as a small Oreo McFlurry and gave it to her. She seemed confused, as if nobody had ever done anything like this for her. I then gave her a $50 bill and told the manager of the McDonald's to call Child Protective Services and find her parents, and buy her some new clothes with that $50. He did just that. Before we left the little girl (who's name is Kaylee) came up to me right at the door and gave me the toy she had gotten from the meal and gave me hug and a tearful thank you. I said don't worry about it, enjoy your new clothes sweetie, and left. Fast-forward to about 2:30 PM -- We're in the city. I've got some loose change hanging out in my pocket and there are plenty of homeless people in the city, so I decided to give it to someone. I grabbed a Grande Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks and my friends and I headed into the main shopping area to enjoy the day and do some Christmas shopping. About fifteen minutes into our walking around, I spot a homeless man sitting on the steps with his dog, apparently asleep. Target acquired. I walk over after telling my friends to go ahead without me for a minute. I sit down next to him and gently tap him on the shoulder; not wanting to startle him. He wakes up and his dog slowly walks over to me and licks my hand. I ask him his name; it's Tom, he says, and this is Kinder, pointing at his dog. I introduce myself and grab his small empty soup can next to him and drop some change into it. God Bless, he says; and smiles weakly. We both get up and as I'm getting up I subtly pull a $100 bill from my jacket pocket and shake his hand, slipping it into his. Before he realizes what happened I pet the dog, bid farewell and start walking away. I turn my head around to see him crying and holding his dog. I tear up and sit down in a semi-secluded area of a cafe to take in what I had just done for two complete strangers not three hours apart. I never even told my friends. Sometimes I wonder if people notice things like that. Then I remember 95% of society is filled with people who only care about themselves, and that thought is promptly shoved out of my head. Good night, TIF.[/hide] that's one of the most benevolent things I've read or heard of. You, sir, are an extraordinary individual. Tim
So, Im just going to break open as it's pressuring me for weeks on end and driving me insane. A handful already know but im Bisexual, as of a week ago I've been dating a guy. I finally broke my 3 year Single streak with someone who I actually sparked with as a person, not a gender. Here's my problem: I feel bad deep down and afraid that because of who I am, I feel like I cant be accepted as a normal person in society anymore and its making me feel very anxious with my life, I keep questioning myself, I get upset when people talk about their relationships. What am I supposed to reply to? "Me and my boyfriend had hot steamy sex?" It's really difficult and I dont know how the hell I'm supposed to tell my friends, ESPECIALLY my family who have always judged me as a failure since I was a kid, even now my own mother feels like im a failure because im not following a "rewarding, well paying career to set you for life, then get married to a nice woman" tl;dr - Im Bi, dating a guy and scared of society because of it. :( Popoto.~<

Don't worry about what other's think, it's your life and your lead. Haters gonna hate, but [bleep] them. in response to other 'thread of discussion' I carry wads of cash on me because I don't have a credit/debit card. I go through about $120 a week, so I always have around $150 on me. I don't get mugged cause I'm lucky and awesome. Plus I go to school in the 3rd worst city in America [ghetto central] so I've learned to look like someone not to screw with. Switchblades help. Not whoever makes everyone else happy. You matter more. I know the way my own parents view my life is that there are certain things they want for me, but at the end of the day they are proud of me and they love me no matter what (barring I become a murderer or rapist, which might dampen things a bit). I think if your parents express frustration with the choices you make, its only because they want what is best for you, as they see things, and they are frustrated at you making what are to them, non optimal choices. In other words, they are frustrated/whatever because they care. Or maybe I am totally off the mark, and your parents are totally different from mine. I don't really know. But it might be something to think about. Good luck with the telling people and all, whenever you decide to do that (assuming you do). I can't imagine that's an easy position to be in. doomy
Damnit Tim, you've found someone to make you happy and you're still not even happy! But seriously, I think you'd be suprised at the reactions. Friends at least are happy if you're happy. I'm obviously not sure about your family but to be honest they are your family, it might shock them though. Today, I played cricket, went home and have done nothing of notability since. Good day :D My dad bought me some cricket shoes for my birthday which is awesome (bithday is Tuesday). Gonna spend all day watching the test match tomorrow. I do wish I had time to hang out with my friends though :( But christmas break from work is from the 21st to the 9th so that's a good time :DAlso the stress relief of knowing I didn't [bleep] up my exams and will pass into next year has made the last 2 days amazing. I AM Happy, im just nervous about how people are going to react. You'll have some people who will be shocked, some who will be accepting, some who will disapprove. It's the nature of the beast really. I think there is more pressure in the build up to coming out then once it's finally out there in the open. I can't tell you one person who I know to be gay that has come out regretting their decision.

There's literally no escaping it, which is why the only thing you can do to please society is to please yourself (as long as you're not causing any harm and you're not). Shiny
only in america can you see such decadence and desperation side by side what's that supposed to mean? <_< I smell a steriotype. Its a legitimate statement. Among western countries, the wealth divide in America is one of the largest.
i_love_burritos
more than legitimate, it's true can see just poor, broken people rifling around in the trash looking for glass bottles and cans to sell to get some extra cash while 10 meters away there's 17 cars (most of them large sized) lined up at the in-n-out burger waiting for the drive through, engines running - whilst there are only 4 people IN THE [bleep]ING STORE. turn the engine off, step outside of the car, WALK in (YES, USE YOUR LEGS, MOVE THEM) , and order at the counter you [cherry cokes], it'll save you the time I could not make this shit up if I tried Edited December 4, 2011 by stevepole censor evasion
Crocefisso
only in america can you see such decadence and desperation side by sideSo very true. Only Americans cake 5 year olds in make up and present them as pseudo-objects of desire. Kirschen
Was able to drive into town for the first time in my driving practice yesterday (forgot to post). To be honest, for someone who isn't good at paying attention sometimes, it's kinda eerie having to focus on multiple things before I can do what I want to avoid any mishaps. Unsure if it's the people in numbers or their habits.

Zierro
Africans pierce their babies' ears and Middle Eastern countries force their woman to cover their faces.
