i think it should go back up because for ppl who dont have bunyips guthans is awsome i can go anywhere and hit a 27 and have full hp and plus it is still used for gwd as a tanks armour

LOL... you guys seem to believe you can't use Guthan's along with a healing familiar.

With my unicorn I hardly use guthans at all now. The only reason I still have it is because I use a spirit terrorbird for saradomin godwars instead of the unicorn so I need healing.

 

 

 

I think guthans is dropping not necessarily because summoning made it obsolete (although that does play a part). When barrows was released, people thought guthans was revolutionary - the ability to train without needing food! However, when summoning came out people realized they could do tasks with just a bunyip and food, and more people came to realize the flaw of guthans - it slows you down considerably. If you can fit all the food for a slayer task in your inventory, there's no reason not to opt for food instead of guthans, because you will be able to use your whip for the whole task.

Nowadays, most people use bunyips and unicorn stallions, so guthans is not needed. But is very necessary for people without 68 summoning, so I do think it is undervalued.

Yeah that kind of would be overkill. Once it gets low enough I think demand will set the price for a long time. It will probably soon stabilize after it gets so low, and shoots up. Man I can remember when me and my friend would joke about noobs walking around with Guthans and it won't be long and it will happen :lol:

I remember when i was just starting out really, all i wanted ever was a set of guthan's. I killed tons of blue drags and sold the hides for weeks for a set i didn't know what to do with. I finally got it around 8m so it does make me a little sad to see it so low. I completely understand why, just a little sad.

to be honest the unicorn is a very close competitor and substitute for guthans even at GWD or DK...i've seen people using it at both places without using guthans and faring the same if not better than those who use guthan...

 

 

 

the thing about using guthan is the randomness that comes with it and inability to heal with fighting rex cause u can't move about unless u are lucky to have a spinny close to you...a unicorn is definitely more reliable when it comes to healing and you can do it while wielding your GS and continue attacking whichever boss monster you are attacking at the same time...

 

 

 

of course i know that it takes much more than 7M to get 88 summoning but summoning brings with it a host of other uses such as the pack yak, abyssal titan and stuff like...

Many many more people now seem to realize how great a skill slayer is and especially in terms of slaying for their charms to use in leveling up the usually pretty pricey skill that summoning is otherwise, for example if you burst/barrage rock lobsters.

 

 

 

The saying time is money always applies and is always brought up when people refer to all sorts of topics such as these.

 

 

 

The fact that your able to do your tasks at a lets just say (20%) faster speed by being able to use a whip + dfs/def at the same time just is amazing. Not to mention that now with some of the newer armors and items like dragon fire shields and the newer boosted slayer helmets defence the defence bonus that you have in your actual slaying gear can easily surpass that of what you have with your guthans set out.

 

 

 

Also on to what david mentioned, a pony can easily surpass guthans while at godwards and dag kings. If anything the better argument is which is better, guthans or bunyip, as pony easily can surpass guthans, there is hardly much of a contest there.

 

A unicorn is a whopping 21 hitpoints a minute regenerated with the restore rate of famliars special energy points. Mind you your staying in your best defence gear / shield still equipped, and are able to engage in the form of combat that you are using the whole time without having to switch out to meleeing whatever while you use a pony, unlike you would with guthans.

 

 

 

EDIT: forgot my main point, lol. But yes, guthans is dropping like one can expect it to do so for a bit till it settles at its new price, however it will still remain the most expensive barrows set, which quite frankly, isnt saying all that much about barrows as a whole at their current prices. Their is still some use for the set, but it is highly limited, and quite frankly not worth it in the long run which is why we are seeing the continuing decline in its price now that many more people are achieving 68 and 88 summoning in the just shy of 7 months that the skill has been out for.

There isn't that big of a difference between the whip and guthan's spear if you don't have black mask w/ slayer, a DFS or a godsword. For someone with uber stoffs, guthans is a huge drop in efficiency, but for normal people it's a decent alternative that provides freedom of mind for 15 hours.

In terms of price the guthans set is now entering into a different market that more people can afford. Therefore the set will create more demand from that market and the price wont go too low at all. i think the price will float up and down untill that market increases summoning and uses familiars. That will be a long way away so I think it wont be going down again anytime soon. especially as this new market of buyers gradually find out the new price.

 

 

 

As said before though. Doing tasks with food i find way better, even though the price does now temp me. I still will not be purchaseing this gear unless the price goes down to something like a dharoks set, like it should be.

if anything overvalued. look at the other sets. they all have great uses as well. veracs has always been my favorite set just because of its cool gladiator look, but its power shouldnt be underestimated. before the trade updates it was considered cheap to duel someone with veracs because you would just eat a person up. and remember the first "high lev" quest contact that people were complainin was soo hard? yeah tore that bug to pieces with veracs and like 4 sharks. so guthans is just finally moving to where it should be.
