With the PvP update announced my vision of the future of Runescape changed greatly. I've always liked to theorize about the direction Runescape is headed and for the first time in quite a while I think the future is incredibly bright. Now people who protested the now-infamous wilderness removal have had their attitudes changed by the wonderful news - so now the community is as a whole happy with the future of the game... you might say Runescape is currently the picture of health as far as its future and fan-base are concerned. Lots of threads have popped up on this topic showcasing a variety of views on the effect of this update, so I figured I'd have some fun and put my ideas to paper (or screen...).

Now I think the PvP updates will cause RS to undergo the most radical changes it has ever experienced as it comes out of the "dark ages" and into the light:

-The clan chats will have a use as clans will be able to gain a territory and defend it.

-Bounties will be able to be placed on players who anger certain other players (not sure how they'd be paid, but I'm sure someone would figure it out).

-The old wilderness area will become even more deserted.

-Item prices will rise to pre-removal days! (I remember when lower level armor was expensive - 200k for a rune set was a hell of a lot in my f2p career).

-Rares will become less desirable as it will be less safe to wear them around.

-RS will have a higher player retention rate. People are unpredictable, pking will never get too routine.

-Godwars items will become more expensive as it will become even riskier to obtain them due to the threat of someone pking you before you can bank. (This'n is based on an assumption that the more money they have on them in cash or items, the more money the pker gets).

I also think that PK worlds will rapidly multiply in number - possibly even becoming more numerous than non-PK worlds.

And a closing thought, I think the player population will become more mature as I think PKing will evolve to a state that requires a good mind for strategy and generally more higher-level thinking than ever before. Not to mention the word "noob" will be thrown around a lot less casually considering it may become dangerous to do so.

So here's to Jagex for making what looks like the best decision ever! And here's to the Runescape Rennaissance!

TL;DR version: OMG!!!!!111 Wickedawesomenesspkingisbacklolololol! (Seriously just read it, I do think you won't find it to be wasting your time any more than RS itself does...)
OH S***! He/she/it is back!

Haha I like that, I'm too tired to read the whole topic so I skimmed through it...

TL;DR LOL!

No seriously, I don't see the community becoming more mature, maybe even less mature.

I don't think rares will go down. It's not like people are going to wear their rares in a pvp world. Doing so would be pretty idiotic. :ohnoes:

Nice topic but i dont get it. Only SOME word are going to be PvP, so all your theories are kinda wrong.

Hopefully, you’re already aware of the imminent Clan Wars release (see the September Behind the Scenes in a couple of weeks for more information), but there are also plans afoot for the most exciting and "old school" PvP update we have ever considered – unique PvP worlds.

Really. It's not like all the worlds are going to become PvP killing zones. But at least those of you who want that stuff will be on your own servers and those of us who don't will be on ours.

-Rares will become less desirable as it will be less safe to wear them around.

Yes, of course, those of us not on PvP worlds will tremble in fear, moan, gnash our teeth and worry about wearing our rares.

-Godwars items will become more expensive as it will become even riskier to obtain them due to the threat of someone pking you before you can bank. (This'n is based on an assumption that the more money they have on them in cash or items, the more money the pker gets).

Yes, of course, people will only do GWD on PvP worlds - so they can risk being turned on by their teams.

You might be right about prices recovering to former levels; at least for consumables like food and potions. It'll be great - those of us who produce can dump our wares in the GE, make money off of you and not even soil our virtual feet on your bloodlust worlds. I look forward to that.

Seeing as PKing worlds are optional, anyone who goes there will be doing so by choice, similar to entering the wilderness in the past. PKing will be pretty much the same minus how the spoils are handled.

So, it will probably be like it was then, and as far as I know, 'nerd', 'noob', and 'omg safer' weren't uncommon phrases.

"-The clan chats will have a use as clans will be able to gain a territory and defend it."

I think you meant to say clan chats will now have their original purpose fulfilled. Jagex really wanted them to be used primaraly for communication within a clan, but clans already had MIRC and such. With the (hopefully) intense PvP worlds clans will actually be forced to use runescape's clan chats. A few seconds away from the screen to check out MIRC could mean a quick death.

"-Bounties will be able to be placed on players who anger certain other players (not sure how they'd be paid, but I'm sure someone would figure it out)."

Extremely unsucessful in the old wilderness and will probably be unsucessful here. Not only will it be very difficult to actually track a player down to his exact location, the player with the bounty on him could probably just hop worlds at any time.

"-Item prices will rise to pre-removal days! (I remember when lower level armor was expensive - 200k for a rune set was a hell of a lot in my f2p career)."

I'll cry tears of joy when that happens. I've never been excited so much about an update- this will probably go down as one of the best updates in the history of runescape. I think it will truly change runescape both for skillers and pkers. Pkers will have their wilderness back and skillers will be the ones to feed them food, pots, weapons, and other equipment.

"-Item prices will rise to pre-removal days! (I remember when lower level armor was expensive - 200k for a rune set was a hell of a lot in my f2p career)."

Why the hell would anyone wear around a phat in a PvP everywhere world anyway? XD

"-RS will have a higher player retention rate. People are unpredictable, pking will never get too routine."

I just love the total freedom of the whole update. The fact that people can ambush unsuspecting players, coordinate large attacks with clan chats, or just defend varrock with their life is awesome. And best of all, players are totally unpredictable as you said.

I expect that the new PvP update is going to bring back a lot of players, but unfortunately, a lot of the less immature, younger players. Like monkeybeast0 said, there is going to be more mindless arguments over nothing.

its going to be worse.

I just did

OT: I dont think rares or GWD item rares will change much but i do think this will give the econimy a much needed boost, i think it will make life in a clan much more exciting again and give some veteran plays something more to do,

Does any one else think that if when we die the other play doesnt get our items then we keep them on death?

thats gotta be the dumbest comment ive seen in years, pvp worlds would be a giant castle wars with NO risk NO excitement and NO enjoyment for the pkers who quit, it would satisfy people like you who are already satisfied with the game.

this update is for the people who quit almost a year ago.

If id have said a year ago jagex will remove the wilderness to combay RWT i bet that would have been the dumbest comment you'd ever heard? Lets face it jagex doesnt have a great record at dealing with trying to fix pvp,

The reason i can see you keeping your items on death is that, as your not getting the other other person items you pk but only a random drop, (which by the sound of it will be worth alot less) people will be less willing to use their best items to pk in as risk > reward, so to get people to use decent items keeping your items on death may be required

i doubt this will happen buts its not an impossibility, anyway theres no point over speculating what the new system will be like until its out

And dont tell me how satisified i am with the game or what would satisify me ffs,

they said the random drop would be based on your level and how impressive the kill was so i think it would be worth more or less than what the other person was carrying depending on how well you killed the other person and the person that dies will probably lose items or it would just be like a minigame they want this world to be for the hardcore pkers that had quit before and to bring them back to the game. the only way that it would effect skillers is prices of items back to or close to the way they were b4 the pking was destroyed. \<img src=/' />

Or because you didn't read the article.

High danger with items dropped on death.

But tell me this, why would someone go to GWD in a Pking world? knowing they may get a very exspensive item? Also, what they where e.g: Whip, barrows, dragon boots, why would they be prepared to lose that when they can just go into a safe world? :?

that would be true if all worlds were pvp but only a select few of the hundred+ worlds will be pvp so not too much will change other than more demand for pvp supplies.

I quite like your analysis. Not so sure about these two points however. Unfortunately the e-bully element of pking is a factor that will never disappear from any MMO you'll play today. For those types its not about the "thrill of the kill," nobley besting someone in a duel, or looking for actual "challenges." For the e-bully its about making another person feel that they are worthless in comparison to themselves because they are able to hit a pixelated number higher than that person. Now I'm not saying that the vast majority of pkers are e-bullies but sadly a large margin are. A radical update like this will certainly encourage better strategizing but not necessarily encourage better sportsmanship in my opinion.

Overall though, I agree with all the other points you mentioned ...good thread.

So.. are you complaining or happy because of it? If you don't like it, then simply don't go to PvP worlds -.-

If your looking for the various problems these type of worlds might cause then the simple solution to those problems/victims is to NOT go to those worlds -_-
