Just got the transmission rebuilt - $1200

 

Get the car home and the starter dies, another $400

 

 

 

All in a week.

I love my Jeep. It has never had any major problems in the 4 years I've owned it or in the 15 years it's been around. Pre-1994 Jeep Cherokees will NEVER break down on you. Just drive them nice and they'll run for ages.

Pre-1995 Landrovers can be mended with a spanner and a piece of string. And as long as the part fits it will normally run smooth. I know someone who got the fanbelt out of a Vauxhall Astra and used it in his landrover. Ran good until he got a new belt.

I'm not even old enough to start practicing for a license. So I leave car problems to other people.

One's a giant gas-guzzling SUV, one's an itty-bitty 4-cylinder that WILL NOT go up hills, and the last is a 30-year old pile of scrap sitting in the garage until my dad decides it's worth his time to fix the one decent vehicle I have to my name.

I think he has a pretty nice lookin Camaro. I'd be willing to put money into a car like that rather than scrap it.

Yeah, I'm not old enough to practice for a license. All I know are my car choices are, from what I want (least realistic) to what I'll probably end up having: Sailing ship with wheels; Abrams tank; Bradley Assault Vehicle; El Camino; Scooter (with scooter gang); Some sort of Chevy.

Back on-topic...reminds me of my dad's truck. The big 18-wheelers mind you. It broke down constantly in the brakes, engine, and AC systems. The worse part is we needed that thing up and running since it was his job. Sometimes I suspect mechanics purposely screw you over to get more money from you later. #-o

You think Los Angeles is the only place with an inconvenient public transportation system, this is the case in many other areas, that is why you plan ahead to make up for the inconvenience of it. If you wish to pay for a car to have the ability to travel at your convenience more power to you, hell it's not my money anyways, but as for me I'd rather skate down to where I need to go

Half of America's population is rural (I think just under half, actually) or live in towns with less than a million people, including me Public transportation is next to nonexistent. If you'd like to walk the next to twenty miles I'll have to be traveling daily within a few weeks, be my guest.

I know the feeling. The car my parents have for me when I get my liscense is pretty much about to piss itself and die. The transmission and starter have already been replaced, the radio doesn't work right, and the inside is falling apart. The carpet's coming up, upholstery coming off, the stuff around the doors and such is falling apart, and the thing that encases the seatbelts up to a point just came out this morning. :lol:

I love my car, 06' BMW M3. I had a horrible car before I bought this beauty though, oh yes, a 92' Honda Civic. I HATED it, I don't know WHAT the person before me did to this car, but he succesfully succeeded in persuading me to never purchase a Honda again.

Despite being of car learning age still havent got round to it.

 

 

 

Although I do have a 125cc motorbike and did have a 50cc moped (went to 60mph), great thing about them is that they hardly lose any value as you need a bike either of them sizes to start riding.

Ever tried riding one of those when there's 6 inches of snow on the ground? Or wear your business suit to work while riding one in the rain? Get over it, for some people, it's just not anywhere near convenient to not own a car.

pre-96 Volvo estates never seem to break down. My dad had one till 2005 and it was in the autoshop only twice with problems, and that was the 93 model.

If your dad did deliveries for mechanics they would get it all fixed faster, and ofter cheaper (like they do with my dad)

Good memory Deloriagod, its a Z28. I got it freshly repainted this Summer along with a bunch of other work, this just comes on the tail end of all of the repairs.
