Giordano
public transportation, bikes, skateboards, walking.... all beat the money drain that is motor vehicles  Oh shut the hell up. I'll let you know the Los Angeles Metropolitarian Area has a horrible public transit system that is in no way useful to 80% of the people living here. You NEED a car here. hahaha.... I was unaware that you spoke for this "80%" of the population In Los Angeles.... hell I would even love to see where you pulled these statistics from. You think Los Angeles is the only place with an inconvenient public transportation system, this is the case in many other areas, that is why you plan ahead to make up for the inconvenience of it. If you wish to pay for a car to have the ability to travel at your convenience more power to you, hell it's not my money anyways, but as for me I'd rather skate down to where I need to go Well I can assure you it is no small percentage. And the only reason why I mentioned La is cos I live here and it has around 11 million people in the entire metropolitarian area. Naturally LA isn't the only city with a bad transit system, where the hell did you get the idea? Seriously? A moped? Distances in the rural country are 30-50 miles between towns, even more. At a thing going 40 mph it'll get you there in an hour and more. In a car at 70 mph it'll take you less than an hour. And what about folks who have to drive a car for work/to work? Work in a place 15 miles into the mountains and no bus or trains gonna get you there. Drive a your own truck to make deliveries? Motor breakdowns and gas prices aren't going to help. mrpez
what kind of car do you have? i love my car. limited edition 1989 mercedes 300CE with a custom paint job. the cool part is that this car was made in germany so it has many features that didnt appear in america until the late 90s like power windows, an alarm, memory for the seats, etc. i bought it for $4000 and my dad's friend, who is a used car dealer, said it would sell for at least $8000-10,000.

loi86
I had some junker from the 1950's had to replace everything on it, took about 6 months...but it ran awesome. But that must be one nice car, because I know people that have cars that are only worth $800 max. Retired from Runescape September 1, 2008

Heh, I know a lot of people who drive $1000 or less cars. Though I know some people that drive some really nice cars as well. I've currently got an '08 Mitsubishi Eclipse (worth $23,000 when I got it). Internet Marketing For Newbies
thrash-boy
Ford = Fix Or Repair Daily it also stands for: First On Rubbish Dump Im not a ford person. they make good engines but the cars are just junk. can you believe that the old falcon GT's had an extra for window winders (here in Australia anyway). just found that out today. if you didn't pay for the extra feature of window winders you had to use a screw driver to wind your window up and down. if you ask me that's hilarious. Sometimes I suspect mechanics purposely screw you over to get more money from you later. #-o sometimes i just wish people knew what they were doing and maintained there cars properly. if they did that they would probably last a lot longer and the mechanic wouldn't have to fix anything. of course if you don't know anything about cars send it to the mechanic. but you cant expect them to happily and freely fix a problem with someone's car because they were to useless or un-knowledgeable to do something simple like change the oil or give it a grease. my dad does some odd car repairs for people and he gets so frustrated when someone wants something fixed because they couldn't look after there car. i don't blame him, you should see some of the unmaintained junk heaps he's had over. imagine oil as thick as syrup that probably hasn't been changed for 5 years. Imo mopeds can be quite the money drain. My neighbor had one and the motor died within a year. That resulted in him needing to buy a new one. I'm going to look into getting a motorcycle once I move out on my own. Cheaper on gas and the engine shouldn't go to hell in no time. Sbrideau
Well, there's one thing I learned, well, seen on tv, although I don't remember the program and episode, Most of the popular American brands of vehicles are better if you go in pre-1996. After that, it's all junk that will break whithin 4 to 6 years, or not even reaching 200 000Kms. Personally, I love my Toyota Echo, standard since it's much more strong that the automatics ones, it's now at 240 000+Kilometers, with 2 accidents, the first one breaking the front of the car, inculding changing the radiator and a few sensors in the motor (the insurance paid it), and the second one only breaking a light and bending the fender(sp?) (hit a deer on the second one), and it's a 2001 Echo. I still put no money to repair it, although the clutch (still the first one) is starting to wear out. thrash-boy
..., although the clutch (still the first one) is starting to wear out. your clutch is going on a 7 year old car? do you drive an extremely massive amount or leave your foot on the clutch pedal? 7 years for a clutch isn't very good i wouldn't think. maybe it just needs adjusting (if it can be). anyway good to see some people still have balls and drive manuals not these boring things they call auto's

I know a guy who needed a new clutch, got it replaced, and needed a new one only a few years later. Also, I wish I knew how to drive manual :( My dad never bothered to teach me.. mrpez
driving stick is pretty overrated. in cities, with stop-and-go traffic, constantly downshifting is a nuisance. if you dont shift efficiently your gas mileage will go through the roof. most kids where i live want to drive stick because they think they can race like in the Fast and the Furious. Sbrideau
Lol 7 years is the best I have been seeing, all other people that drive manuals around here, they don't go for that long with theirs. Although, I said starting, it's still good for a year or 2 since I don't have trouble shifting yet, only slides a little bit when I accelerate fast.
