Wisp
Who know, if it is related to the election, than how about this. Either whoever gets elected this year does an amazing job, but fails to get reelected in 2012, and someone awful gets elected, and screws the world. Or, someone terrible gets reelected again. Or the Olympics kill everyone. Hegemony-Spain
mmmcannibalism
interestingly if anyone is familiar with revelations whoever wins this election would be about 3.5 years into "ruling" by then also we are overdue for quite a lot of things that arent too good for us the polar shift, yellowstone erupting, severe ice age, We also havent had a major war for a while. Im more worried about the polar shift or whatever causing a nuclear war then actually being wiped out by the shift. All a polar shift would do besides really screw up our technology for a while is make more people end up with skin cancer which isnt exactly a species killer. Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.
The Dark Lord
I actually made up a creation myth involving December 2012. In my creation myth (did it for a project in English) the material universe was created and the Earth was made. Then mankind came into existence through evolution and then they gained a lot of knowledge. Eventually they waged World War III and used nukes and most of the population died. The souls of the dead chose to either go to Heaven or reincarnate as humans, in the New World. The WWIII happened in December 2012 and the world was damaged and plunged into nuclear winter. In January 1, 2013, the New World was begun and the survivors (the Remnant) were given the responsibility to repopulate the Earth and restore mankind. In this new age, there will exist no suffering. Illness, Plagues, War, Hate, Unhappiness cease to exist. Eventually humans would become perfect and godlike and would evolve into spiritual beings and shed their fleshly bodies and become one with the universe. Then the Universe would die and reincarnate and then everything will start over again. I mixed a lot of religious inspiration into it and some science into it. Was interesting. Story was called 2013: Genesis. The story was divided among 4 eras: First Age: Creation of the cosmos and Earth Second Age (part A): Appearance of First Humans Second Age (part B): Human Knowledge and the Last War Third Age: Utopian Society on Earth, New Dawn Fourth Age: The Unification and Destruction of the Universe I have an interesting imagination, huh? Wisp
Well, a severe ice age is impossible to have it happen by 2012. The average temp drop in the last ice age was just 10 degrees, just enough that some snow does not melt during the year, and it builds up over centuries and centuries. thrash-boy
Oh yeah, and about the Mayan calender thing... It ended on 2012, but we don't know if they actually meant anything by that or that they just felt like stopping for no particular reason. They had to have stopped somewhere. I think the PS2 calender stops at like 2100 - another conspiracy theory?? Exactly. We need to figure out by what the Mayans meant when they ended there. Maybe was the end of their 'milenina' so to speak. Or you know, you can fit so many dates on a piece of stone before space runs out. i looked on Google. Apparently a galactic day is 5,125 years long, and that each new galactic day the sun synchronizes with the central galaxy. From this somehow the sun's magnetic field changes which changes the rotation of the earth (or so they say/believe). They believe that when this happens it means a big change for life on earth. They worked out that from the birth of there civilization (3113 BC, which they figured was the start of the current galactic day that changed life on earth and gave birth to there civilization) the next galactic day would start 5,125 days from then, which just happens to be the year 2012. So basically they ended there calender at 2012 because that would be the end of the current galactic day. They didn't just decided they couldn't be stuffed doing it anymore. I got all that info here but if you ask me its all a load of crap, nothing will change at the end of 2012 and the world is not going to end. Returned3
I think there will be a change, but not something that drastic. Some minor event will probably happen during the year and tons of people will blow it out of proportion and make it seem revolutionary. If you ask me though, it just sounds like another Y2K theory. Didn't the Y2K problem occur to a number of machines? Anyways, I don't think that the whole world will be wiped out but I do think that something will happen, my best bet is flooding worldwide. But whatever the thing is, it better occur AFTER Wrestlemania 28. I'll probably just live my life the normal way and not worry until some news brodcast actually tells me something, thats when the whole world would truly be united as one and work together to solve the problem (Or regret that they caused it). 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down! Georgelemmons
:P We had a looong discussion about this in Forsakenmage's chat. Anyway, I looked it up and found several conflicting theories. Here's the basics of them both- the north and south poles reverse every couple of thousand years - anywhere from 10000 to a million. During this shift, the magnetic field's strength would fall to 20%. This is where the controversy comes in. Many people believe that this will expose humans to dangerous cosmic radiation, and that we'll die without protection. However, it's not the magnetic field that protects us the most from radiation, it's our atmosphere. So yes, the radiation will increase some, but not enough to kill anyone. There may be a small increase in mutations, and migrating birds will lose their sense of direction until they can adapt to the new magnetic positions. sephiroth_king
Ya? Wasn't the world supposed to end in 2000 as well? It appears as if it's supposed to end whenever it feels like it. The polar shift? Hmm. Ya, from what I learned the polar shift isn't supposed to happen for a LONG time. If this is the cause, it won't cause the end of the world, but it will cause a global crisis in terms of machinery shutting down, and then we'll have to rebuild machines/electronics that fit with the opposite pole. That won't take two minutes to do, but we'll just have to live without technology I suppose...THAT I can see causing the end, though lol. Lenticular_J
Gamer, you do know the Sun won't just blow up immediately, right? It has to turn into a giant, and all probability that would kill us. And even that would have thousands of years of signs scientists have observed on other stars. While I agree that it's impossible to know, science actually works just about for sure this time. I'm all for it, regardless of weither or not it will happen. Maulmachine
The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11:11 am GMT.The Maya predicted that when this happens the demons of hell will destory the earth.
