lol, imho, is like "thats what she said" and "tbh", they are cliches that get over used by kids who think they are cool but they are most likely like that fat guy off wow episode of southpark tbh.

 

I think TBH has a while to go before it's at the level of lol. I use it seriously quite often.

I tend to say "haha" instead. If I find something really funny, I'll go "HAHAHA".

 

However, I'm not going to get on my pedestal about people who say "lol" at completely irrelevant times. I absolutely hate this whole "grammar nazi" thing that this forum in particular has going.

One or two errors don't bother most people, but bad grammar is going to make anyone a bit vexed if it is spread throughout a post, or a number of posts. So that's why we have:

But really, is saying "lol" on the Internet any different to real life? I mean, in real life, when you're with someone and they crack a joke that just isn't funny, don't you pretend to laugh because you don't want to rude? People always seem to say I have a good sense of humour, but to be perfectly honest, I just want to be polite and get along with them. :?

 

 

 

Isn't that the equivalent of "lol"ing? By that reasoning, we've been "lol"ing for thousands of years before the Internet came along.

 

 

 

It's still annoying though when someone tries talking to you and they reply with it. Like when someone asks how you are, and you say how you feel, then they go "lol"...

Oh, I know that wasn't funny. I just wanted a perfect example of when someone would normally say lol. That's about it, like pretty much everyone on here said, most people use lol when they don't know how to respond, or it isn't very funny/funny at all...

Lol is losing its meaning. Don't ever buy lol stocks.

Personally, I think that Lol, and other abbreviations do not have a place in society. They are just modern day, 'geek' slang, that is just lazy English.

Some show I forget, with that girl from Drake and Josh, has the characters using words like brb and noob. I want to send a thermonuclear missile through my television whenever I hear that. Unfortunatly for me, it's one of my sister's favorites.

Yeah kinda similar here. wtf is "wha tah [bleep]" ..er idk it's kinda weird.. and omg is "oh mgod" and zomg is "zoh mgod". but the others like brb are bee are bee and tea bee ache :P and lol is usually lawl

What ever happened to just typing "haha" or "hehe" to show that you find something amusing. Extend with a few extra "ha"s depending on how funny you perceive it.

 

 

 

Really just what I do if I actually find something funny. "Ahaha" is for a mocking laugh, "Haha" for a sincere laugh "Hehe" for an almost laugh.

And who could forget good ol' *chuckle*? Ok, I admit I did, but that's still preferable to lol for the most part.
