September 23, 200817 yr 1.) Don't remember Mlbfan's nu-metal thread? Hint: "Internet psychologists are the best!" 2.) Zierro Oh that trainwreck (the post, not you. Heh). And no I'm still clinging onto my leap-of-faith-esque belief that people like the music they listen to because they like how it sounds and the way it makes them feel. Call me old-fashioned but that's what I think it boils down to. I never said metal music has more nerds than other music genres though ('sup electronica?), but metal music surely has [cabbage]load of juice to get anal and nerdy about, and therefore they are more prominent. And nerds tend to be very vocal about that [cabbage] whether we like it or not (we don't) - often derailing decent forum threads or real-life conversations to a point where you just want to remove their vocal chords - or in the case of forum threads, their hands. Also I hope you know that I was being sarcastic when I said the part about internet psychologists being the best. :) They're [wagon].
September 23, 200817 yr I can't believe there could be so much discussion about "Metalcore isn't metal. Nobody says it is. Don't say people do." Underøath = metalcore. NOT metal.
September 23, 200817 yr I don't know what it is about metal that draws in some seriously anal people who'll argue genres all night long. Because most metal fans are nerds. You're a nerd.
September 23, 200817 yr If it's not about Vikings, death, conquest and/or power, it's not metal. There, I said it. Varrock Library: Shattered Sky | Silent Thunder | The Emperor's FinestAstri @ MythWeavers

September 23, 200817 yr How hard can it be? True metal bands usually only have demos out or one obscure album limited to 666 copies. Anything else is false and needs to eject itself from the metal world.LISTEN TO THIS MAN Steam | Soup | Last.fm

September 24, 200817 yr To anyone who feels the need: Flame away. I won't wake up any different tomorrow than I was before I posted this, so it really doesn't matter all that much to me. Honestly, this "true metal" thing is starting to get old. A subgenre isn't "true metal" because a certain group does or doesn't like it? ...No. Music is not classed by how popular it is. If this were the case, it would be nearly impossible to classify any kind of music, as disco, rap, emo, or any other mainstream music would be in the same category along with old chorales and stuff from medieval times. A subgenre isn't "true metal" because it doesn't sound like [insert]? Not necessarily. If this was completely true, not only would Slipknot, Korn, etc. not be metal, but neither would Amon Amarth or Cannibal Corpse, or even ANY of the thrash 4. Think back to Black Sabbath. They would be the only band that can be called "true metal", the way everyone else is talking. They are the first, therefore, purest, form of metal. Any metal bands that came after them had influences by them(or led zeppelin, they would be up there too probably), and the bands coming after THEM had influences in the last generation plus the first, meaning the sound keeps getting slightly father from the original, yet it keeps its roots. And the roots are what really matter. As long as a band has that slight similarity to the original, it is and will always be a form of metal, no matter what anyone thinks of their music, or what their songs are about. [/rant] What I'm saying here is just because something isn't liked, it will always be what it is. It shouldn't be a question of whether something is "true" metal or not, it should be a question of why everyone has something against said form of metal. This is how i believe metal should be looked at, or anything else that's changed over time for that matter. Literature for example, but that's another story (heh). That's if you do look at it like that. My personal views? I couldn't give a crap. I listen to what I listen to because I like the music and it seems to fit me, not because it fits into a certain category, or what the people who listen to what I do are like, or what the bands I listen to do in their spare time. It just so happens to be that the vast majority of the music I listen to falls into Grunge/Heavy metal/Prog, but honestly I wouldn't have been able to categorize most of my favorite bands until recently, when i just started lurking in these forums.
September 24, 200817 yr Hardcore, deathcore and metalcore are just subgenres of the huge and mindboggingly diverse metal genre. Who cares if they sound like what they sound. People listen to music they like, and shouldn't care what some punks moan about in anonymous messageboards. Gone are the days when you could listen to Accept or Iron Maiden and say that was metal, and no buts. Now there are so many genres, classifying a certain genre as "true metal" and guarding the statement with your life is just plain ignorant. Why must we even classify everything! Let the bands just do what they do and let us choose whose music we listen to. End of story. ;)
September 25, 200817 yr who cares? one person who likes horrible music says your horrible music isn't as "true" as his horrible music, so you come cry on the forums between cutting yourself and writing in your diary? September 25, 200817 yr so i guess everyone here is just "butthurt" over not listening to real metal like me?
September 25, 200817 yr Because of the first of the Metal commandments: Thou shallt not call any genre which contains 'core' metal. The same applies to nu-metal. Whatever happened to that rule about drinking more beer than people would think possible beer, playing loud enough to break windows, and destroying hotel rooms? Wouldn't know why it's so serious as to what is metal and what isn't though. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
September 26, 200817 yr I've decided to pretty much just clump everything together into a few categories: Punk, pop, metal, rock, classical, jazz, hip-hop and techno/rave/electronica. Basically, if it's inbetween one of these, it's like punk rock, or pop punk, or classic rock, or metal, or metal-punk. There's no grey areas, if there is enough of an influence present, it gets mentioned. I also think that Jimi Hendrix is the only "true" metal artist, because he was the one supposedly compared to "heavy metal falling form the sky". I also think that classifying music based on lyrics is kind of stupid. I don't mean lyrical style, I mean actual content, like the words and their meaning. Best example is porn metal, or whatever it's called, which is basically just ordinary metal, but with lyrics about porn. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience.

September 27, 200817 yr hardcore is a genra of punk, and I am teen, and I know that. My pure's stats: str:70attc:35def:4range:72mage:70hp:70
September 27, 200817 yr People get frustrated by this because they don't want whatever subgenre of metal they're listening to tainted by the bland, boring, and utterly predictable scourge that is metalcore. I don't blame them. Hardcore, deathcore and metalcore are just subgenres of the huge and mindboggingly diverse metal genre. Sorry, but no. Hardcore's roots are firmly in punk. When every man is torn apartWith nightmares and with dreamsWill no one lay the laurel wreathWhen silence drowns the screams?
