Skinny girls and the guys who love them.

Featured Replies

We are supposed to be a nation of tolerance. If you criticise someone for being gay, for being fat, for being black or being female you will (quite rightly) cop a severe tongue lashing for your lack of empathy.

However apparently it's quite okay to criticise people for being thin.

The phrase 'real women have curves' springs to mind. A lot of people have been saying it in response to Jennifer Love Hewitt's bikini photos. Initially it sounds great, after all real women are allowed to have curves and still be real women. Huzzah! What a great idea! But the problem is it doesn't say real women can have curves. It decrees that real women and curves are inextricably linked. Real women have curves. If you have no curves, sorry, no amount of menstruation, ovulation, lactation or possession of a vagina is going to make up for it and bring you back to Real Woman Status. Too bad.

I have a friend who is model thin and drop dead gorgeous. She is also just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. She never judged anyone by their appearance but sadly rarely got the same consideration in response. Often other women would complain to her about feeling fat and then add a snarky "Not that you'd ever have that problem". Wow. Imagine if someone thin complained about being unable to gain weight (a condition that is more common than you think) and turned to a fat woman and said the same thing. I doubt anyone would see that as acceptable, so why is it acceptable to be a [bleep] to someone just because they're thin?

And if you have a skinny friend who is desperately trying to gain weight, please do not say "I wish I had that problem!" There are millions of weight-loss plans, support groups and advice columns for people trying to lose weight. People are more than happy to support you in your quest for weight loss and offer their own advice and support. There is however a woeful lack of support or advice for people trying to gain weight in a healthy manner. It's not a nice problem to have and there are many medical conditions linked to being underweight, so it would be more appropriate to show a little compassion.

And lastly I want to have a whinge about the topic of guys who prefer skinny girls. More specifically the condemnation of guys who prefer skinny girls. Honestly, it's like society sees it as a huge insult to curvy women everywhere if a guy has a preference for thin women. If a man admits he likes a petite lady he is accused of being brainwashed by the media, of being shallow and of only seeing a woman as an arm ornament. For heaven's sake people, it's just a personal preference! No-one accuses guys of insulting white women if they prefer Latina girls. Or of insulting blondes if they have a preference for redheads. No-one says that liking girls with pretty faces is only because of media manipulation. No-one divides boob-men and leg-men along some kind of imaginary moral divide. And of course no-one suggests that voicing a preference for curvy girls may hurt the feelings of their thinner companions. (Which it may well do but, let's face it, society doesn't care if skinny girls get their feelings hurt.)

You know what, world? It's okay to have personal preferences! If a woman likes skinny guys no-one bats an eyelid. If someone likes brunettes, good on 'em. If you're a bloke (or a chick) and you like women with a bit of meat on their bones, go for it. And if you like thin women, yay you!

Thankfully the world needs all types. Some people are attracted to curvy girls, which is great for us curvy girls because they're the ones we usually end up with. And some people like thin girls, which is great for them because they're just as deserving of love as anyone else.

So next time you look at a skinny girl and think '[bleep]', or tell a guy who likes petite chicks that he is shallow, remember that no-one should be judged just because of their weight. Skinny girls are real women too. They have real feelings. And those feelings get hurt when they're treated in a [bleep]y manner, when their problems are dismissed or when guys are told they shouldn't find them attractive.

I didn't write this, but I completely agree with it. It's from a website called HarlottSauce or something, so props to them.

It is never OK to be a [bleep] to someone unless they start.

Get back here so I can rub your butt.

I'm glad you made this post, some nice points that I've actually thought about too.

There will always be hypocrisy in the world, it's not something we can really change.

snowsigyy7.png

As a female.. I have no problem with skinny women.. it's the damn anarexoric ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dislike people who are extremes.. the ones that are so fat that they're disabled.. and the ones that are so thin that all their ribs are showing.. and they look like living skeletons.

both of these.... are horrible.

however, I'm guessing when you're talking about skinny females.. that you're actually thinking of the girls that are just thin genetically.. or the ones that lose fat by exercise? NOT the ones without their bones sticking out? I sincerely hope so. *holds flame gun threateningly*

Very nicely put, you made me realize how hypocritical some people can be. I always thought of them as just being jealous, but now I see it from a different perspective. Great read :).

(By the way, I'm a tall guy that's very skinny.)

First off, I don't personally feel it's acceptable to judge anyone based on first appearance. Regrettably, first appearances mean a lot and sometimes I think people have trouble just controlling how far that prejudice goes.

I think your target in regards to sexual attraction towards skinny females is slightly misguided though (remember, girls can like girls as well, not just guys ;)). I personally am not attracted in the slightest to the 'perfect image' of a girl. It looks plastic to me, and it tells me nothing about what really matters on the inside. Actually, I lie - it tells me they're emotionally unstable, so have to appeal to popular culture in order to feel accepted.

However, that's true of a good 95% of people. Few people in this world have the confidence to look at themselves and think, "I don't actually care about what others think of me. I like myself for who I am". I'd like to think I'm one of those few - having my own style and being different to everyone else is something that's immensely important to me. But I've seen people around me succumb so easily to what others feel. Friends being worried about their face, their hair colour, if we're being totally frank and mature, about breast sizes too.

The fact is society has an image of the 'perfect person'. Some guys like that image, and that's their business. I'm not going to attack someone simply for liking their own image. We live in a world where that image is constantly bombarded onto us without us even realising. When I go to the supermarket in town, it's like the perfect example of Eugenics. All the till-workers are girls, jet black haired with highlights, around 5"8'. Every day, I look at the papers, and it's there with the Page 3 girls on the front cover.

It's the people who seem to believe that everyone must conform to that image, and if you don't, you're either a social outcast, or you're just weird. Guys who pose on MySpace looking for blonde girls and whatnot, guys who spend their time trying to get their girlfriends to adopt that image just to please them. Those are the people you really need to be aiming this thread at. Fortunately, not many of those people are on Tip.It.

Well, since the stone age, there has always been that universal model of what men or women "should" look like amongst different cultures. And honestly, I see nothing wrong with it. Nothing the crowd may say will change my personal taste when it comes to something like this, so I'm not really bothered by it.

I'm pretty sure you're my new favourite person. We think alike, even if it's not the same issue.

I agree with some of your points though. I like petite women (not just skinny, petite ^_^) but it's just a physical preference. I'm not going to be a jerk and reject someone because they don't meet my guy-standards (so long as they're not an extreme, as mentioned earlier.)

Yayyyyyy...

At last an intelligent thread. I agree with you on everything there. In all seriousness, you got my respect =D>

Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.

That was a really well-written post. :)

I wish I had something else to add, but I don't. Except that I agree with you.

Cool.

Please Goddess, just have little Xavier already so you can reply!

She already missed the abortion thread, now this! Poor silver_wits is doing all the work :(

Even though it's a copypasta, I agree for the most part. I can't really stand anorexic women, but if someone is naturally skinny/exercises, there's nothing wrong with that...

Anyway, looks don't matter too much for me, it's whats inside that counts. [/cliche]

That was clearly stated.

For my personal tastes, I like normal and healthily skinny girls. If they're anorexic, I don't feel attracted to them at all.

j0xPu5R.png

If a girl is skinny I don't mind, but if she is like anorexic and you can see her ribs that's just nauseating. However, it goes both ways. I am a whale free zone.

That was clearly stated.

No, but nice try. Editing the post 2 hours after the fact in response to being called out doesn't cut it.

Anyway, I agree for the most part with the article. There isn't much else to be said, really.

Actually, I must affirm that I am a boob man. That is all.

As a female.. I have no problem with skinny women.. it's the damn anarexoric ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this is where the problem is. I have two close friends who you could swear was anorexic. But they are not. They have been trying for as long as they can remember to put on weight. They are as self conscious about their image as anyone who is overweight. This isn't just about thin woman. It's about woman who are so thin that they look anorexic. So really, you do have a problem with these type of people.

untitled-1.png

Anyway, I agree. I know quite a few girls actually who actually want to gain weight, since they're so skinny. I do admit, I wish those who are overweight or underweight wouldn't complain about it. Sure, you have the problem, but everyone else knows it, you don't have to complain about it. Do something about it.

But this is a bit off-topic. Personally, skinny I don't have a problem with. The ones who turn sideways and disappear are the ones that I avoid.

^Tripsis, I'd like to add that a lot of overweight people are using food as an emotional crutch. Teasing them about their weight will only make them lean on the food more, so to speak.

But it doesn't really matter, I can tell he only said that to get some attention.

Mlbfan, your ugly.

Hey, fat chicks need love too, because:

Warmth in the Winter

Shade in the Summer

And no one is gonna take them away from you.

Ok, oddball joke aside, I personally prefer ones that look good and have a great personality. Looks are not the most important thing on the list.

And cheese, you have just earned yourself a spot in my signature.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

my opionion exactly. i prefer them healthy rather then starved. and being a guy who's skinny and cant gain weight for an unnatural fast tablism, it sucks.

although its not as bad but its simular to woman having a vendetta against guys who arent popular/good look'n. but thats compleatly off topic there.

being a guy who's sensative isnt bad. im sensative but smart enough to know whats an insult and whats an internet .err.... bullying? heck i have girls obsesed with the fact im open about my emotions. pity there taken.

Popoto.~<3

I'm glad you made this post, some nice points that I've actually thought about too.

There will always be hypocrisy in the world, it's not something we can really change.

Took the words right outta my mouth.

Honestly, I love a good looking girl though. I mean, who doesn't? You'd have to be a big time hypocrite to say no.

And I think gaining weight in a healthy manner shouldn't really be a big thing in the US, there are more obese people here than healthy individuals (though you can still be big and be healthy, I've seen it). But if you want to, I recommend drinking milk and eating protein in decent moderation. But don't ever replace water with milk, water is a necessity.

Anyway, everyone has their preferences, but it doesn't always mean they go with them.

Do people honestly have issues with skinny girls? By skinny I don't think you mean anorexic. Skinny is normal and should be what everyone strives for. A society that accepts overweight people, and obesity, just hurts itself. Yes yes yes, "it's not their fault, it's genes". Genes can get you a little bit of pudge, but c'mon, noone cares about that. It's the ridiculously excessive eaters. All you people are being shallow in an attempt of trying to be nice, females (and males) need to quit accepting obesity as a norm. It's disgusting. I hate Mlb as much or more than anyone else here, but his points, however immature, are valid. Skinny is good. Curvy is fine. But all you saying obesity is ok and not their fault are kidding yourselves.

By the way, being fat is hereditary a lot of the time.

Rubbish. (unless by hereditary, you mean people learning bad lifestyle choices off their family members)

I have a problem with people that have no slef control, if this is the reason you are fat you lose my respect, period. I cannot respect someone who does not respect their bodies, it repulses me. People who are only "chubby" does not bother me, they have self-control, but those people, the ones you wouldn't want to be on an elevator with, disgust me.
