Hmm Open Office? Never heard of it, sounds promising.

 

Is it alot like Windows Office? Ima go check it out now.

The site has been reduced to basic text to cope with server demands lol.

 

Also the download rate is tiny, it would take the rest of my life to download.

 

I think I'll wait a bit before I get it.

OO is absolutely great. It does the same as MS Office, but it's totally free. Well, there might be some slight chances, but nothing that affects me in my work.

 

 

 

I'm never paying for MS Office again.

Openoffice is or has to be one of the top 5 opensource programs going around.

 

 

 

Regardless I only found out about the project or program 4 to 6 months ago, so it's been kinda of jungled learning about it.

I'll have to try this new version, and see if it's better than the last time I tried it (which didn't end well).

 

 

 

Probably going to wait like pyro, since I know it will take at least a few days for the download queues to ease up...Especially with Java offering Open Office for all of their downloads, and all the PC magazines recommending OO, there's a lot of people that will be wanting this new version. I'm in no rush, I'll stick with Google Docs and Zoho Writer (the latter I use for school, since it's the only online word processor that isn't blocked) for now.

I've always been fond of OOo, and this release is no exception. I really like what I see with this. I can't notice much of a speed boost yet, but repeated use will soon prove how fast it is.

I've used OOo ever since I got my new PC around Dec. 07 as I could not see the point in paying $100 for the basic MS version, definately will be upgrading to 3.0 as I haven't even upgraded from 2.4.0 yet.

Yeah Open Office is great, I too use it instead of Microsoft office.

Any interface changes in the latest version?

i downloaded open office after i reformatted this computer, cause i had no word processor, the few times i've used it to archive emails and stuff, it's worked good. i'll update eventually.

im download via torrent right now and im getting 155kbs which is about as high as i get anyway on my connection.

 

i didnt try downloading directly from the server but im assuming the torrent will be faster for anyone wanting to download

Nice. I hope they update the ubuntu.com deb archives with it soon, I've been waiting for this. (Strangely enough, they didn't update the Gimp 2.6 debs until... Well, I don't know.)

Never had any problem with the OOo-2. And i never understand why so many have complained on it's speed, I've used MS office 2003 and OOo... Never noticed one to be faster than the other.

 

 

 

When i discovered OOo some year ago or two, i'll never go back to pay for an office suit.

I like OpenOffice.

Looks nicer then before not noticed anything else, but I'm sure I'll find the changes soon.
