Why this rant?

 

 

 

Simply, Ive been seeing waay too many members telling people who even think of giving F2Pers any new items, quests, boss monsters, etc, telling said people to buy membership. What's the problem here? Many, if not most of us F2Pers can *afford* to pay for the membership. However, that doesn't mean we can *buy* it.

 

 

 

Some of us may not see the worth in the additional content, while others (the majority) are simply unable to use Paypal, Credit Cards, PayByCash, Prepaid Cards, Western Union or any other major/minor method of getting membership. If you can have the means to buy it, then you are definitely better off than those who want to but can't.

 

 

 

There has been quite a number of discussions, and of course I see a lot of things that F2Pers should really deserve, like skill capes, a boss monster, and so on. F2Pers still contribute to Jagex's running budget through ad views (you dont need to click on the ads for Jagex to earn cash, just for it to be on the page makes Jagex cash. In fact, these ads are designed this way). F2Pers fuel the economy for death runes and lower foodstuffs like lobsters and swordfish, not just creating demand but supply as well.

 

 

 

I personally think that F2Pers should be given more credit, so stop telling us to buy membership! Its not that we can't afford it, but that most of us simply can't buy it. If you can't say anything to a F2P suggestion but "go buy membership", its akin to showing how silly and immature you are.

I think Jagex are trying to make it easier for people to be able to buy membership, just recently they released RS support with Wallie cards and the pay cards which you can buy in the US. So it shouldn't be that hard buying a membership.

I agree I am not being biased because I am a member but if jagex did that it would be like handing out computer games for free. F2P has already had it's fair share of updates for a few years. Also members have dragon weapons.. yes they only last for hald an hour but isnt that good enough?

I can see how this would annoy you, but you have to just ignore those comments and keep on playing. And yes, although there are no prepaid cards in Asia, there is such thing as paypal. I use an american credit card, but its possible to use an asian paypal account to pay. I do live in Beijing atm but I have no problem as to how to pay for membership.

to be honest if you dont feel membershiop is worth it then why ask for more stuff for f2p? if you feel membership is not worth it you should ask for stuff for p2p to make membership more worthwhile. I know f2p have adds but again thats not really "earning" more stuff its just a thing that if you dont like you get membership and get rid of it.

Kinda off-topic, but there are lots of payments options available for people under 18, or if you don't have a credit card. All you need is your country to have a bank, and a post system. So unless you live in Mongolia or somewhere like that, don't tell me you are in the inability to buy membership.

It is the free to play players who Jagex really need in order to successfully market their game and get a large base of PERMANENT players, players who will log on consistently every week. (not MEMBERS, but permanent players) It is this base that fuels the constant development of RS.

 

 

 

Without the free aspect of the game, there would be very very few players. Why? Well, simply because RuneScape is nowhere near as attractive as the other MMORPGs out on the market. You as a group of people to choose between Runescape and games like WoW or LOTRO or WAR and 90% of them will choose the latter group of games.

 

 

 

Those games market through nifty graphics and flashiness. Jagex markets RS through the F2P game. It is far far more than just a "glorified demo". It is the sole reason why the game still exists today.

F2p IS an endless trial, and nothing anyone says against it will change that. It doesn't mean Jagex won't listen to f2p'ers from time to time. Just look at corrupt dragon equipment. People wanted small tastes of p2p, and they got it...in 15 minute intervals. Then again, that may have something to do with Jagex recognizing how many members prefer to pvp on f2p rather than p2p.

 

 

 

I've found very few people actually believe in the "you suck because you're f2p" stereotype given to members, but many of them are just sick of hearing the same old tired excuses, especially when those people say "Maybe it's not worth 5 dollars". That's just below the belt, really. How would you like it if I used your product, that you had been slaving over for 7 years running, and told you it wasn't worth the price of a big mac meal at mcdonalds? Somehow I doubt you'd like that.

 

 

 

To give you a view of how your thread looks from an outside perspective, I work at Target as the trainer at the food court (Don't judge me, it helps pay for college) and our old health standards said that cookies could not be kept on display after one day, and had to be thrown out. A waste, yes, so I talked to the manager and was approved to give them out for free the next morning (They were marked in the books as thrown out, so the official story is that they were picked out of the garbage). A couple customers caught on to this and started showing up at various mornings.

 

 

 

Needless to say, it only took a few months for a regular to go completely ape-[cabbage] upon finding that the previous day's goods had sold out and there was no free stuff for him, and that was the end of that policy, after almost getting me a truckload of trouble for theft (The top people for the store had come into the food court for breakfast, as they do every morning, and overheard. Luckily, my manager took the heat, admitting she allowed the giving away of food headed to the trash)

 

 

 

If you haven't put two and two together, f2p'ers complaining about having no updates for a game they don't pay for is as pathetic from the rest of our perspectives, as a grown man having an emotional breakdown over no free cookies with M&M's in them. I do agree with the fact that F2P have received a LOT this year. maybe even too much as there was pretty much atleast one F2P update every month.

 

 

 

What irritates me is when people simply claim that F2P's overall contribution is useless when it is an extremely key contributor to the survivability of the game.

I don't have a problem with F2Pers, I won't tell you to buy membership if you don't want to because Jagex offers a comprehensive version of the game for free. However, when F2Pers start saying "we deserve more" it really gets on my nerves. I pay every month for additional content, why should you get additional content when you give Jagex nothing back but just take take take?

Problem with FTP is if you give them an inch, they want a mile.

I'd say both "useless" and "key contributor" as an exaggeration. It's definately useless from the marketing point of view. As for "key contributor" I'd say the key contributor actually are the other players and their passive marketing of the p2p. I'd also like to point out that the addons to f2p are usually more like ways to please the current f2pers, not ways to get more members.

And what do you base this on? You are getting what you're deserving: for the cost of seeing adds you are getting a game to play. I'd say that an average f2per is pretty much a break even or even a small loss for Jagex: you take up server space, you waste customer support's efford and so on.

 

 

 

If p2p wasn't the real money maker, why would Jagex have it in the first place? P2P creates the main profit for Jagex while f2p is just a way to get more people there. A simple way to figure this out: if an f2p player created more money, it would mean p2p isn't worth keeping OR p2p should keep the adds too. If they were even close to each other, it would mean that p2p shouldn't get this many updates due the fact that new members wouldn't bring that much money anyways that the updates were worth the wasted salary and other nice costs.

 

 

 

You f2pers are here only because having a free largely playable version is the best marketing way for Jagex to get p2p members.

There's loads of ways of paying it. I personally don't believe anyone over the age of 13 could find p2p "unreachable" if they really tried for it. There's even pay-by-phone which works with prepaid phones: you can buy one even without your parents knowing and never figuring out! Got no money? well, making that money shouldn't take more than few days if you're dedicated. No matter where you lived. It's about dedication and the will to sacrifice your time, efford and thus money same time in order to get what you want.

 

 

 

I personally give huge respect for those f2pers who have decided to stay there for some personal motives. A perfect example is Forsakenmage. However for people like you, I'd just say "buy it or stop complaining." What you're saying is that "I don't want to work for it but I want these benefits!". We, my comrade, live in a capitalist state. Here you either work for the things you want or you get what's given.
