Does Money Realy Equal Happiness?

well i equate money to success, more successful people are usually the richest, being successful will no doubt bring about some form of happiness.

as for skill capes and 99s, I like to set myself those goals and I get happiness from achieving those goals. as a result of that I wear my capes with pride, because I know what I did to get them.

Friendship and Clans: Possibly the very backbone of your Runescape life, having friends and being in a clan of those you enjoy being with. but now thanks to Skill Capes, High Powered Armor and some Over Powered Clumps of metal known as the Godswords, things have taken a bit of a spin

...

some cannot join clans because they cant afford Godswords, all they want to do is have fun and enjoy the game with those of simular levels, but they cant because they cannot afford or given the chance to try and obtain one.

you are probably looking for the wrong type of "clans". there are a few groups with an open door policy that cater to all aspects of runescape, you just gotta look a bit harder ;)

I believe everyone is jumping to conclusions by saying games are suppose to be "fun" and not "Grindfests" (I believe the word was) What you fail to realize is that the people who grind a the game for "status" or bragging rights do that because that is what pertains to fun in their own minds. Though buying five 99's just because you have the money to may not be "fun" to you it may as well be a rip-snorting good time to those that do it.

Becoming a billionaire. Though you see it as being a jerk or trying to look "cool" some people consider that constant gain of monetary supply fun.

I am not the richest man in runescape, nor am I the one with the highest skill total/exp, but I do enjoy making money and grinding at skills just to do it. And I still complete my goals, most notably to me being 99 defence. I grinded the hell out that goal and it felt damn good when I finished it. Do I still set goals where I need to buy the exp, of course. That's fun to me.

Everyone needs to remember that everyone's idea of fun is different from person to person.

Apparently, my signature was to big.

For me it probably does, as do my skills. The happiness I get from playing this game is the feeling I get when I'm getting closer to achieving my goals, both monetary and skill-wise, and from when I actually achieve them.

I know some people find the fun of RuneScape in the companionship with other players, but it's really not like that for me. After 3 and a half years (with a break of about a year) of playing this game, I still have literally not one person on my friends list. I'm quite anti-social when I'm training, or even playing mini-games. Friend-making is something that I leave to the real world--not that I just people who enjoy making friends over RuneScape.

So as most people have said, money perhaps doesn't equal happiness, but it certainly affects it.

Cool.

Of course not. It helps you a lot with skilling and questing, but happiness you can only get from friends and things you find fun. That is something money can't change or give you.

Happiness is a feeling, Pixel money is a tool. If you put your aim on money, you will loose happiness as soon you'll loose money witch can occur often and quick. If you don't mind it that much and are fun with how you used it you'll be happy... and will stay.

Buying an armour or skill xp or even 'loosing' it in dumb activity (PVPing not as a pure...) can bring you the pleasure to achieve a goal or having fun with ingame friends. Unhealthy working to gather the more possible money for that only purpose only is pointless.

Now, even if it's a tool, you can try to use it wisely. You often feel unhappy when you put all your wealth on a piece of armour that price fall down right after you bought it. But at least now you can (adn have to) use it. On the other hand, you can be lucky to have gathered goods that suddenly raise because of an update.

To keep happiness : prevent high risk attitude. Don't put all you eggs in the same place.

When you feel rich enough, you can blow money on easy xp... that's the only value that won't drop !

Oh baby light the dark side...

In my opinion, money equals greed and boredom. What's the point of playing a game when you can buy everything and everything becomes tedious?

I personally rather enjoy hanging out with friends and doing enjoyable things where I can work with teams to accomplish tasks.

In Runescape I think lack of money equals happiness. You have something to work towards.

It might be fun spending a few mil on runes, but every time I run out and realize my money is gone, I regret it. I guess I'm just not good with money.

TB100%H, i take happiness in training mining. just constant training it. i even went as far as to sell everything of worth in my bank (so i dont lose money and distractions with training and w/e) and now all im gunna do is no life mining until i get 99. after that ill be completely happy, knowing i achieved 99 in a skill that most think impossible to achieve, and as my first too. after im finished selling everything of value, ill have around 10-11m. not a lot. but, actually, when i walk around with money in my inventory wondering what to do, i say "wow this is dumb, i might as well drop it in fally" because i dont see a point in buying stuff that might lose value later on.

No [cabbage] it does.

The hell are you gonna do in this game without money? Cut some wood or mine some ore, that's mad boring.

That's how I get money :wall:

And yes, money is happiness, I don't know about all you other people.... I can't understand how money can't buy me happiness, anyone care to explain? Money in the bank won't make me happy? But spending millions of dollars on like oak planks to get 99 con, is supposed to make someone happy, who wants to do more work.

The money itself is not the key to happiness, but working to build net worth to have the ability to buy whatever you want is an amazing feeling.

When I played the game back in 04-06, I had so much fun merchanting and turning a profit. When I was able to get in to phat merchin, being able to turn a 10-20m profit in just a few trades was an amazing feeling. Because of the money earned in making those profits, I was able to buy skills I never dreamed of leveling in. I quit with 99 mage, and 99 fletching in my bank acct.

Now that I am back in to the game again, in just the two years I have been away, a lot has changed in the game. Once I get around to fletching and alching, I will be able to wear capes. There are a lot more items I can try, armor, weapons, etc. and without having the money to buy these things, I would be just another lvl 85 roaming around the rs world.

Of course money buys happiness..

Money doesn't equal happiness, in real life or RS. It can be a part of happiness, I'm sure many feel proud of their new armour or spiffy weapon. Friends can make one happy and they don't cost anything to make.

A hour of cwar games is more fun, thus happiness, than an hour of skilling to earn a couple hundred thousands. I can easily be broke and happy, but being rich does not guarantee happiness. You can "buy" your friends, but are they really your friend?

Money.... It can get you a shiny, new Armadyl Godsword or a Dragon Full Helm but it can't buy happiness BUT In my case earning money and buying an item I always wanted makes me get a sense of achievement and that makes me happy! So it really depends on you. Do you just want to have fun in this game even with no money but with happiness or use your skills to earn money and buy something you always wanted.

Money equals happiness, sure, but fun equals more happiness.

If I tallied up all the days spent goofing off with my friends rather than grinding, I'd probably have enough to get myself 99 mining. Why goof off? It's fun. RuneScape is fun because friends are fun. Mainly. If I had max gp... I'd probably still be doing the same stuff I normally do.

RuneScape isn't in the almighty depression the author talks about... it's only a few people. Mostly members. All of my friends like to hang around with me. Yeah. That's it.

for years I was poor, then I had quite a lot of luck and made like 500m... I now find the game a lot more fun as I can do literally whatever I want. If I want a skill trained up, I can do it the fastest way possible. If I want to train combat, I can use the best gear. I can help out friends and I can pk with my clan without worrying about dying.

money doesn't equal happiness, it just makes it a lot easier to be happy lol. Same as rl, would you think the person with plenty of money is happier than the person living on the poverty line, worrying about where the next meal is going to come from and having to scrimp and save for the simplest things? yes, you would.
