Does Money Realy Equal Happiness?

Nowadays my goals are pretty much just getting money out of investments. And it makes me happy to get money in that manner. So, for me, yes, money is the fun in Runescape.

as a member i used to make money aching yew longs. now the first 1k i ever did i did everything myself, didnt buy anything and knowing it was all profit was a really good feeling. after that i was very used to buying the strings or the nature runes which got me the retur quicker but profit was a lot less.

 

 

 

i think the same would apply to skilling, you can skill up by not spending millions at once and actually farming some mats, but money makes it quicker.

I think that people strive to better themselves and get as much money as they can so they can worry about what they want to do with the money and not how to make it.

 

 

 

Who really cares if you don't have money, ignore the people that call you a noob that run around in high leveled gear, they are just trying to get to you and you are letting them by writing how everything used to be fun back in the day.

 

 

 

Don't worry about the little things, just have fun, play runescape, and do what you want to do.

Nah..Money doesn't make me happy in RS. I know that since I got more than I need but still don't want to use them cause I am busy doing skills which are more fun than having the money and looking at them. :P

 

But I love making them, the excitement of merchanting/investing, that's what I like.

Tbh, It may for some people, but I find the friends i've made ingame to give me more happiness, and after all that is the point of an mmo.

If there is one update that "ruined Runescape" it was skillcapes. I hate those stupid pieces of trash more than it is humanly possible to hate. If I ever get a skillcape, I will never wear it unless I need the prayer or defence bonuses. The fire cape easily beats skillcapes in all other areas. Hell, I'll probably never even buy them. I could care less if you knew I had 99 in [insert stat here] because 99 is just a number. It doesn't matter. At all. It doesn't give any advantage over 98 (except hp, construction, and to a lesser degree, agility.) Skillcapes turned the somewhat respectable skills of cooking, fletching, and firemaking into stupidities, noob skills. And then there were those people that got harder 99's just for the capes, like farming, runecrafting, and slayer. They were respected because they had hard 99 skills. If it was before skill capes, no one would've given a rat's [wagon] about their stats because they didn't care.

 

No skill is "hard", no skill deserves respect for attaining a certain level in it. If you need a cape to make you feel like you "achieved" something. Or you think a cape will bring you respect from people; you need serious help.

I don't think money is needed in Runescape. I used to be rich, owning rares and such. Since then I'm considered poor by some (below 10m overall) and I've never been happier.

 

 

 

As you said, it's only really egotistical players who aspire to being wealthy, simply so they can buy a paper hat and show if off lol. ;)

 

 

 

The money I do make from skilling/slayer I spend on training lower/neglected/more expensive skills. :D

Yes. Yes, it does, undoubtedly. I really want to go to the GWD, for example, but I doubt any team would employ someone who can't afford a Verac Helmet. Power-training skills? Almost impossible, without a decent pile of money. Heck, I was once abused for using a Dragon Scimitar at Pest Control.

When you're out of the newb fase, having alot of money is the only way to enjoy rs at the fullest, you can try out all the armours, buy the most expensive skills, basicly do everything.

Okay there's no question about it. Money is necessary in RuneScape whether you like it or not. To have alot of it is always better. I know, personally, that having Money (Gold) on RuneScape makes me happy. Yes, some aspects to the game have changed because of this but they were always bound to happen. Having the best armour for the particular task or being able to afford the most effecient training method is ALWAYS nice.

Offtopic: Why do people jump on the train and say "Fletching, Firemaking and Cooking". Just because those 3 are buyable means NOTHING. Crafting, Prayer, Construction, Ranged etc. Are alot easier to get. :|

Fletching, firemaking, and cooking are NOT over 10mil or over 20 days (im talking 24 hour days here) of working

 

CRAFTING- Around 10-15mil and a lot longer then those

 

PRAYER- 100mil and fast, I have no idea

 

Construction- This all depends on whether you want cost effective or as fast as possible

 

Oak doors- Around 20mil maybe? Not sure but a lot higher then the 3 And VERY LONG

 

Just doing mahogany stuff- 100+mil but kinda short

 

Ranged- No cost but JESUS WHY SAY THAT?! I worked my [wagon] off for 70 ranged and I could not take it! Ranged has got to be the second most boring skill to train!

 

My point is those 3 are THE EASIEST SKILLS period, not THAT much cost and not THAT long, anything else will get you a long time to get or a lot of cost to get (see hunter, thieving, and crafting for the next level of capes)

Money wont buy you happiness, but it will enhance it. Having piles of gold in your bank will not make the game enjoyable, but if you life combat, its going to be more fun wearing full dragon than full rune. So ya, the money will not make you happy, but it can make you happier.

Crafting: around 70m doing green d'hide leathers. Very, very fast.

 

Prayer: around 100m and very fast.

 

Construction: Oak planks are around 80m, mahogany plank more than double that I think. Very fast either way.

 

Ranged: Chinchompas are at least 150k+ xp an hour, quite expensive that way.

 

 

 

You use the wrong methods and think wrong. But I do agree with you on the fact that those 3 skills you mentioned are very easy, I am planning to get them as my last 3 capes if I ever get that far :thumbsup:

to me fun and enjoyment is the main objective of playing a game. earning as much money as possible is the secondary objective. if i have to do something very boring and repetitive, i will not do it at all even if it is the fastest way to earn money.

 

 

 

cooking/wcing/ranging/maging(only alcheing) are some of the skills in my list of boring skills. i rarely train them and almost never train them intensively as im more of a combat person. i would rather train my str xp to 200m than to train cooking to lv99 as boredomness really kills me. hunter is another good example of a money making skill which i totally hate to train

 

 

 

costly skills(construction/herblore) can only be trained intensively by rich people(not me) so i only train them occasionally when i get the required items or when they are needed for quests.

 

 

 

to me, getting good drops once in a while(which is near forever thx to my luck) or a potentially rewarding slayer task(spectres and spiritual warriors are 2 from my list) will be enough to make me happy.

Well I think having godswords and other nice things is much more conductive to happiness than not having said things. :-k

 

 

 

The reason people "buy" 99s isn't to be cool, it's because they don't want to spend time gathering tens of thousands of resources for each 99, when they could simply could go monster hunting or runecrafting, saving lots of time and avoiding lots of boredom.

 

 

 

The fact of the matter is that this is just a game, and people should be able to get their sharks however they want to. :|

Ditto what bouwzie said. Not everyone is focused on having overly expensive equipment. Most of it is just ego boosting anyway, since one can obviously get by on much less than the items you mentioned.

 

I prefer to spend my money in something I know I won't lose, so I tend to buy levels rather than equipment. I'm not rich or powerful by anyone's standards (except maybe a newbie :P) but I've played for happiness, not capes or godswords. :)
