evil_mumm_ra Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 i have lots of experience with the game. my final save before the endgame is at 99:30 ish for playtime. the VATS is optional, i'd honestly rent it and try it out. if you liked oblivion, you'll like fallout 3. it's incredibly similar, but different in a great way. you don't have to use VATS, VATS is just incredibly useful. if you find it too easy, turn the difficulty up. or use crappier weapons that are unrepaired. i'm not gonna lie, VATS is pretty cheap sometimes, but that doesn't make it any less fun, especially with the bloody mess perk. there is nothing to compare a vats critical hit to the face that makes the enemy's head and limbs explode off in a bloody mess. But I need to get used to VATS because it's not optional, unless you want to die. The regular combat is there, but the aim is waaaaay off. Get back here so I can rub your butt. evil_mumm_ra Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 it's still optional, i was able to hold my own on normal aiming without vats, back when action points were easy to run out of. i ended up aiming down the sights and killing things just fine, it just used more ammo that way. go for it man, you'll enjoy the game, if not, i'll do something to make up for your not fun time. or something. just look at pryomancer's avatar, i didn't even lose a bet for that. evil_mumm_ra Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 yeah, riku is right. in the beginning of the game, you've gotta use the normal aiming at times, the action points just don't fill up fast enough to always use it. later on at level 20, i got the grim reaper's sprint perk, action points refilled if i killed someone with VATS, making it damn near impossible to run out of action points if i was using a good weapon. Eh, I thought that later I would take the Grim Reapers spirit perk, because I decided that since I didn't have a lot of the locations marked on my map that I would pick the explorer perk. That, and I think I'm going to use the mod that increases the level cap to 30, since I don't want to wait until March for that to come, lol. Also, I didn't choose that perk because lately I haven't made a lot of kills from Vats, but in regular shooting. So that wouldn't have been helpful. I apologize if I sound illiterate or stupid right now, but I just got my Wisdom Teeth pulled out today, and the Valium that I took earlier hasn't worn off that much, and I took one Vicodin , and the laughing gas from my oral surgeons as well...Well anyway, all three consecutively isn't a good mix and I feel a little dizzy and loopy, lol. At least my pain is gone, though. You know, with the night mother and stuff. Except they aren't exactly assassins...Bleh, it's interesting. Just play. Go around minor settlements and offer protection in return for Blood Packs, maybe even having to help protect some areas from attack, and so on. Necromagus Posted January 23, 2009 Author Share Posted January 23, 2009 Yeah, I think I've posted my ultimate combination of perks here before, but basically, Commando, Finesse, Sniper, Concentrated Fire, Action Girl and Grim Reaper's Sprint, combined with a hockey mask that gives another 25 AP, maxed Small Guns and Energy Weapons skills and the unique laser rifle mean that pretty much anything that has a head and isn't a behemoth gets killed from half a mile away. VATS can be incredibly cheap, especially late in the game. The only problem is when there's some sort of object between you and the enemy that VATS doesn't catch and you end up wasting your action points and ammo pumping rounds into a wall. After a second go at the Operation: Anchorage DLC, I'm all tired out...I have to say, way too short for a DLC, however strangely rewarding. The Chinese Stealth armor is officially my favorite armor, because of the stealth and even the bug in it--you can limitlessly equipt helmets! Lol. Seriously, you can equip five helms at once, 10 helms, whatever! But the DR doesn't add up...But the helms bonuses do, so the first helm you equip gives the DR, the others whatever effects it has. It's wicked awesome haha. And, it's been confirmed on the Fallout Wiki, so I'm not crazy... The Gauss rifle is amazing as well. Easy to find ammo and immense power. Nothing more I could ask for. Anyone else complete/have the DLC? As for the Dark Brothood, yes that is what I meant, thanks. Why would you kill them? I got them to protect Arefu. Also keeping them alive will let you make blood packs give you 20 hp rather than 1.
