I've played around 8 hours so far, and I still need to go to the Galaxy News radio station . I'm only level 5 right now, and I'm just exploring. I need to get some better weapons though, the Mutants are scary and I can't get through the city part. Another problem is that I keep running out of ammo, so I can't finish some of the quests I'm doing...

So does anyone know how many total NPC's can join your party?

I know of 4.

[hide=Small Spoilers]Dogmeat, Faw kes(Wtf....why was it censored?), Butch(Once you finish the Trouble on the Homefront quest) and the slave from Paradise City that you can buy off the lead guy.[/hide]

Did some searching.....so here's all of the known companions as of now(Dogmeat isn't in it)

[hide=Spoilers once again...]Jericho

Karma: Evil

Location: Megaton (zone 8.03)

Requirement: Talk him into resuming his previous career as a warmonger. You

must give him 1,000 Caps to recruit him.

Summary: The very high cost to get him might make him not a good choice for a

companion; he's alright in battle, just not 1,000 Caps good.

Clover

Karma: Evil

Location: Paradise Falls (zone 2.0

Requirement: Speak to Eulogy Jones and he'll offer to sell Clover to you.

Summary: She is an absolute maniac in battle and will rip your enemies to

shreds. Get her ASAP.

Butch

Karma: Neutral

Location: Rivet City (zone 9.15)

Requirement: Assuming that you didn't go through with your urge to kill him in

Vault 101, you'll find him during the Miscellaneous Quest:

Trouble On The Homefront. Make sure he's alive, the Overseer is

not in power (either stepped down or dead), and you've sabotaged

the Vault, go to the Muddy Rudder bar in Rivet City and convince

him (shouldn't be hard at all) to join you.

Summary: He's alright in battle; basically more of a "nostalgic" feel to fight

with as he's the one you grew up with.

Sergeant RL-3

Karma: Neutral

Location: Wasteland near RobCo Factory (near zone 7.10)

Requirement: There's a traveling robot salesman named Mister Tinker (or Tinker

Joe) that's roaming the Wastelands near the RobCo Factory that

you can buy him from.

Summary: He's pretty good in combat and will take a lot of damage so you won't

have to. Also, he's very accurate.

Fawkes

Karma: Good

Location: Vault 87 (zone 4.06)

Requirement: He won't join you immediately, but after you visit Vault 87,

he'll be waiting for you.

Summary: Very, very good in battle. He'll take out enemies quickly and you

can have fun sitting back and watching him have his "fun."

Star Paladin Cross

Karma: Good

Location: The Citadel (zone 9.11)

Requirement: Speak to her and she'll agree to accompany you on a detachment

mission as long as you keep your Good Karma.

Summary: She's alright, a good fighter, but since you have Good Karma, it'd

be better to have Fawkes as your follower.

Charon

Karma: Any

Location: Museum of History: Underworld (zone 17.07B)

Requirement: This is a Freeform Quest: Hired Help. Go to the Ninth Circle, and

Ahzrukhal will be there with his bodyguard Charon. You can do one

of two things to get his contract. First, you can buy his

contract for 2,000 Caps (1,000 if you're skilled in Bartering).

Second, you can agree to kill one of Ahzrukhal's rivals named

Greta, who is located in Carol's place.

Summary: Definitely a great get. He's an all-around killing machine that is

very good at killing your enemies. Plus he looks awesome.[/hide]

I'm still toughing it out without a companion. I've reached a point in the game where super mutants suddenly all have weapons in top condition, and I regularly end up selling off a stack of >70% assault rifles.

Meh, I made a long-legged, pissed off Puerto Rican named Punchy. He deals justice with his bare hands :D

Anyone else decide to turn in Mister Burke to Sheriff Lucas inside Megaton? I did and [hide=]As the sheriff was leading Mister Burke to jail, Burke pulls out a silenced 10mm, and he forgot I had a sawnoff out, so I blew his head off before he could kill Lucas[/hide]

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

I never liked using companions. In Fallout 2 I just got Sulik for a bit so he could carry some of my stuff, and help out in a few quests.

Anyway, I've done the GNR quest, and now I need to make my way to Rivet City. I also got the scrounger perk, so ammo shouldn't be that big of a problem anymore.

Yeah, that was a cool twist. I've finished the game, but gone back to a save where I wasn't railroaded yet so that I can get to level 20 first.

Don't forget that power armour needs to be repaired just like everything else. There's a few suits hidden in the game that are found in a good state of repair, but the stuff that you loot off dead bodies usually isn't too good.

Does it still take away from agility? The power armor is supposed to turn you into a tank... Unless the power armor they use in FO3 is an older line of power armors, the ones that bog you down :?...

Or Bethesda just screwed power armor up .

Most types of power armor give +2 strength and -2 agility.

I've reached level 20 on my first character, and I'm pretty much unstoppable thanks to the right combination of perks: Commando, Finesse, Sniper, Concentrated Fire, Action Girl and Grim Reaper's Sprint. Commando gives an accuracy boost to all two-handed weapons (rifles, combat shotgun, etc.); Finesse gives +5 Luck for the purpose of checking for critical hits, Sniper gives an accuracy bonus to head shots in VATS; concentrated fire gives +5% accuracy for each time you target a body part after the first; Action Girl gives 25 extra AP and Grim Reaper's Sprint completely refills AP after getting a kill in VATS. These perks, combined with a hockey mask that gives another 25 AP, maxed Small Guns and Energy Weapons skills and the unique laser rifle mean that pretty much anything that has a head and isn't a behemoth gets killed from half a mile away.

I found a glitch unlimited XP.

[hide=]Sandman Perk(requires 60 sneak) use on a sleeping child(save beforehand) Most children can't be killed, so when you sandman kill a child, he/she doesn't die, and you get 60xp a time.[/hide]

[hide=]Wow, here I was thinking that the Sandman perk was one of the most useless in the game. I guess it still only works for evil characters though... does it penalize your karma?[/hide]
