We can vote people in and you must have about 75% of the votes saying yes to make it to the hall of fame. you must also have at least 100 votes total. While I like the idea of a tipit hall of fame, It would probably just become a popularity contest if we had regular forum users voting people in - people that really don't deserve it will be voted in, while people that did tons of stuff for tipit but have left months ago will be left out. If a feasible way of inducting people could be created, I would support this. Otherwise, no.

I think the point of a hall of fame would be to recognize prominent members throughout TIF's history. The way I would see it happening, if ran and voted on by users, would be whatever popular story-teller on the general board at the time would make it in, but all of the members from way back wouldn't be recognized. Feelings would be hurt, and all around I just don't think it would be a good idea. There's a staff retired list on the main site, I think that's something that you could look at.

People with 'friends' would win and it would turn into a big popularity contest. Not something we need around here. (I dont see a point in one either)

That's just what happened with the AOTM, it was just a contest to see who had the most friends, not genuine rating of achievements.

I agree with the whole sentiment that a hall of fame is something that'll create friction though, so yeah, unless a proper selection process can be established by unbiased people (and really, who is these days) then yes... Otherwise, no...

Hmm, it would be nice if we really had enough people who didn't discriminate when they voted, as stormrage said. But I don't think we do.

 

 

 

Let's pretend that the forum staff did come up with a list of people that they thought would give honest votes though; If it was public, it would turn into some elitist crap. The only way would be to pm all the selected voters so that nobody knew who was in and who wasn't other than the forum staff.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

That said, though, it really sounds like a fun idea. As long as none of the categories are negative, of course. And asking the user for permission to have their name in would be necessary.

Tbh, there is a hall of fame already in place. The users know those who have been huge posters/well thought out post. This creates an unwritten hall of fame.

Generally, those worth remembering are the ones who aren't with us anymore.

This is just a way to fill people's egos. Everyone who follows the rules and contributes to the community in a positive way deserves to be on a hall of fame, not just a few.
