what do you do to make a difference?

I really don't do anything like that.

I just do what I do, and that happens to not involve being 'green'.

Plus my actions won't make a difference anyway.

That's the problem with this current zeitgeist of stopping global warming. If everyone does something, it will stop it. If everyone bar one person does it, it's still going to stop.

Some people think, 'well if I don't recycle nothing different is going to happen, so I won't bother'.

Don't recycle.

Only thing I do is turn things off- but thats to save money rather then the environment, but I suppose no matter which way you look at it, its doing something.

I also do what I do, green or not.

And how is not going to McDonald's making a difference?

I live with 4 geography degree students

I'm practically crucified every time I don't recycle/buy from a large corporation/do anything remotely unethical

We had an enforced household meeting because I bought something Nestle, I wish I was joking :(

Holy hell, thats just a tad OTT, you would think.

I honestly just could not live like that...

And I still have no idea whats wrong with buying from a large corperation.

Hehe, grin at the baron8000's post.

I'm not a "green nazi", but I do most of the little things. Heating a few degrees lower, using long-life lamps, putting out the lights when I'm out, using ecological washing powders/cleaning products, recycling (obligatory anyway in Belgium), try to buy local foods, buy free range eggs, I buy green energy and hope to change to sun panels once I have a house of my own, sometimes buy second-hand clothing, drink tap water, reduce water usage, use public transport (didn't buy a car),...

Every person who changes a bit of their behaviour and tries to inform others how simple it really can be (not to mention good for your wallet), helps.

I really couldn't give a [cabbage] about being "Green", knowing how volatile humanity is we'll most likely die of a Nuclear war before we die of global climate change.

I do charity work though, every Wednesday and Sunday I walk around Dublin with some guys from my schools VDP society giving soup to the homeless, on Tuesdays and Thursdays I do 2 hours in a youth club in the most impoverished area of Ireland / Dublin.

I couldn't really care for "living Green" and helping small businesses, I prefer to help those who don't have the means to help themselves.

Do they even realise that most college students barely have the money to get by and that food from large corporations is usually the most economical solution?

I recycle when I can, and I use a buttload of paper, so i stick that in a bag and recycle.

Luckily my area's council make it ultra-easy to recyle, just stick everything into the green box everyone has. :D

I put the lights out also. But thats about it. I would support the smaller businesses, but its so much cheaper to go the the larger supermarkets during this economic recession :\

Drive my car so it consumes 4-5l per 100km? Doesn't really make much difference (except for your wallet)... But driving techniques, driving on high gears/sparing the gas can save you even a few thousand bucks/year in gas costs. And hey, if it reduces Co2 emissions (which it does), what's to lose... With beginner driving techniques, depending on the engine of the car, for argument's sake 2.0l, you'll consume 8 liters or more per 100km, so it does matter.

I try my best to recycle.

I am the one in my house who is always turning the heating down because to be honest there is really no need to have heating on during the day when noone is in, except mum but she sleeps throughout the day so the heating shouldnt be up that high.

when I am here on my own, if i get cold i put a jumper on, if i am still cold i get my blanket. If I am STILL cold, then i put the heating up.

Our main rubbish is collected every other week, but our recycling is collected every week, so I always try to recycle as much as possible, it reduces the hassle of having a overflowing rubbish bin.

At work we do recyle on a mass scale. We get told off by the depts if we send back not full cages of cardboard and stuff like that.

Oh, and I don't drive, I try and walk most places.

I recycle....and for art detentions, I fix recycling bins for the school and put them in the classrooms.

I tend to get art detentions alot and I guess it's helping indirectly.

I bus to school, recycle, and don't turn everything off. It's just a pain to do it all the time <.<

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

I'd rather walk rather than take a car/bus. Assuming my destination isn't too far away, that is. The landscape is also beautiful this time of the year, so it's worth it.

I dress like a hippie ;)

When I see garbage on the ground and there's a garbage bin close to it I pick it up and throw it in.

I use natural oils and things to wash my hair and body.

I NEVER throw something on the ground.

I grow my own plants (if that matters, things like pepper, etc)

I only drink water.

I'm quite the mycology and herb-fanatic so I spice my food with mushrooms and home-grown herbs, spices, etc.

I eat meat but not on a regular base, you could say i'm a half-vegetarian  don't get me wrong though, I love the taste of meat.

I'll go by bike rather then to ask my parents to bring me with the car.

I always put the heat some degrees lower without my parents knowing, they never notice.

I could go on but I guess those are mostly normal things. I don't do this for the planet though, I just do this... For myself, I'm just like that.

I recycle.. And that's about it. Aside from that, I'm almost completely anti-"green". I'm always leaving game consoles/my computer running, leaving lights on, "wasting" water (I shower more than the average person), I tend to drive sports car that burn a lot of gas, and so much more. Hopefully I'll be dead before I see the terrible things I'm helping cause.

I drive a 4.2L turbo diesel... there's not much I can do to counter the amount of fuel I used per week  I only conserve water and it's because of water restrictions, If we didn't have them I'd most likely have longer showers than I usually do.
