Grogthurk
To the nay sayers of level three clues, I say this; If you do every clue, your odds of getting the 3a increases. So the odds are low to begin with, but with each one (technically) your odds increase. Granted, each of your clue HAS the same odds, but by doing more you increase YOUR odds. If anyone here has played Ragnarok Online, you'd learn to understand that 1/10000 or whatever it may be for 3a is actually not so bad of an odd. silralisk
Anyone else besides me have an entire section of their bank devoted to one of each item needed for the lvl-3 emote clues? I figure this bank section is worth easily over 200k but well worth it cuz I can just bank, grab the items I need, grab the teleport I need and I'm off. Yes, I have one tab that is filled with such items, plus watch , sextant and chart. The biggest problem with these is not their value, but rather the amount of bankspace they take up. i do the same...1 entire tab just for uri...instead of just keeping lv3 uri emote items, i keep for lv2 and lv1 clues as well since i do clues of all levels. ive completed at least 95% of uri's items and it indeed took up a lot of bank space but i still have 60-70 spaces left in my bank. maybe its time to clear your junk? you can try sharing the burden of the storage of the uri items with your friend and you can borrow/lend from each other when any of you needs it. 1 quote for people who gave up on lv 3 clues as they havent gotten any good rewards from it---Quitters never win, winners never quit. even with my horrible luck(i mean HORRIBLE), i still do every single clue ive gotten, regardless of their level. it doesnt only gives you a chance of getting good items but also gives you a quick break from what you are doing. sirtommy: you wear that while doing a clue? all i wear is my light clothing+10 house tele runes+1 duel ring to tele to cw. bringing all those things will slow you down since you have to run a lot(imo terrorbirds regen too little un less u have like 80++ agility). i just tele to cw everytime i get a new clue to bank for it. if banking is not needed i will tele to my house for free teles using my portals. AndyPandy
I usually drop my level-3 clues, or else they just build up a thick layer of dust in my bank... the costs (Laws and time) outweigh the rewards (Firelighters...) by far. I'm sorry, but that is just not true. I'll quote myself: Why is everyone saying that costs of travelling far outweigh the profits of an average level 3 clue? A level 3 clue is 9 clues, is it not? So that's 9 teleports, though probably less due to spirit tress, gliders, jewlery etc. Average cost of a teleport: 334gp for a law rune 39gp for 3 air runes 16gp for an elemental rune All together that is around 389gp per teleport. Multiply that by 9 and you get 3501gp. Let's say you use a charter ship for one or two of those journeys. So that could add possibly, 1.75k per ship? Multiply that by 2 and add it on. All together you get 7001gp. That's if you teleport on all clues, and use a charter ship on two of them. Not even factoring in the clues you will use free transport for, that is a lot less than the average level 3 clue reward, which at the moment is around 30-40k. Uri's items aren't event that expensive anyway, and if he asks for something like a rune plate, then you can easily sell that back later for a loss of less than a few thousand gp. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. compens
I have easily done 500+ level 3 treasure trails during my time on runescape. Level 3 trails are at least 5 clues long, but no more than 7 clues (someone mentioned 9 clues and that is incorrect). Usually, I get about 20-60k worth of stuff (rune item or two, bloods/laws, etc). But the rarer items are nice to get, although I get those about once every 10-20 clues. The biggest BAD change to treasure trails was the addition of construction items, including high level flatpack furniture, various boards, and various nails. This big mistake has driven the price of high-end flatpacks to ridiculous levels, such that even those with lower level construction skills can easily afford high-ened furniture, which penalizes those who worked hard for higher level con. For example, an opulent table costs over 1 mil in materials to make (and I spent that on mine), but the addition of these high-end flatpacks has driven the price down to about 5k!!! That is ridiculous. I have also noticed that at the same time construction items were added, it became very hard to get book pages. I used to get book pages much more frequently, but have not seen one since the con items were added!! The prices of pages have become ridiculously high. This is really my only gripe about them. If Jagex would remove construction items as rewards, it would really improve things!

Agreed, u have done every clue drop i have recieved since 80 or lower slayer, clues used to make me descent money, and i quite often got god pages, but since the construction items have been added, i havent had a single page. Overall i think the basic rewards should be slightly increased, or atleast remove the junk which seems to build up, and about uris, jsut keep the items in bank, so much hassle saved. Still, despite the poor items, they eventually add up, and clues provide a nice break from the grind of Slayer
Komodo_Jo
Hmm, interesting stuff here, I have a lot to comment on... I always do every clue I get. Nowadays that means primarily just lvl 3's, as I don't often fight stuff that drops lower level than that, though occasionally I get a lvl 2 from a dagannoth or giant rock crab or something. I've done hundreds if not thousands of clues in total, and go through waves of good luck and bad luck. Lately I've been getting good luck; the other day I got a trimmed glory ammy and a gilded table, and then on the next clue got a zammy coif. I don't know that I've ever done a lvl 1 clue worth doing, those you can definately spend more on teleports than you get on the reward, but there is some good stuff there too I guess... Lvl 3 clues only take me like 15 minutes or so depending on what I get, and the puzzle boxes are easy now that I've practiced enough to really visualize how to do them (when I started I mostly just clicked at random for half an hour until it worked out  ). A few of my records relating to what other people have posted: Fastest puzzle box: 1 click (seriously, it was all but solved, I had to move one piece and it was done, I was dumbfounded!) Most clues from one slayer task: 9 level 3 clues from a task of hellhounds (I kept getting after like 2-15 kills! Made it not worth the trek into Taverly dungeon to get to the hellhounds to fight them...) Best reward: 3rd Age Mage Hat (see, they're not just a myth, I actually got one! whoohoo! Now if I could just sell it for what it's really worth... I don't have 100mil worth of junk... :wall: ) In my time doing clues I've gotten all kinds of stuff, including mostly full sets of guthix and zammy armors, a robin hood hat, most of a full set of rune (t), zammy dragonhides, etc. Sometimes you get garbage, but keep at it and eventually you'll get something good. There seems to be a definate difference between clues in that some monsters drop clues with better rewards than others. For example, in my experience, clues from hellhounds and abyssal demons are usually not very good, while clues from cave horrors and dragons are on average pretty decent. Also, the difficulty of the clue seems to affect its reward. I know not to expect a good reward if I haven't gone in the wildy or fought a couple saradomin wizards. If it's just maps and anagrams and stuff, I usually just get rune junk and sweets and stuff. I think Jagex definately should remove some current rewards, such as nails (rune nails are all but useless and don't sell in the ge), and change the rarity of some other items (once you've gotten one flatpacked gilded table, you don't need another...) As for how many steps a clue has, I don't usually keep track, but most of the time my lvl 3s are around 6 steps (not counting puzzle boxes, challange scrolls, etc. as separate steps). Also, has anyone else ever gotten a clue, then gotten the exact same clue again? Or opened a chest only to have the chest still in inventory, then opened it again and it seems to count this as two separate steps? Both of these have happened to me on a couple occasions, odd glitches I suppose. Once I got a map clue for the house in rimmington just west of the house portal. I dug there, got a chest, opened it, and got the same map clue again. I dug a second time and didn't get anything. Dug around all over and never got anything, so I eventually just dropped the clue (another stupid glitch...). Another thing, the posters above me mentioned god book pages now being quite rare. I have also noticed this. I used to get them all the time, maybe 1 every 3-4 clues, and occasionally 2 in one clue. Now I have not gotten one in probably 6-9 months at least, since about the time of the update to TT's this past spring. This leads me to believe that Jagex (accidently?) took them out as a possible TT reward. Has ANYONE out there gotten a god book page in the last 6 months? compens
What I bring for lvl 3 clues: I wear: Black dhide body Black dhide chaps Boots of lightness (requires Temple of Ikov quest started) Spottier cape Dueling ring I wear these items for lightness and good magic protection from rev teleblocks while in wildy. I bring in inventory: 20 laws, 50 air, 10 fires 10 water, 10 earth runes (for most basic teleports) watch, sextant, map games necklace spade 1 super antipoison (for Sara wizard attacks) 10 monks If you have done the As A Last Resort quest, ALWAYS take a dip in the pool right before starting the treasure trail! The unlimited run energy is perfect for clues! I have 2 of each clue item in my bank, all grouped together. I recommend 2 of each so you have a placeholder to keep them all together, if you don't use the bank aco[bleep] tab feature (I hate the tabs - terrible "update" in my opinion). Overall, I agree with the other peeps that you should do all clues, especially lvl 3s. There is always that chance for a great reward, although my best ones have been 2 robin hood hats (on separate treasure trails). I have also gotten some nice armor pieces that sold for anywhere from 200k to 2 mil. Go treasure trails! Remove the contruction items, Jagex!! Ukurcini
Well I always make a profit from the clues, the profit can be small sometimes and big sometimes but its worth doing because you can get a good reward. If only they could add an option thats lets you see the reward for the clue after you do the first one or so, so you can decide to do it or drop it. :o

speedy1135
yay! i'm not the only one who has a clue-setup/inventory  I think jagex has messed up clues pretty badly. Like a year ago, god pages were very common and i always got atleast rune legs/rune plate in every clue(or any other item). That resulted in atleast 100k for every clue i did, which was of course very nice. But now I just get rubbish.. some clues i don't even get 10k from... (and then a few of those rubbish clues in a row) I still do every clue i get, but i don't like them that much anymore. As for puzzleboxes, they are soo easy when you know how to do them ;) just watch a vid/read guides and you'll see for yourself 8-) and for the people who don't think you can get 3rd age items from clues: think again ;)

Slayer_Jesse
yes there are alot of junk clues out there. but i have *never* dropped a clue scroll, not even a lvl 1. persistence pays off with clues... in all the time that ive done clues (say.... mid '05?) i have gotten 4 robin hood hats, about 4 rewards worth over a mill, and several 500k+ chests. of course, i get alot of junk too. but the thing is to keep trying, and it will eventually pay off.
