Well I went to a school at a community college. I couldn't pay the tuition at the time. So i've waited until now about 6 months. They added on 600 dollars roughly. 100 dollars a month late fee. It was 1,200 Dollars, but now it's 1,800 Dollars.

 

 

 

Anyone know if I can get that lowered from the fees or do I have to pay all of it now? Should I try going to the school to see if I can only pay 1,200?

I highly doubt that your going to be able to get rid of your late fees, its a cost you have to pay. The best answer is to contact the school directly.

Did you come here for empathy? We're not lawyers, we don't know your legal options. It sounds like you knew what you were getting into, so I don't see how you can act like you were a victim to whatever happened.

Why do you think i'm looking for sympathy. Also I didn't know they could just put fees on you. I should have paid that one first. I decided to start paying the fee from the school I am in now.

It's a late fee, I don't think they will be lenient with your case (unless you have an excrutiatingly good reason why you couldn't pay, eg your house with all your money burnt down).

I agree with the OP; you're screwed. Start mooching off your mates and parents for loans, or go on the run to Mexico.

There was no fine print. I just took the classes. They should at least tell you this. I didn't think it would be a big deal which one I paid off first.

I'm sure there were administrative forms which you filled in before taking classes, or at least some other kind of literature for prospective students.

There's no way they would just throw fines at you. I'm fairly certain its illegal to charge a person on fines they were not told about. Obviously a major school is not going to scam it's students so easily when they would make more money off you in the long run if you stay in the school. So you must have missed something. If I were you I'd start working an extra job or two and see what you can mooch from others to get past this.

Yea, you could probably go to them and ask why you were charged the extra $600 and they should tell you. Maybe then you could work out some payment plan or something. IMO, it was pretty idiotic to let it get to this point, though. When you first knew you couldn't pay you should've told them and tried to work something out. Damn expensive lesson.

He must have signed something, because I doubt any school would let their students attend with a verbal promise to pay.

Well as far as I know, any college you attend you have to sign paper work. Its part of the enrollment process.

Well, if you're in the Marine Core as your name suggests then the GI Bill should take care of all your schooling.

'fraid so. Unless it wasn't in any contract that you signed with the school (which I severely doubt), you have to pay it. I suggest getting a loan.
