Games Franchises that Should Give Up

I think the only game in the Mario series I ever really liked was Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on the Gameboy Color. I also hear that Super Mario 3 is good, but I've only gotten a few minutes playtime with it.

Which ones have you played?

All of the Wii Mario games, and many of the games on the Gamecube, though their names are so similar that I have no idea except that most of them were Mario Party.

I didn't like M2 much, but M3 was good in the short time I had with it, and SMBD was pretty good too.

Honestly, Mario has never been anything great, but they were at least pretty good when they were 2D. 3D = suck when it comes to the old games. Sonic was also destroyed by the transition from 2D to 3D. I think the only 2D franchise that was made better in 3D is LoZ.

The latest one I've played was Sunshine, which wasn't bad. But my favourite 2 are both 2D. Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3. I didn't like 2.

When you talk, you sound like durrrrrr i hate good graphics durrrrr i love nintendo. Seriously, think before you post.

Why do you put yourself in a category to begin with? Does being a "PC dude" make you a better gamer?

Does being a "Nintendo dude" make you a worse gamer? <.<

Competitively yes, since the only games that really matter on TIF are competitive.

However, the age and most likely also skill in gaming is all in PC. You wont find so many 13 year olds on PC like you do on an Xbox, but that generally doesnt make a PC gamer better, just statistically better.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Huh?

He insulted you by pretty much calling you a Nintendo dude. Then Nadril called him a 360 dude. He got offended and asked if being a PC dude makes you a better gamer, so I used his question against him and asked if being a Nintendo dude makes you a worse gamer. You said yes... I don't understand why you would insult yourself. :?

I'm not. I'm saying that everyone on TIF cares about multiplayer, competitive games. I am in no way a "nintendo dude", I just got a wii because I wanted Brawl and a few other games. I always planned on using PC for gaming.

Mario is great, and can still expect great games to go with it. It's not dead, and I don't think it will be for a while. I don't know where everyone is going with the Mario thing.

I won't say the newer Mario games aren't good, but I think the best ones were the old 2D ones. Why? Simplicity. Run, Jump, Collect Coins, Find Princess Mushroom. It was just so simple, yet so terribly hard.

The classics are definitely the best Mario games out there, yeah. I just don't see Mario as being far from dead right now.

The only thing I don't get is what does it matter if the same mascot stays in games? Would you really think it would make a game that more enjoyable if Nintendo come up with some other random [wagon] character for a new platformer game? The Mario titles (at least the core titles) have all been different enough anyways. Just be thankful that Nintendo still cares about Mario and games with him in it unlike Sega and Sonic. Sonic should be stopped because no good games are coming out of it and it is tainting the memory of the older games (because some kid will play a recent sonic game and think it sucks and will probably never try the classics). With Mario we're getting new games that might not even be made for us but for a younger generations, which I think is a good thing.

If you've "grown out" of Mario than it is fine but I think Nintendo still has enough care for the character that it should continue to do new games for new generations.

I agree. You can argue that some games, such as Mario Party and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games are not up to par on Nintendo's quality, but in a core game Mario is always treated well. The games are always filled with fresh idea's and they always try some new mechanic out. I have yet to see a core Mario game that was not enjoyable to play.

There have been plenty of core Mario games that haven't been great. The difference between new Mario games and new Sonic games is that with the Mario games, they put actual effort into it, and it's noticeable. Whereas in Sonic they... don't, and it's not.

They do put effort into Sonic, too. It's just that the games were meant to be 2D.

No, they haven't put in any effort since the Dreamcast. Sonic Adventure I and II are good examples of good 3D sonic games. It can be done, the sonic team just doesn't care enough to try anymore.

Is Sonic Adventure the one where you have to kill enemies to get the things to follow you to the safe area? I think I have a PC port of that somewhere.

uhh, I don't think so. Was pretty standard sonic gameplay, just in 3D. The only real problem with the game is that the camera could be a major pain sometimes, but it did show that sonic can be done well in 3D.

Why do people keep saying "X should have stayed 2D"

If everything stayed 2D, would we have the games we have now? Of course not. And most people would probably end up complaining because it's in 2D. Gahh.. Game developers can't win. Although I do agree that the sonic team are quite poop.

Some games make more sense in 2D. And those ones are the ones I think should have remained 2D. Mario was at its best in 2D, although I admit there were good 3D ones. Same with Sonic. I think, at minimum, they should continue making 2D games, even if they make 3D games, too.

Yarp, I also forgot to add that Mario is dead...

It is clearly not dead. Mario's popularity is still amazingly high. I will, however, agree that they should return to making 2D games. And not remakes, just new ones. If they do not wish to return to 2D, then I say they should give up. Oh, and jumping on heads is STILL the coolest way to KO an enemy

Hehe, I still reckon they should do remakes to improve the quality of the original games, but keep them 2D. And I can't argue with jumping on your enemies heads  I personally don't think they should be so popular. Too many games :?

Sonic: Unleashed.

We decided since everyone loves Sonic, we would make a game that drifts from his normal jumping abilities and running abilities to this, stupid, pointless, crap version of a werewolf game.

IMO Mario and sonic are bad in 3d. It just isn't fun because they barely have any good abilities. Mario being a little better with some powerups. I got sonic and the secret rings and it is horrible. I played a little mario galaxy but was a bit boring after a while.

Play Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure. Sonic and the Secret Rings is a horrible game, you shouldn't base it off of that.

All in all Nads, they arent 'horrible' games - they are quite good, but personally, and probably some other peoples opinions are that the old 2D games are better, and we kinda judge the new ones on the old ones, because they were so cool..

I guess remakes would be alright, as long as they ONLY re-did the graphics. I just don't want to see them add features that weren't there in the original.

I try not to, so I usually enjoy the newer ones. But I do prefer the old ones.
