Games Franchises that Should Give Up

The first three games were fun. They have some of the best multiplayer out there, with tons of replayability. But look at their new games. Halo Wars, which has recieved positive reviews, was a strategy game of the Halo Universe. It was a nice distraction from their FPS games. But now look at their lineup. Halo ODST, which is an expansion of Halo 3, is being marketed as a new game and being sold for $60. Halo Reach is another new game in the franchise which is most likely going to be another FPS. Now, multiple games in on series is ok, but this is too much. Look at Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. These series have been around for a long time and they still get entries made too. But the game play doesn't get stale. There is something new everytime you play the next entry. But Halo is starting to get stale, expecially since they are releasing their games so fast.

Halo-Though it did help popularize FPS games, using the same formula as the first two for Halo 3 made it absolutely boring and sub par to the competitors. Still, everyone gave it great reviews (probably because it's Halo, and god forbid Halo be recognized as what it is, a sub par shooter). The only reason I own it is for multiplayer. Most other games of the genre don't have half the online players as Halo.

 

 

 

Sonic the Hedgehog- The original games were great, but the continuation of the character roster, the fact that every one of the games has to add [developmentally delayed]ed gimmicks in order for people to play them, the platforming issues. Everything about the new ones sucks. It continues because of the little kid fan base. One of the best gimmicks is the new Sega All Stars Racing, where Sonic drives cars with friends. Because the fastest hedgehog on Earth can't be bothered to do what he was originally there to do, run really fast and kill little animal robots. Which is another thing I don't understand, there is no speed in the new games. Puzzles, clunky platforming, it's missing the one reason the games did well in the 90's...speed.

 

 

 

Mario- I'm sorry, but this series has gotten old really fast. His original games were fun and good. Mario 64 was an "Eh" sort of game that wasn't all that great. And now, Nintendo is milking him, even though he's running dry. He has too many titles that include him and other characters in the series to count, all half assed, and usually never much fun. His last real game, Mario Galaxy, was an alright game (of course, theres a sequel, because everyone knows planet hopping, bee crotch scratching Mario is awesome).

 

 

 

I have never played Twilight Princess, so can't count Zelda, though I hate the Windwaker crap, and I can't count Metroid because I have barely played any of the new games (I am planning to get the trilogy package when it comes out.)

WHOA! Mario 64 was "eh"? It brought platformers into 3D like Ocarina of Time brought adventures. It's also a great entry to the series. Save the princess and battle Bowser in a whole new way.

 

I do agree that they are milking him though. I did enjoy Galaxy though. I'm not looking forward to number 2 though.

 

 

 

And what was wrong with Windwaker? The only part I had any complaints about was finding the 8 pieces of the Triforce. Other than that it was a solid game. A lot of fun and sufficiently epic. Even the graphics were great. Everyone complained about cell shading, but it fit the game perfectly and was done really it, it all looked great.

The single player sucks, everyone knows that, that's why it's all about multiplayer. Multiplayer is godly, if you play a custom game with friends.

I keep desperately hoping that Sega will surprise me with a new, original, fun sonic game, but I end up dissapointed over and over again.

Multiplayer is not "Godly". I could easily complain about the community, but I will just say this:

 

 

 

There are much better, much more immersive multiplayer experiences out there. Looking at games like Team Fortress 2, or Left 4 Dead, it is much more complex. Sure you can level up and gain new stuff for your guys, but I still personally think it's fairly shallow an experience.

 

 

 

Also, please resist the urge to make a Rick Astley joke because next time I hear a joke based on this guy, I swear I will shove my computer down someones throat. Internet memes should give up. Especially old ones like Rick Roll'd. It was funny the first times, but it should have died once he personally recognized this at the Macy Parade last year. Same with Chuck Norris. It was funny the first couple times, but is now so boring and stupid, I punch myself every time I see a joke about the guy.

 

 

 

And, if you could please expand upon what makes Halo's multiplayer a godly experience. Back it up with opinions and such instead of putting one sentence based on what you think. If we are to have a conversation, I like it when my opponet doesn't take the simple aproach, but instead takes some time to write out some reasons they have their personal opinion.

I may have misled you, saying Halo 3's multiplayer is godly was too broad of a statement. The majority of the Halo 3 online, though not a horrible community, is mostly matchmade. While there can be some fun games, and some crazy, funny stuff goes on, overall it kind of sucks unless you're really good.

 

 

 

Which is why we have sites like SGP (btw, just because I'm mentioning it here, about how great it is and how you should join and all that, and how I along with the rest of the staff guarantee you a great time, doesn't mean I'm advertising it). You need to get a good group of friends online, and play a crazy custom game with them. And not just a custom competitive game. I mean a forged map, with a completely out-there goal. For example, I've played a game where it's several teams of two on an insane, swirly, trap filled racetrack, where each team was on a mongoose, one driver, and one guy on the back with a spartan laser. So hectic, and so fun. Kicks the [cabbage] out of NASCAR that much is sure.

Mario- should return to the basics. 2D, Mario/Luigi/Yoshi vs Bowser + minions to save Princess Mushroom/Peach.

 

Zelda- I haven't played the newest ones, yet, so I can't say too much. But the old ones were very good, and (despite the views of many people) I thoroughly enjoyed Windwaker.

 

 

 

I haven't played any Wario or Metroid titles, so I don't really know much about those. Animal Crossing, I've only played one, but it wasn't the greatest. Pokémon should be stopped after the Gold/Silver remakes, since it would help complete the diamond/pearl/platinum pokedex.

Don't just be anti-Nintendo, give reasons for why. Though I agree that Nintendo reuses their core games way too much, they do add new features that make the games unique, so they don't become stale (though that can be argued).

 

 

 

Also, why is Wario on the list? The Warioware games are pretty neat, and arn't that old. I can see Pokemon, since there so many games and more on the way, but Warioware has always been a fresh experience, especially with motion and touch screen controls.

Bungie is seriously milking the Halo series since it came out in 2000. There have been more Halo games than any of Nintendo's first party characters games (In that 2 mario, or 2 zelda, etc). Bungie is up to 6 games since the company started. Valve is milking Left 4 Dead. EA milks all of their sports titles and the Sims.

To be honest, the only part I have liked in any of the Halo games I've played is driving the various vehicles.
