What are your thoughts on grand exchange merchanting?

Featured Replies

I personally don't do it, and wouldn't if I had the opportunity. It just seems more like grinding for a skill, except with money instead of levels. Sure, you can get the money/level, but it's not as enjoyable to me. I'd rather earn the money through an exciting monster hunting trip, or a lucky drop.

I don't harass people about it though. If you want to merchant, fine. It's your business, I don't have the right to judge you for it.

impossible. you can't resell until 4hrs after buying.

I agree with that as our Economy is going down very harshly and people are losing jobs because things at "Work" go slow so they require less people to do things and save money. We can all see this if we look out the window at gas prices as you see them at 76 cents/litre where they used to be $1.40/litre. This shows that for some unknown reason our Economy has gone down.

There are a few theories i think that are the cause behind this:

1: Global Warming

With each passing year the hole in the ozone layer continues to grow as due to Human activites and we need the ozone layer to keep away the cosmic rays the sun throws down to earth. As times zones are going faster and such.

2: Self opposed

People may not buy things as much as they used to due to self opposed reasons and due to the fact that it's the middle of winter and people do not bother to go out in the cold to get necessities.

3: World wide issues

As all of you may have know there is a War between the U.S. and Pakistan as they refuse to do what the U.S. say and go against the Muslims co-cohabiting their country where the U.S is bombing their country and such. They also hid India's 4 most wanted in their country i beleive this was a immigration mistake.

The economy went down because the banks failed because the U.S. government tried to make the ability to own a house available to everyone. This obviously isn't possible because these people couldn't pay their mortgages and it cost the banks a ton of money. (This is just a very short summary of what happened. I could go into more detail, but I'm too lazy right now.)

As for your bit on global warming, that is completely wrong. The so-called hole in the ozone layer is really only a weak spot and has been shrinking for quite a while now (most theories point to the fact that refrigerators no longer use a certain chemical that somehow affected the ozone). As for global warming as a whole, the entire premise behind it is wrong. Weather is cyclicle. One look at the recorded weather conditions throughout history show this (The same crowd was complaining about global cooling and the coming ice age back in the 1980's). Not to mention that some NASA employees have lied about global temperatures (1998 is NOT the hottest year on record; that title belongs to 1937 (I think; I do know it was in the mid-late 1930's, though)) and most scientists are actually predicting 10-15 years of global cooling now.

it looks like he originally put in a offer to buy 13 plateskirts, then he logged out for awhile (overnight perhaps).

the next morning, 10 of the 13 skirts have gone through, which he then sells on the GE immediately.

I merchant...a lot, have for years and will continue to do so because there is no one correct way to play Runescape.

In my years I've yet to meet a single person who is "anti merchanting" that is so out of any virtue but rather because they are being affected directly by other people's merchanting. These people then post on forums (Such as these) about the moral obligations of people and how merchanting ruins the game...for them. These people are only angry because they have been personally affected by merchanting, these people are acting strictly out of self interest...the same self interest they are accusing us of.

I've been a merchant for over 5 years, people have been complaining about us the entire time and yet today merchanting is more rife in this game than ever before. This simply is not an argument that people who are anti merchanting are going to win.

Most people forget to factor in the time it takes to learn about the items.

I spent an hour yesterday scimming charts and trying out offers. Once you've got a certain set of items that you know the prices of etc, its easy.

I'm still a bit confused with the trade and selling limit though.

If I just bought something, I cant sell it for 4 hours, right?

If I just sold something, can I instantly rebuy?

If I bought something, waited 4 hours, then start selling. Can I buy more in the mean time?

Solo merchanting works. You just gotta know what&when&how, to invest on certain items. There are some items you can invest on that will never fail in the end (however, the downside is that it will take 1-4weeks depending on the amount).

For those confused on what to merchant on, I'll give a couple of examples ( Just small profits.. can't give out all my secrets ::' )

swordfishcb2.jpg

(Sorry for bad quality)

Take note of the following:

1) Notice how the line in the graph begins to fall ? this (IN THIS CASE -however NOT always.) indicates that the price is gonna FALL again.

2) Notice how the crash happens around the same price? Now you know when to sell at MAX price before deadline.

3) The light blue circle ( even off the graph ) represents when the crash usually ends.. however ( look at number 4 )

4) Sometimes sudden "further" crashing may take place.

So how much profit ? Let's use 24th-Dec to 01-Jan.. -> Buy at 347gp - Sell at 391. Profit= x 44.

Say you Invest on 20000 Swordfish = 6,94mil. Profit = 880k in 8 days.

Enjoy.

All right, when I read this yesterday I thought it was time to put some more time in merching again and guess what: Made 5m + so far :-)

I'm facing a few problems though:

1) I have too much unused money. The trade limit seems to stop me from using my full investment power. This is also cause I didnt invest in that much items (like 5 of them).

2) Trade limit timer:

"Am I offering a bad price, or are those 4 hours still counting"

Also, Can you instantly rebuy after selling, or is there also a 4h limit.

Lastly, I was wondering wether there are people who have experience with flipping godswords and other high end weapons. Is it possible/profitable, yet safe enough?

I like the GE because I don't have to deal with the you pigs face to face anymore.

I don't have to hear great things "wtf, no noob offers" & "lmao noob, its not worth that, scammer".

Merchanting is just one kid ripping another kid off, plain and simple. (think of it as non-violent pking with a RTW twist thrown-in)

Solo merching is, imo, a great idea. But clan merching...I hate it. And, only clan merching really affects the economy a lot. Imagine: 50 people with 10m or more, all buying (item). that would make the price go up a lot, obviously. But one person buying wouldn't make too much of a difference, unless that one person is very rich.

Arisaka, the Japanese rifle. O_o

Tell me, did any of you happen to kill a red spy on the way here? No? Then we still have a problem.

Heard of GE limits?

10*50M isnt enough to buy out most item btw.

^Thats true.

If you want to buyout a cheap item, then it is cheap because it is easy to get. You won't be able to buyout that.

For expensive items, that are harder to get, 500m total. You can't buyout any item people actually buy, with that.

true but i checked on cmrobins and there were 32 people at that one time. now that wasnt all of them, so thats quite alot of people and probley quite a lot of money screwing us over.

32 People? That can't do anything. Honestly, without a somewhat organised channel with atleast 100-200 people with atleast 30M cash, you're not really going to get anywhere fast.

Buying an item out now, after the added limits, means you need ALOT more people. And to be able to hold it for a week or more, you need people with extra money.

10M is nothing when it comes to buying out.

Well I think that it is cool because it is similar to a real life stock market. People can really do some in-depth analysis, planning, and thinking and work to make a profit. And best of all there is a good amount of risk

I would like to see a giant merch clan with tons of extremely rich people try and raise something like fire runes/feathers. IF it's even possible, that is.

It's not because those items are readily available both from shops and monster drops
