OK, so here's the deal. I got a year of Membership for christmas. I was members in the summer and november out of my own pocket. I achieved LOADS in that time. I made 10m from shark fishing (100k/h) in a month. I then got 70 melees, and 70 of other stats in November. For me, that was LOADS.

 

 

 

Now, I have been trying for 80 melee's since Christmas. I am on 77 atm, and it's going pretty slow. I will admit, it is a big gap, but still.... Also, I have had no clear idea of what I want to do since Christmas..

I don't work, it is a game and you play to have fun.

yes the goal is to have fun but i set time limits so i can better manage my time. like, i wanted 85 mining by end of 08. i didnt achieve that, and i started slacking. it keeps me on task and i can hopefully achieve both of my 99 goals before end of junior year in 2010

No I don't do better on a time limit since sometimes I get side tracked and do totally different from what I originally planned to do lol :|

No, I try to enjoy the game. If I am under pressure, I'm not enjoying it.

Irl I don't. I get too stressed up =/ But in rs I think so... even tho there's no 'real' time limit in rs. Kinda.

I don't enjoy self-imposed time limits on skill/item goals, but I do find it fun to race with my friends on quests. Whenever I win, I go through the "quest cape in your face" little ritual of mine.

I ACHIEVE GOALS better on a time limit. For example, I want to barrow to make money. If I can only go on for 30 mins., I will barrow as fast as humanly possible in that time. If I have all day, I'll do 6 runs and get bored, then do random stuff and waste time. Tbh I wish I always played on a time limit, I would be amazingly rich id i didn't play as much.

I waste time then try to rush exp tbh, time limit or not, I don't really treat it that way. It's not like homework where I will get shouted at/given shame if i don't turn it in, or doing well on a test.

I don't like to limit my time. I stop playing when I feel like I have had enough. I don't set specific goals, but I do like to make decent money/gain a few levels each time I log on.

"Oh, I want to finish this goal x in x amount of time, so I'll do x amount of it today... No, nevermind... I'll do more tomorrow. Wait, screw this; I'm not going to do this."

In runescape yes I'm not sure why but I always try to reach the date I set even ifI have to skip something or turn off my chats and such.

yes, because it adds a little competition.

If a game feels like work, it has become an oxymoron. Whenever I am faced with such a feeling, I usually start playing Starcraft.

My motivation to stay on task fluctuates depending on many things time limit or otherwise...

 

 

 

However, to answer the question directly, I do not believe in time limits. I have taken my time on 99 mining for close to 2 years now. Right now I predict with my current spurt of motivation I may achieve it in 1-2 months time. That is not pushing me however to reach it to that point in that exact amount of time. Afterall, rushing through goals can get dull and boring afterwhile. Sometimes savoring in progress makes the journey to achieving a goal more worthwhile...for me at least :oops:.

normally i do, like when i was going for 60 minning i said id get a minning lvl each day, and i did so :D

Here is my schdule and if i dont do them in time i would go crazy and probably would alch my party hat:

 

1:00 P.M: Training Defence

 

3:00 P.M: Visit G.E for supplies

 

3:05 P.M: Alching yew longs

 

4:00 P.M: Training my range

 

6:00 P.M: Fishing Sharks at the guild

 

8:00 P.M: Spending quailty time with my friends at Varrock Sq.

 

10:00 P.M: Go to sleep repeat tomorrow.

I achieve a lot more if I set myself a time limit, but I think it defeats the purpose of playing a game for fun if it becomes nothing but just complete grind as a result of imposing multiple said limits on yourself.

OK so maybe I didn't mean it like that. What I should say is Do YoU Achieve More On A Time Limit. Thanks for all the replies! And even though RS is a game, it can't always be fun - especially if you're going for something, like 80 Melee's. The fun comes at the end when you realise - "Hey, I'm actually pretty strong now!". At least, for me, the fun is in the achieving of the goals. I like to see how hard I can push myself, but I do do things for fun (read: buying 5 dragon implings). I tried setting daily limits on goals before, e.g "I'll catch 1.5k chins per day..". They didn't work, for the first day or so, maybe. But then after a while it just gets extremely boring and annoying and then I usually forget about the skill for months. =D>

Normally my answer would have to be no, since I know I actually have more time than I have allotted myself.

 

 

 

However, if it was your case, like knowing membership was going to run out, then of course I would achieve stuff quicker/work better.

 

 

 

The only time I worked better on a time limit was when I was racing a friend of mine to 99 crafting. I made myself stay up until 4 in the morning one day, turned off private chat to make him think I was gone, just to make sure he couldn't get ahead while I was sleeping.

 

 

 

Yeah, that's something I'll never do again. If I hadn't become obsessed it would have been pretty cool.

i agree though that when u have all day your more likely to slack then when u only have the amount of time it will take to get the level at near max.

 

 

 

like 91 rc i had 6hrs that day at near max speed and got it.

 

 

 

when i time myself runecrafting i go twice as fast as when im just rcing like chill.

I dont work on a time limit, more on what level i want to reach, that way i can take as much time as i like doing a skill and not feel bad if i get sidetracked :

Yes, on June 1 2007, I was 88 Slayer when I read the behind the scenes and I instantly knew what I would be doing. I figured the earliest the Bow could come out was June 11, so I put in 8-10 hour shifts of Slayer a day. Got to 90 3 days early, then no lifed Beasts when the Bow came out.
