A new rare already? And Jagex hasn't done anything?

I'm sure as all of you are aware, Jagex will be removing some random events sometime next week. I don't know what it is, but the one item that has had tremendous response to this is a broken pickaxe - specifically the rune one.

Since Jagex has stated this, the price of the broken rune pickaxe has doubled and a half - that is, sky-rocketed a huge 150%.

I started mining... breaking my pickaxes at any opportunity. I just sold 2 of these things for 45k each That's a profit of 26k per pickaxe, just for getting a little mining experience in a busy world. As a side note, I've decided I'm not going to sell all of them. I'll keep 4 through next week- 1 in the bank, 1 in my inv, 1 noted in my inv, and 1 wielded. I figure if Jagex fixes all of them I'll just have to alch the 3 I don't need - but if Jagex misses one with their code, I'll have a rare. I suggest everyone else tries something similar.

Up to this point this topic has no discussion value - so I'll give the thread a point. Why hasn't Jagex capped the price of Broken Pickaxes (rune) if they're planning on removing them anyway? I can imagine the spam of rants after this - "I bought 52 broken picks and lost 1.3 mil when Jagex fixed them all" Better yet, Jagex should have made them untradable.

Players cant be babies.

They have done this before. When something was removed, the item was too.

Seeing as your making this post, people obviously know Jagex doesnt want a new rare. So if people are too dumb to buy them then thats their fault.

they could just make it untradeable.

I think all broken pickaxes become normal pickaxes.

Just sell the ones you have and profit from it. People really dont think highly of Jagex if they assume they wont notice and just create rare items, despite lots of problem going "OMG BUY BROKEN PICKS THEYLL BECOME RARES" ingame and on the forums. I mean come on, you cant expect people to make a mistake when they are constantly being reminded of why they shouldnt and how to avoid it.

New rare...

I didn't realize you had the power to end threads. Well, its not working very well in any case.

Anyways this is the REAL quote from BTS:

...and over again.

Some random events will be removed from the game. Poison-gas chests, smoking rocks, broken pickaxes and ents will become things of the past. The Drunken Dwarf will be retired as a random event, but he'll still be free to roam the world, handing out kebabs to his mateys. You'll still be able to obtain shade robes, strange fruit and security books; we do not intend to discontinue any existing rewards.

Other improvements include allowing...

As you can see its the same paragraph that was in the post, but the last two lines were merely the player mods own words. I realize that the player mod's word is a lot more credible than others, but it IS just a player mod, not a Jagex mod. So we can't accept anything they say as a matter of fact.

That said, I don't believe Jagex will ever make another rare, and that they'll either automatically fix or remove all broken pickaxes.

I think all broken pickaxes become normal pickaxes.

Didn't they say all the broken ones would fix themselves?

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

Lol, last week I was purposefully breaking d axes. People where like, "OMG NO." Made 1.2 mil that day with some decent wc xp. :)

A J mod said that they wouldn't be left, and Ps'ed, and we wont forget the noted ones this time.

Thanks to cowboy14 for the pimp sig!

I see no reason why jagex would forget to deal with this, the only reason they are jumping in price is merchants hoping the loss of 50k at most will make them millions.

That's what I was talking about, I wasn't even looking at the last two lines until I started to crop it. I just happened to search the RSOF and found that thread, so I thought I'd post it here.

EDIT: And I'm pretty sure that by 'removed' s/he meant the item would be removed, but that doesn't necessarily mean deleted, it probably means just fixed.

its the merchants taking advantage of noobs. the noobs believe that broken picks will become rares. jagex isnt that dumb, and merchants are buying them out and selling again and then the noobs will lose money. this is y merchants r d-bags...taking advantage of someone elses stupidity isnt nice...

naw. it is.

someone in the forsaken cc said that the merchants new item is broken picks, to take advantage of the idiots who think it will become a rare. its also probably people who think ill become a rare and buying for max. yesterday i broke my pick, and i sold it for max. as soon as i hit "confirm", it sold.

I dont think many people are that anxious to go out and break some pickaxes hoping to break money. If a lot of merchants are trying to buy at max, they will deplete the stock and shoot the price up like this.

They should have fixed them all first automatically, and then removed the ability for them to break.

Pasty.png

I bet all the j mods are having a good laugh about this whole broken pic situation. I'm positive that they won't create a new rare, and if they accidentally do it will be promptly fixed. I'm not happy about the merchants that exploit the stupid, but that's just the way the world works. People are stupid/do stupid things, and others exploit them.

This's exactly what they'll do. They did the same with axes when they removed the random that allowed the heads to fly off.

Expect the people that've paid extra to be losing money.

They're not going to make the mistake of leaving a discontinued item in the game.

Pretty interesting find... at least everyone can make some money off of the stupid people right now.

josh181830.png

Never underestimate how stupid people can get. :wall:

I recall seeing a post by Mod Ash stating that like axes, all headless pickaxe handles would vanish, heads would grow handles, and all broken axes would be repaired for free. It was also mentioned they would have all GE offers on broken and headless pickaxes and axes aborted and any completed ones would give the repaired pickaxe/axe rather than a broken version. Also, they would remember to hit the bank notes the first time around.

Sadly, I cannot find that post by Mod Ash again, I think it fell off page 50 already.

As for the people that thinks they will be a new rare, let them think that, sell your broken stuff and laugh when they lose their money come next week.

They have been warned.
