Catching illegal immigrants from your computer chair.

That's the entire point. If illegal immigrants or drug dealers knew where the cameras were pointing, they would be able to use this new technology to get through unnoticed.

Too late.

My only reservation is: how do we know these areas are what they say they are?

The only way they would know where the cameras are looking is if they'd personally walk around the border and take pictures, in which case they'll probably be arrested.

Whats stopping them from going to the website and knowing the areas? Hell It wouldn't be hard to know the area and shoot/blow up the camera.

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."

Abraham Lincoln

I think the entire idea is pretty clever - and pretty funny too.

At least five helicopters fly that particular border and I'm sure if a camera went out they'd be on it like a ton of bricks. There's very little in the wastes for people to get away on and settlements are heavily patrolled.

Then again, these cameras only select high risk areas where things are being "staked out." They in no way cover the entire border region and there are lots of blind spots. The cameras are only there to 1) provide awareness and 2) deal with high risk areas used for drug and slave trafficking.

Taken from the article:

After a long haul behind the wheel of a Peterbilt tractor-trailer, he comes home, sets his 6-foot-6-inch, 250-pound frame in front of his computer, pops a Red Bull, turns on some Black Sabbath or Steppenwolf, logs in to http://www.blueservo.net and starts protecting his country.

Oh yes. That's going to be border control from now on.

Couldn't Mexican drug smugglers check the cameras to see if there were any patrol agents?

If I knew where the cameras were (as an agent) I probably would be in the air or in a blind spot :P.

They should attach speakers to stands along the border so people monitoring can yell at drug smugglers. Or play Ride of the Valkyries.

Lol. this sorta sucks ,cause if you caught an immigrant, 5000 others did to. BUT. it IS fun.

I like it.

My friend's dad is a border patrol agent (funnily enough, his grandparents were illegal immigrants from, I think, Guatemala), and he says they recently busted a heroin ferrying operation near Laredo with this thing's help.

That's pretty cool, eh?

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

That's actually a really good idea

Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3

Interesting, I signed up.

To be honest, the more I read his reply the more confused I get. I'll have to let dsavi clarify what he was saying.

What I mean is that the people trying to stop the immigrants aren't the only ones watching. There are people that use the network of cameras to check to see that the coast is clear. By "Unfortunately or not", I mean that it's unfortunate if you are against illegal immigration and not if you're for it for whatever reason.

I see now. Good point. The "unfortunately or not" comment just threw me off.

On balance I think it's much better to have this in place than not, though. If you could get enough people watching, there would probably be more caught than let though. If nothing else, it would make illegal activity more difficult.

"If you see movement from the right to the left please report this activity."

Busting drug smugglers doesn't sound like such a bad idea, that I would support.

Well, maybe some mexicans would come by, and you'd alert the border patrol, and you'd get to see mexicans beaten?

This seems borderline racist to me. You're not contributing much to the general problem of illegal immigrants - you're just getting individuals in trouble.
