Study: "White People Avoid Race Topics"

it's the world we live in, seems impossible to be racist to white people, but racism against other races..well another story (steps away from topic, before i get in trouble with mods or police :? )

It is called a double standard, and like political correctness, it needs to frickin stop.

And if a race topic starts up, I will join in, and if i get called racist, its the price I have t pay.

This. People seem to think that only whites can be racist. If a white person said "I hate all of the black people at that table. They're such jerks." They'd get jumped on for being racist but it's OK for a black/native/asian/etc to say that. -.- Honestly, the most racism I've come across has been against whites, not with(?) them.

exactly why white people keep out of race topics, this is why I hate double standards and political correctness :wall:

/thread tbh

You only live twice. Once when you are born and once when you look death in the face.

Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity...

DAMN IT! We never win!!

We had a discussion in US History about race, about blacks calling other blacks "Uncle Toms" because they act white or whatever. There's also this huge racial conflict going on at my school because some neo-nazi wannabe wrote in the boy's bathroom that "all [racist term]s die 2/20/09." We had a lot of security and police officers that day, along with hall sweeps and searches every period. Anyway, we also had some idiot write a threat on a teacher's door, which brought an FBI detective to our school. I love the South.

I, too, think it's ridiculous to stay so caught up in racial differences. I think it's funny that people try so hard to not sound prejudiced, and they get really nervous around other races, blacks in particular. It's a lot easier to just act indifferent to how people see you and relate to the other individual as a normal person, rather than someone you're afraid of offending.

Funny thing is me and my dad were just talking about this very thing last night. And he told me a story (a true one) that perfectly shows how it is.

(for reference, all four of us are white)

My dad's girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend (her boyfriend at the time) were at walmart in the alcohol isle. Well a black guy comes down the isle and stands just a few inches form her and it made her extremely uncomfortable. She grabbed her boyfriends arm at this and he began to eye the guy, so he saw the guy take a bottle of wine and shove it into his jacket. The boyfriend proceeded to follow the guy and saw him walk pass the registers and just about to go out the doors, so he yelled out, "There is a guy trying to steal some wine over here!" and the closest register was manned by a black woman and she said "your just saying that because he is black!" to which the guy replied "he has wine in his jacket pocket!" and the girl then said, "well maybe he plans to pay for it!" to which the guy yelled, "he is the damn parking lot!, what ever, its your store not mine". Well luckily somebody else who worked there overheard them went and called the cops and stopped the guy stealing the wine.

It's this kind of BS that makes us avoid race topics.

Also me and my friend talked about this the other day too, teacher asked us to write down five life truths, the one i put that got us on the topic was "minorites are racist."

One example i put for this is that United Negro College Fund and other black college schollarships and such. Now if i tried to start an all white scholarship foundation i would have so many people up my arse about me being racist i could become my own country. But god forbid if we tried to stop a minority from establishing a college fund its violation of their rights and if its me its racist.

That would have more to do with the fact that black people are proportionately under-represented in US colleges compared to their white counterparts, which in turn has a lot to do with the disproportionate rate of black Americans who are below the poverty line and therefore can't afford to pay for college. White people make up the majority at US colleges (with one or two exceptions) so there is no balance to readdress for white people.

Then make it the "College Fund for the Finacily (sp) Challenged" , don't make it racial biased.

My family heritage is Pom, so I'm as white as a ghost. I admit before I went to university I quite often avoided the topic of race. Now that I've gone through multi-cultural psychology and lived in the largest Aboriginal population it's a lot easier to speak of race. I still avoid it though, there's no real point in talking about it when I can think of better things to talk about.

I guess white people are still seen as the masters and oppressors.

Reminds me of another study regarding the British accent--

Several prompts were read in different accents, and for every prompt, people believed the one read with a British lilt sounded most intelligent.

Quite odd. It might work in reverse as well-- I've had some people ask if I've ever been to an English school because they had some reason to believe I was intelligent.

Hell, they once ruled most of the world, so I guess the impression would last.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."

Really that is because most people associate a British accent with the Victorian era filled with all the wealth and sitting parlors and such. Now if they associated craziness or something else with the British, a British accent would have the same effect as a redneck accent.

I think pretty much all my high school cliques are really stupid ideas - rednecks, preps, emos/goths, hardcores, and "gangstas" yet my dislike for people trying to sound as stupid as possible (ghetto speak which is spoken by white people too as a matter of fact) is confused with racism. The reason I try to stray away from the topic is because it's a battle you can never win.

White people, even children as young as 10, avoid talking about race because any opinion may appear prejudiced, according to new research, but that approach often backfires as blacks tend to view that approach as evidence of prejudice, especially when race is clearly relevant.

I'm not surprised considering how touchy some black people are. In some places It's got to the point where they will call racism on almost any word or phrase without even knowing what racism means. It's a nice little cop-out when someone criticises their opinions, attitudes or actions.

People should learn what the word means before using it, because it really is a heavy charge to lay on someone.

I don't really bother about it. If someone ever shouts "That's racist!" in my face, I just reply that that's like saying that black people tend to have darker is racist. Not that all racism is like that, just the things I say.

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Sometimes I get so furious I wish slavery still existed in America because some black people think they're second to God. I say they're Malcom X fans but they say Martin Luther King. -.-

But what pisses me off the most, is that apparently, the media and everybody can make fun of all the Mexicans and of Hispanic origin by saying we all eat tacos and love tacos and bathe in taco sauce and stuff (Prime exaple, the Beverly Hills Chiwawa movie) yet, if I say *one* think about a black with chicken or a grass hut, I'll get shot down for it.

A white man says "[bleep] the blacks" he gets more attention than a black murdering three white men for being white. But we most not forget the whites on their Nazi Warhorse thinking its "funny" being a Nazi. Then an illegal Mexican thinks he can stroll up in this country like its his.

Beaners think they're all high and mighty, crackers think its funny being Nazis, and black people think they're gods. -.- What the hells wrong with society today?

EDIT: Tip.It, you might as well censor "beaner" and "cracker" as well.

I say mexican, and people get so offended by it. I also use the word cracker. I figure if blacks can call other blacks the N word and it still be ok, and mexicans can call other mexicans mexican and it still be ok, then it should work the same for whites and cracker.

Unless theres some kind of third party thing going on :P Relax though, "Beverly Hills Chiwawa" was obviously made by idiots, and does not represent the media in any way :P

Well, I guess the media sucks pretty bad too, for racism...

on the 2nd bolded set of words, remember who the victims of the nazis were, and what color they were? :o

Me and my friends joke to each other about racism specifically cause it's stupid. My one friend is one quarter jamaican, and one of my others is as white as can be. I myself am a quarter native and three quarters white. When we joke around with that, we dont take offense, we just lulz it over, and gets on with our daily life a little happier.

Its actually pretty hard to find racist people around my age these days. My friends and I say racist things all the time but we don't mean them and we are only joking. No one I hang out with takes offense to people saying racist things because they know it is just a joke and it usually is funny. If someone actually means something racist that they say then my friends and I just shrug it off because it offends us as much as the word "noob".

P.S. I'm white and the friends I'm talking about include 2 Mexicans, 3 Asians and 1 black.

There's a group of black kids call me cracker all the time. I called one of them a [racist term] once, just to show them that what they were saying was the same as saying [racist term].

They got angry, didn't understand what I was saying, and hit me.

everyone in my school calls everyone else a dirty mexican. I don't think we have any actual latino kids in the school.

People call other kids dirty jews alot too. Don't think that's racism though. Bigotry?

on the 2nd bolded set of words, remember who the victims of the nazis were, and what color they were? :o

Prime example because its the most recent I can think of and it was PG. This whole "taco" thing has been there long before that film. Which is nothing bad, I really don't care if somebody says my favourate food has to be tacos because I'm "Mexican" (Which I'm not really Mexican, but people assume that because I'm Mexican-looking. Doesn't bother me though). But what does bother me is the double standards on blacks. Make a "Compton Bulldog" movie and let the main character say "Grab your kool aid" and see how many people would complain.

The victims of the Nazis were all colours save Protestant Aryans. But I've seen lots of white folk, some not of Germanic decent, do the Nazi salute to their other white friends thinking its funny.

I don't hold back on "racism" topics or discussions. It's ridiculous how we fear talking about this type of thing.

And I swear Tip.It, if you're going to change nig*ers I want you to change beaners and crackers too!

EDIT: Aryans = Hack site???
