Does regular life seem mind numbingly dull for you guys too?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, been awhile since I posted. I revisited these forums quite a few times and started writing a thread, but then stopped and deleted it halfway though.

Needless side track aside, I keep wondering about something during my many mind numbing nights spent studying. Am I the only one who finds ordinary life just awkwardly dull?

Do you guys leave an action movie feeling a bit more sharp? Maybe drive your car up an on ramp a little more aggressively? Pull out your cellphone to check something and have a glimmer of a fantasy where its actually super high tech and you're doing something totally badass? Isn't it hard to finish watching a two hour long action movie with guns, hot women, leer jets, and arms dealers.... and then get up and start doing history homework that you need to do to get your degree and become a geologist or something even less as exciting? I mean, christ, I'm a med student whose "homework" consists of studying Ebola outbreaks and gunshot wounds and even I think my field of study is, in the end, boring and not even a 1% as exciting as what we see in movies.

So what do you do about it? This is a question I'm actually asking by the way, its not one of my rhetoricals ^_^

I mean, I imagine some of us play paintball, others go camping and live in the woods... but what about the rest of us? Do you guys really not yearn for something more exciting than video games and women? Personally, as some of you no doubt can guess from my senior prank, etc posts; my hobby pretty much is doing things that aren't exactly legal, but nothing that destructive. For those of you who don't know me, these things usually consist of lockpicks, teams of 4-5 friends, radios, and areas of building most people never pay attention to. Just last week for example I was half asleep on my textbook at 2am and my roommate walks up to me "i want a muffin..." There are muffins in the fridge, I reply only to hear "yea... but I want a blueberry muffin... like the ones in the Cafeteria...". Long story short, 45 minutes later and after driving two miles, then avoiding 3 campus safety patrols, getting through about 12 locked doors, down two maintenance shafts, and through a few tunnels not meant for students, I turn to look at my smiling roommate chomping on a blueberry muffin sitting on a crate in the cafeteria's room sized refrigerator. Ever been in a room sized refrigerator? They're pretty sweet.

I know I need to kick this risky hobby but wonder how I ever will be able to as I turn on my PDA, then use the stylus with my gloved hand to double check the maps and plan our way our of here. Thats something they don't show you in movies by the way, getting in is always challenging and hard, but for every lock you pick or tunnel you run through... that just means one more lock to pick and tunnel to run though on the way out, and its not nearly as exciting on the way out. Still though, the one night or so every 50 days that I spend "out there" is exciting enough to make my smile for the other 50 or so boring days of my life until the next "run". See this is why I'm wondering what other people do after watching an action movie and then going back to everyday life. Some of us paintball, some of us try hacking, and some of us take things a little more extreme... but what do the rest of you guys do?

trapical post yay! Yeah, life is dull, but it really doesn't get more exciting, which is disappointing.

Even the army doesn't have that thrill of an action movie, because you have to follow orders. Most of the time, those orders involve sitting around doing nothing.

Yeah, regular life is very dull. On the occasion when I get to spend a weekend with my friends rock climbing or just hanging out, it's fun. Five days a week when I go to school, run in track, and spend 3 hours on homework, it's not. I love action movies, and even reading the story about the muffin made me want to go do something exciting. But, I need to sleep and work on a project tomorrow so eventually I can get a good job and spend the rest of my life earning money to try to get my kids an education and a good job.

Life seems a bit pointless sometimes, but the fun stuff is worth it.

Frankly I'm bored with life at the moment. There is not much for me to do around my house, and I don't do many activities anywhere. I basically cycle from school to home to work most days.

Eh, life sucks. There's nothing to really do nowadays anyway.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Hmm, I understand why people always talk about your posts. It's always nice to see something very well thought out, rather than a news thread or something.

This seems to me more of a "What's the meaning of life?" sort of thing. And I doubt anyone can come up with a really good point for this. I personally find history pretty dull, and wouldn't be so much more exciting if we had a history like, Runescape's, for instance?

I think life is good, but if everything was really exciting, we would just take it all for granted, and never really appreciate anything worth appreciating.

Ever been arrested?

I don't think that's a very good adventure.

1. Get arrested.

2. Go to jail.

3. Get reped by Bubba.

4. Get shanked to death.

What an adventure.

Hm, life is very boring for me at the moment.

Not much to do, nothing new anymore. Band last year was fun, but this year it just went downhill...

Seems like all the things I found fun left.

My life is pretty much playing bass, doing homework, listening to music, studying, and a bunch of other boring stuff.

I really need to find something fun to do. I used to vandalize stuff, but that got boring, and I didn't want to take the risk of juvie.

Thinking about stuff like this makes me want to break as many laws as I can, so I try not to think about it much.

yeah, life is boring, i suppose it has a lot to do with growing up. in highschool, i had something different to do every single day after school, even school i made to be a different experience as much as i could. then i moved up to wisconsin, got a job, which i've not had for 2 months now, and been sitting on my [wagon], now i'm about to get another job, so i can work all the time and make money i need to support myself. there is no adventure, there is little excitement.

I love my life. Sure it may not be an action-packed thriller movie lifestyle or whatever, which would probably seem entertaining to most of you guys. But my boyfriend makes me happier than I've ever been in my entire life, and it's hard to see life as dull when you're that happy. Personally, I think that if we did have that high-tech or adventurous stuff that you were talking about, then life would still be dull. I mean if you think back decades ago or hundreds of years ago, people would probably look at our lifestyle with all our high tech computers and televisions or whatever, and think that THAT would be exciting. But if we had those thriller lifestyles and lived each day like that, I'm sure the novelty would wear off pretty quickly.

Oh and I will agree that high school "busy work" is dull though :P

Life is boring. Make s--- happen. Then life won't be boring. But sometimes we like to wait for things to happen. Like me. Othertimes, I ask myself what would happen if I did something. I rode my bike to school once in the snow, and it was bumpy as hell when I had to ride in the uncleaned sidewalks with all the footprints in it near the public streets. I kept thinking a car would veer off the road and plow head on right into me. :?

Meh. It's getting late and I haven't eaten anything in 6 hours, so if my post seems bland... I just got an uncut sapphire drop off a Cockroach Soldier.

Life is boring, especially when you're waiting on something that won't come for a few days, weeks, or years even...

I try to explore the world around me. My new hobby pretty much (starting this Monday) is to try and go down every street, every alleyway, see as many buildings as possible, and search every forest in my city (I don't start college till September and work only weekends usually, I have time to kill). I think life is boring not really with a lack of action, but with a lack of either education (I'm not talking book education, although that can work too), or exploration. It's cool when something exciting happens action-wise, but trying to find new locations, see and learn things I didn't know before, those kinds of things make my life no longer dull as long as I do it on a regular basis.

At times life can be dull but not ever moment can always be exciting too. I find life to be more dull when I'm not sharing moments of my it with other people because every moment that I would consider dull would be when I'm not spending it with the people closest to me. I just can't do the whole "Lone wolf" in real life it just doesn't work well with me. I also chose to study film instead of chemistry because I knew if I did I would end up living a very "dull" life living out a lab probably for the rest of my life.

Erm... it's good that you stopped vandalising, but you just stopped because of the possible consequences? That's the only reason?

Vandalizing is fun. I have to admit. I am not promoting it but (don't do it, it can be annoying to others who you harm) it can be fun.

Its more of just the thrill of Adventure when you grafitti, marking your artwork in a different way rather then painting a canvas, or making clothing. I personally wanna learn howto design grafitti properly, not your lame permenant markers and labeling a telegraph pole with the area code of your location (lame-arse gangstas...) but the art itself and even make a good use out of it.
