This beast will be used for more than just sums. It will be my PDA of sorts... I can take notes, graph diagrams, use it as a planner, use it as a text editor, etc.. The possibilites are endless. Btw the TI-83 was 109 dollars so the TI-89 just seemed like the better choice.

Anyway does anybody know some good apps?

I have no idea, but my friend Google might know...

Anyway, I could think of a few ways I'd rather spend the extra money, the TI-83 I got four years ago still works fine for me...

Here TI-89s are banned from high school (maybe even some college) math courses, because they are too powerful  I just have an 83 Plus.

Same.

I actually discussed this in the "cheating topic" that most schools won't allow you to use it. The AP test does not allow the 89s either. It's nice, but just does everything for you almost.

Haha, if you have the time like I had, you can cheat with a TI-83 too. :P

I got the TI-84+ Silver Edition last year.. I love it..

As for apps/programs, the best and really only place I know of is ticalc.org. :)

I have a TI-84+ too :). Got the other week, my sister is taking our 83+ plus and my mom noticed it was tax free weekend so just bought this one.

I can finally graph inequalities :)...too bad i didn't have this last year.

I'd like to get some games on my calc to play in between classes or while waiting for the bus etc, once I find out how. I wouldn't play them during class though- last semester in physics, there were always 2-5 people playing games the entire class. While trying to listen to the teacher you here this rapid tapping of the buttons the whole time.. It's very annoying, but the teacher seems to be oblivious to it.

I believe that in Havo and Vwo (our school system) you must have one of those, so it isn't really special, if you ask me. :P I don't know where you can get all the stuff though. But they're pretty cool, you can play games on them etc.

How to get games on your TI:

1. Download TI Connect

2. Update your TI with the latest OS and Bios

3. Download a game (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/89/basic/)

4. Once you have the game saved to your desktop drag and drop it on the TI Connect Icon

5. Once the game as been installed open up the command line on your TI and type the full name of the game and press enter.

ok I put tetris on it... thats like 2 minutes of fun.

blasphomey! may the tetris gods have mercy on your soul.

tetris is freaking awesome. ive been playing that for like 50 years now, ive played it about 2 billion times. i love tetris. other people used to watch me play it during computer class, doing wierd things that you normally dont think of doing, and just holding the down button during the first few levels while flipping the pieces around. make sure you get a tetris where the down button just makes it go down faster, not instantly. that can screw you up bad.

Holy cabbage. You guys are all freaking nerds.

Heh how nice of you. It's a lot easier to play games in class then sleep so I generally resort to getting some fif games on my calc.
