patrick2503
Strange thing is that with a few million accounts created since classic you would think it wouldn't happen too much and a lot more people wouldn't give the current players slack for playing. zeety
I have used the same reasoning you did. But in my case it was "RS keeps me off the streets and out of trouble." Now, I don't go out looking for trouble, nor do I engage in risky behavior. But I have been known to stay a little too long at the pub, and in my neighborhood trouble has a way of finding me...wrong place-wrong time kinda thing. And RS is a waste of time only to the extent that playing cards or a board game with your friends is; it's just as much a social activity as anything else. Some people are having difficulty grasping this internet world we live in, I'd say they are the ones who think playing an MMO is taboo. There are also gamers who don't like the role play, turn based genre that is RS and who bad mouth the game. That's ok, there are plenty of games for everyone's style. RS is not for everyone but all in all it has more going for it than any game I've played.
Animaslayer
I don't see it as a bad thing sure I WAS hugely addicted and thought rs > life but i was about 10/11 and I'm nearly 14 now and have grown out of that. Some people at school I know play RS and I get a bit of stick about but. But what I say is. I play RS. You play Halo. There both a game, what the problem? Dragon Drops: Platelegs x9, Med Helms x7, Plateskirts x4, Shield Left Half x3, At least 75+ Boots!, Hatchets x5, Ruined Shard x1, Solo Claws x2, Dragon 2Hander x1, Spear x2Whip x27, Dark Bows x9, Draconic Visage x1 <- do that when you see me :P
Chaise
Talking about RS in real life is definitely something I stray away from. Even though I am probably the best player out of the group of friends I have irl that play, whenever they talk about it around people that don't play/I know dislike it, I tend to switch topics. I like the game and all, but it is really nerdy and kinda wimpy considering one could be out playing sports, hanging with friends, etc. calling it a taboo really isn't accurate for me. I just don't like talking about RS outside of the game itself or in mIRC. ~~Chaise91~~
Star_Fox
i really am sick of these threads. out of 300 million people living in my country, you'll hardly meet anyone that has experienced a bad reputation about runescape. i talk about runescape in real life. no one has came up to me and told me runescape was bad. nor did i see anyone too scared too talk about runescape out loud. i don't get why some of you are refraining from expressing yourselves of your devotion to playing a computer game. its really not that hard. if you ARE getting picked from left to right because you play a game you enjoy, then your societys [bleep]ed up IMO. wakka102
I totally agree, this game kept me out of ALOT more trouble. Not to say that I haven't gotten into trouble but it would have been worse if I was out partying every single weekend.
Skull
I don't talk about it, if someone found out I wouldn't care all that much. I probably don't play more than 10 hours a week and now with track that will easily be halved. It's just a way for me to kill time. Your Grandpa
I think playing Runescape is embarrassing for many people, if just because it isn't a very widely accepted game, especially amongst older audiences. Myself, I don't emphasize the fact that I play Runescape, but if somebody asks me, I'll tell them that I play.
Bearded Phil
I dont really care that people know that I play since all my room mates know and a few of my friends that come over sometimes when I'm playing or have the log in screen up or something, I just don't try to talk to them about it because I know it's only really interesting to me. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I've been to the Crunch once... Central_Keeper
Well, it would be nice if I could talked to someone about RS in real life, but for the most part, people that I know stopped playing long time ago. The one knows I am playing more or less semi joked about it once in a while, but never really go overboard with insults. I guess that type of things is more prevalent in school. Bear in mind that I am in my mid 20s now, so it's really hard to find people that's interested in RS, and even if I tell them what it is, they still not know what it is. Tbh, the definition itself is vague to put it at best. You can do other things beside RS that could consider waste of time if you play it too much. I remember that before I got into RS, I would play other games for hours on end (even if its demo copy, now that's saying something, so far I am the only one I know that play NFS 2 demo for at least 4 hours per day straight when I really have nothing else to do, and all it has is one demo track). It wouldn't be consider productive since you are not making your "materialistic" life better. Examples would be like studying, earning money with part time jobs, or volunteering for your community. Overall, as people grow older, then spend portions of their life doing different kind of things, and its all upon their own choices. I won't really bother to look another person oddly if they train their character for hours on end. Granted, they could do better things to enrich their life, but I am not in the position to tell them what to do either. In conclusion, how you want to spend your time is totally up to you, there isn't a right or wrong answer, and anything that you choose to do reflect in the consequences of your action. So final piece of advice here, time management is the key. You can bake the cake and eat it too if you know what you are doing. a happy Runescaper
Asmodeous4
My friends used to play, but all have gone to Xbox Live or PS3's, none of which I have. They don't know I still play and I hope it remains that way. I would get no end of crap from them. patrick2503
Some good replies there. Just for reference - I joined these forums a while ago but I only just started making posts and looking at other topics that aren't Drops/Levels etc only in the last month or so. So, if other people have posted something like this previously then I'm sorry but I havn't seen one. If your 'tired of reading about this sort of stuff' then please don't make a big deal about it here. Thanks. ilya
You have no idea how many topics have been created about this over the last 3 years. No less then 15, but there were certainly more :) And Runescape was my dirty little secret. No one knows and I'd like to keep it that way.
Gandorf61
I would have to say I'm addicted but in a way that is not taking over my real life in any way. I sometimes play 3-5 hours a day (Usually only around 2) but it doesn't take over my real life. I just seem to have a lot of spare time and there is nothing else I'd rather do except play RS. I don't even talk to people about it at school unless they bring it up first. I have a couple of real life friends who play and they are the same as me. I'm getting high marks in all my classes and I'm hanging out with my real life friends every weekend. It's just all my spare time that's wasted playing RS. : Pyramid Plunder Guide Tip.it Forum Rules Adventurer's LogThanks to Cowboy14 for the awesome sig! Peronix
Most of my friends know I play, but I don't talk about it simply because they don't play and wouldn't be interested in anything I'm talking about. It's just one of those things I do on my free time that I keep to myself.
nurserymaid
Some of my RL friends play RS so with them at least there's no problem. I don't watch TV and I suppose that RS takes up the time that other people would spend watching TV. I still have time for work, playing/practising 3 musical instruments and an offline social life. There have been discussions about some updates in the pub (wildy/pking going for example), other people might roll their eyes but they soon resume their discussions about Big Brother or Corrie and we roll ours. ;) Chacun à son goût. hihihi727
Yeah its pretty addicting like right now im trying to do Freminnik isles :wall: (i know im a noob) but i often get bored of trying to get 85 mining or whatever other boring goal i set and stop playing for 3+ months. Im sure if my parents let me there would be plenty of days where i would play over 2 hours
