Star_Fox
i was addicted when i first started at 13. i played until the game became a part of my life. whenever i got scammed, hacked, i would take it out on my friends for help, and my family to blame... it started going downhill at 16. i got good grades, maintained a steady life played runescape at a smaller scale. thankfully, i can actually control myself when i could play runescape. right now i haven't logged in for 4 days because of reading and work. SonicSilver
"You don't know RuneScape addiction. Last year, I was playing 8 hours a day on school days, with absolutely no exaggeration. I passed only 2 of my subjects." You don't know RuneScape addiction. This is what I have got my 'addiction' down to. I quit school just to play, my timer would sometimes go up to 16 hours a day on bad days when I decided to choose RuneScape over sleep.
Great_one
rs has probablt saved me thousands. without it i would have been playing xbox360 and going through a game a month at ~$40 a game, for a year and half. $100 for runescape with i like and can stick to or $600 or so for games that i would end up having sit on a shelf for the next 4 years. darkjakx
My brother accused me of being addicted to Runescape not too long ago. We made a bet that I wouldn't play for the whole month of march...so i've spent my time looking at these forums instead haha. I'm not addicted in my opinion. I play for how long I want, but I know how to organize my priorities decently well. (I'll admit that I was really lazy about practicing my instrument until now though.) It might seem like an addiction at some times though....like when I was trying to get 99 firemaking and I played for 6 hours a day...But I just wanted to finish the goal so I could stop. Wizz
Old thread is old. I don't quite understand. Loads of threads in the past have talked about this, so therefore Old thread is Old. You probably have not been around here that long but lots of threads of "Do you know anyone that plays Runescape?" or "Are you embarrassed to play Runescape?" has existed out here in Tip.it. I don't play Runescape that much anymore but I do surf the Forums from time to time, maybe a game of Trouble Brewing or Castle Wars here and there. Wongton is better than me in anyway~~
deathfish27
I understand the taboo thing, kinda. It's not so much of a problem where I live, but if you talk about runescape in front of the wrong people you'll get laughed at. The worst offender I know would be the local WoW fan. I get along with him on most subjects, but when we discuss gaming... What I don't get is that the only really negative thing he has to say about runescape is "The graphics suck." or something similar. Frankly, I don't care. I enjoy playing runescape in my free time, and the best thing about it (to me) is that it never seems to get old. I've been playing for (maybe) 3 years now, and it's still entertaining. Being completely honest, the only other game that can hold my interest that long and still have me coming back for more is pokemon...seriously, I'm not joking about that even one bit. Come to think of it, pokemon is even more taboo than runescape... The quest points in the stat pic above this message is wrong, disregard it.Yeah, everyone loves me! Illuminated
I think it's pretty taboo. Back when I first created my account, no one wanted to hear about it. People were pariahs immediately as soon as they mentioned they played RS. Certainly there are more productive things to do with my time, but it's a game, it's entertaining, so what's the problem? Michaael
The only people that know I play is my family. A lot of my friends who used to play make fun of the kids who openly say they play RS at our school, so I don't think I'll ever "confess" that I play. I don't really feel the need for everyone to know though So to answer the question, Runescape is a taboo. I think people should give the game a chance, but I won't be the one to bring that up ;) 5,693rd to 99 Slayer on 10/08/2009
toxxy
I think it's hilarious that openly playing Runescape is like coming out of the closet for some people. "I think it's time I finally come out with it. I play Runescape." You say and all you can hear is the sound of your mother crying and all you can see is the disappointed look on your father's face. patrick2503
People just naturally have irrational views on many things, just because their friends feel that way and they don't want to be left out. A prime example would be homosexuality. If you think about it, there's nothing wrong about it yet it's one of the biggest taboos in the world. A lot of people just don't want to be seen supporting gay rights. 100% agree with that and I infact *do* support gay rights and I know a few homosexuals although thats not exactly what this thread is about it does relate. @Dan3HitU
Personally i feel RS is a waste of time. And you'll now ask why i play it? Because i like playing it. Frank covered it for me. transcript80
Being a relatively "old" player, none of my friends play, or know that I'm playing. I will not "inform" them, for I think they don't care about computer games for the most part of them. Last month, I found out that my colleague's son (15) plays the game as well, which got me thinking....(kids game, right? I'm not a kid...by far!) but as long as I enjoy it, well, who cares. Same as the OP, my younger brother introduced me to the game, got me hooked and quit a few months later. Now he mocks me for still playing, but he is just pestering his older brother (as young brothers are supposed to do). My gf can get annoyed about how much time I spend playing, but I only play when I don't have to do any other stuff in our house (wash, cook, etc), have no sporting or musical activities, and no friend/relative social calls planned. I think the fact that I don't have anything close to a 99 illustrates that, after playing this game for about 4 years. Other data was removed when acoount got hacked... Returned3
Only 1 out of 10 of my friends actually play Runescape together and we do not openly admit it. The reason people complain that Runescape sukes is because: a) The graphics are not good enough for them B) They're playing some other cool game and wish not to transfer c) They can't be [bleeped] to train a new account fresh off the start as many other games enable "party" in which you can literally afk for hours and gain experience points. So in my opinion, Runescape is a game which really tests one's patience and determination. It is not a game for the impatient or dependant. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!
Teeg
Well I'm *cough*over21*cough*, and have a reasonable job. I choose to play RS because I enjoy it. I don't advertise the fact that I play an on-line game, but neither am I secretive about it, I talk about it if asked. I still have a social life, work, friends etc., and play RS as often as I want to play it. That's obviously not an addiction, but I would be bloody annoyed if I couldn't play anymore, for whatever reason. I never worry about what other people think, neither should you. Do your own thing, enjoy yourself. I thought Taboo meant prohibited, forbidden. I don't think RS is either of those, unless in your own mind! Ax600
i openly and proudly talk about RS. If anyones got something to say against me, i punch their a**es... jords
No one really cares in my school. Well no one has ever said anything about me playing it. Although I don't generally advertise that fact I play. But being the best at it in my school I do get every now and then a few people asking me what skills I been training recently. I know I'm not that good at the game in comparison to when my account was created to other useres. But all that shows is that I have never no lifed. Least not for more than a day ever few months. I never get any stick for playing the game. All my friends play online games, xbox live though, I find they never say anything about me playing it as I can easily say the same back about xbox live. Afterall it's still online games and still carries the same burdon of being indoors without real contact with humans. But if you play in moderation and find the right balance between freetime and friend time then is there really a problem? I think not.

It's not sad really, it is meant more as a joke (the sad part) but it is just my story of how this all came about. Sir_Kurity
People, after quitting runescape, like to make themselfs feel better by teasing others who still play, because of the amount of people who have played, and then subsequently quit, there are alot of people who like to tease people about it.
