Once thought unachievable capes now child's play?

Featured Replies

Ok, so we all know the rewards of the new minigame Soul Wars. If you don't, the link to the guide is here.

The two capes I'm talking about in general are of course, Slayer and Summoning. But not just that. I'm talking about the untrimmed versions of those capes. Soul Wars can give Slayer EXP or Summoning charms as rewards in exchange for zeal. And there's no minimum damage requirement to obtain zeal (like there is in Pest Control). Charms for Summoning are one thing, shards are another, yes I know that. But shards are buyable. All you need is charms, and Soul Wars can supply them. Any person can train a gathering skill and make money to buy charms, and they dont need 99 in that skill (usually Woodcutting or Fishing, as Mining is not profitable until a very high level) to make the money to buy shards. So basically, they can get charms from Soul Wars instead of killing monsters that drop them and increasing their other combat levels.

Unless JaGeX changes this, will we see more and more untrimmed Summoning and Slayer capes? It seems pretty easy to get these capes now with the spending of zeal. In fact, Mario_Sunny just spent 1k zeal on Strength (dumb move in my opinion, should've used it on Hitpoints) and leveled from 86 to 97. A 7.7M EXP gain. Just think, if a person no-lifed Soul Wars from the first time they logged in, they could definitely be very close to 99 Slayer or Summoning (assuming they spend their points on that). And they don't need to gain any EXP in their other combat skills. They can leech. So my discussion topic is, are untrimmed Slayer and Summoning capes going to be more and more common as time goes on?

Untrimmed slayer and summoning capes are a waste of time anyway.

Especially when standing around in soul wars for them.

Untrimmed Slayer capes gonna lose some respect, but that's all

I wouldn't really be too worried about those.

1) With the current xp ratios, slayer and summoning through SW is so slow that no one should really be worried about it. That gives skillers a chance to train slayer in somewhat sane way, but that's it. I haven't counted how long it takes to get from 1 to 99 slayer in SW, but it currently takes multiple times longer than normally.

2) Untrimmed slayer capes were gotten by people even before SW. There was at least few chars with them and more people were going for them. Those people wouldn't have saved any time if they had done it in SW. They would only have saved effort by having no need to count how to train in order to avoid the 99s.

3) If someone feels like wasting thousands of hours just to get an untrimmed cape, it's his own decicion. It's not away from you, me or anyone else who gets their cape, with or without the trim, the old fashioned way.

4) The game evolves all the time and comes easier and easier. Slayer for example is now a lot faster and easier than it was when it was released. We have now better weapons, armours, teleport methods, monsters and so on that have made it easier. However SW doesn't really make it easier, it just gives a new way of training it.

I'd personally say that untrimmed slayer and summon capes become more common in future but not only/mainly because of SW. I'd also like to mention that there's not too many people who are keen to get those as they are only status symbols which require more work than many other things that count as status symbols.

Besides, I bet sunny could have gotten that 7.7 mil str xp killing armored zombies or ghostly warriors faster with some drops than in the time it took to get 1000 zeal.

This is one of the reasons I quit RS. You don't even have to use the skill to train it. I was fine with PC (because then you had to sacrifice Slayer) but things are getting too far. I liked skills when they used to be a mean - not an end.

i'm going for untrimmed slayer without soul wars

personally i think using soul wars for it is a waste of time

20 minutes per game, and no drops?

absolute fail

i could easily get the same amount of slayer experience plus some nice drops training slayer normally

Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-

Don't see why they didn't put a 40 combat requirment on here anyways. But then again they would just have level 40's with untrim slay

I do like the idea of having to do atleast a total of 100 damage a game. OR an awesome idea would make the auto log out timer on this game 30 seconds.

In order for this system to actually become useful to level any skill, one has to have a decently high level in the skill to begin with. If someone were to just use Soul Wars to train a skill, they'd be there for a really, really, *really* long time.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

If you mean he used it from 5.3M strength experience, I'd say that was pretty bad strategy. With the best strength training method (piety at armored zombs with ss), he could have easily gotten 11.1M experience in 111 hours of gameplay.

This, and the Runecrafting guild are great updates for pure skillers.

At first, I didn't care much for RC guild. Boring game, slow xp, annoying teams (better on 50/50) and pouches that cost too much to fix.

But then, I thought of the skillers. These people could not do the Abyss, ZMI (well, they can, but 4x as slow) and Graahks. They could also not access pouches of any kind except small.

They were basically limited to how people approached RC like they did in early 2005. Unnoting at General store running back. In the meanwhile, the prices of the runes plummeted to people who could afford the other methods.

But with the guild, this changed, and they could get normal-rate XP.

This is no different. In the past, pure skillers had to use the XP lamps they got on the Slayer skill. How Soul in Pain got 66 Slayer doing that is beyond me. But now, with Penguins and Soul Wars, this has become more manageable.

So I'm in favour, though the combat xp values are way high. Sadly, I expect a nerf to come soon.

Your still better off doing what slayerbelle did for slayer, would do it faster than the really, really bad xp at soul wars.

I'm sure theres a faster way to level summoning as well, seriously, your complaining about nothing much.

O.O

Ya I hope to see new accounts made just to get the lowest combat level with untrimmed slay or summoning cape but it will be hard to make the money :) I have to look into this beacause I want to get 99 summoning and im 90 and I never knew this was an option

You are aware that Slayer plays a sizeable role in this game, right?

And it's only Charms for rewards, you still have to go out and get the shards, pouches and seconds.

All in all, SW is an alternative method of training, just not the best one.

the point is that getting those capes that way (at 6 zeals an hour) would take years if not decades to get, which pretty much equals impossible to me

/edit: ok i made a really rough estimate and id say it would take 3 years with 5 hours of soul wars EVERY day to get ONE cape, good luck with that

(i dont get these whining noobs about the exp rewards from soul wars btw, none of them has any of the capes anyway)

Exactly.

I'd hardly say it's "child's play". If someone is willing to no-life it for that long then they deserve it IMO.

I don't see what the problem is.

The seconds, pouches, and shards are easy to get; it's the charms that are a problem.

Not counting in the food and saying an average of 700 coins per ring and saying he went from 1 Slayer to 66 witht them, that'd accumulate to 12,407 Rings of Recoil used, at a cost of about 8.7M coins. Not counting in the cost of restorative items.
