Bouwzie
Outfits, there are many people who try to make one, and most likely, they will horribly fail and it will look bad. But what is the use of an outfit, and why would you have an oufit? People are even asking other people for outfit advice, and are willing to spent a big chunk of money on it, money that they could use for better armour, weapons, skills and other things that are actually useful. And when you say that it is a waste of time thinking of an outfit, and a waste of money buying an outfit, you get called a person that has no friends. Which makes no sense by the way. So, there is no use for an outfit. Or is there? People want to look cool so that they can get respect, respect in an online game. Most people don't even care about how you look, because when you wear a skillcape, you get "Wow, nice 99 [skill]", you get that multiple times a day (at least, with a respected skillcape). But how many time do you get "Wow, nice outfit"? Almost never. People don't care about your outfit, they are too busy playing the game to notice your fancy clothing. I'll tell you my "outfit" and it's uses: I wear a spottier cape, boots of lightness, an amulet of glory and a ring of duelling. That's it. I don't care how it looks, but it's cheap and very, very useful. Why would I get anything that is more expensive, and less useful? This makes it able to teleport to many places, and I can run longer than most people. So what is your opinion on oufits?
Sheep Tails
Apparently, you don't see the exact point of them. (In my opinion.) When somebody tries to make an outfit (For example, dwarf shorts + white apron + cape looks like a minidress), they are trying to look good. When I'm skilling for instance, I like to wear good-looking clothes just because I like seeing my character look 5 times prettier than everyone else. So when you see someone asking for outfit advice, don't instantly think it's a waste of time. Oh yes, and the "no friends" thing DOES make sense. (Most people consider things this way: If you don't care about how you look, you're a loser etc.) Of course, it doesn't mean you ARE, but that's the general idea. Yay! First post for the first time \ Follower of GuthixThe quill is a miracle, for it drinks darkness and sheds light. Oh right, by the way, I'm a girl. First post for the first time \ But why would you want to look 5 times prettier than everyone else, aren't you confident about how you look in real life, so you get confidence based on how you look in a game? Because that wouldn't be too good. The friends thing doesn't make sense. If you don't care about how you look in a GAME, it doesn't mean you have no friends. That's just [cabbage], it's a game, you don't need the girls (or boys) attention, that's just stupid.
bedman
It's the same as in real life. Some people are like: I'm wearing this jogging suit, it's very comfortable. While other's care about how good it looks and all. Apperantly, you are the first option. Do you take a shower and brush your teeth in the morning? Roseiah
My Runescape character is an extension of myself and I personally care about what I look like in the Real World, and I take this into Runescape. Whether it is pointless or not, I like making my character look nice. If you want to dress up or dress down it is your personal choice. Some people like making their characters look nice, while others could not give a toss, and even though some people do judge people on how they first appear and by their clothes, it doesn't really matter. So, my final point is that some of us, myself included like looking good, for example, my desert boots are firmly attached to my feet, while others want practicability, it's exactly the same as in the real worlds, some people like looking good in their high heels though they aren't practicable, while others prefer more practicable trainers. Personal taste.
Sheep Tails
Bowzie, you still don't see my point. The reason I want to look nicer is because ... well um actually the point is jsut because you want to look pretty. THAT"S IT. If you can't understand that, it's your problem. And no, I am NOT an ugly old hag who has no confidence whatsoever in how they look. Also, you probably know that there is alot of immature players in Runescape, right? Well, your opinion that the friend thing is [cabbage] falls right into that. People who are immature care only about their looks, popularity etc. ( I'm not talking about younger kids, I mean 17 year-olds with no sense of right or wrong  ) So if they care about popularity, they should have "friends" on a certain level to be popular with. Which means if you don't care how you look, they're ging to say that. Bouwzie
I see, you two are saying that you like to reflect real life on RuneScape. That makes sense. And you are saying that I'm not immature? Thank you :)
Kaida23
Like SheepiTails I try to make a good-looking outfit while skilling, but it's not so that I'm "prettier" than everyone else; it's because I'm going to be looking at that same outfit for long stretches of time and want to see something nice. I even change the outfit up every so often so I'm not looking at the same thing *all* the time (and so I'm not always explaining how I got my full Sara). As a F2P my outfit choices are much more limited than a P2P, but I've got all the random outfits, and even a couple of holiday ones, which gives a fair bit of variety if mixed and matched. I'm actually not that concerned about whether or not anyone else likes it. As long as I like it, that's all that matters. Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually... Hobgoblinpie
I just wear my agil cape, Fremmenik boots 1, karamja gloves and rabbits foot necklace, and apparently it looks really cool. I don't know why, I just wear it because they are useful to me. POH Agility Course, Please Support!

Libertherme
I like to wear gear which looks good but has meaning too; my gear, except the Amulet of Glory, all is obtained from quests or can be purchased afterwards.
Mymagerules
while others could not give a toss That would be me :) Well, actually, when im skilling and i dont require special equipment, I like to wear stuff that looks okay, i.e. not addy plate and zamorak robe and bronze full helm. Ill wear my ghostlys coz im such a cool kid. :geek: And I always have boots of lightness, cb brace, glory & duelling :) Dragon Riding Cult Leader? Da_Latios
I wear the same outfit wherever I go (except on slayer missions and waterfiends). I like to have a set of clothing I can be easily identified by. Like Steve Irwin! Although I guess he now... nevermind. I must stop myself before I make a dead guy joke. Ravenkana
Ya, I like a cool outfit for skilling. Sort of impress others, you know? Anyhoo, yesterday I saw this guy who was a Tim the Enchanter doppelganger. Little beard, Fremminik mage helm, Zamorak top and bottom, red boots, and the Staff of Iban. If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system. Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased. The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

SirHartlar
I agree that outfits are completely unneccessary, but I personally like wearing something unique and "stylish" when I can. I don't really know why, I suppose it is just another aspect of the game different people benefit from.
D Jay99
I personally don't want to know people in this game who care about how I look. I wear the exact same thing as you do, except with a skills necklace for herb runs instead of a glory. If I feel like having people follow (which isn't often) me I'll wear an all green outfit with farming cape :P In real life I do care though, but that's normal. Caring about how you look in a game is pointless. It may make you feel good, but it's still pointless.
No_99_Melee
Well I choose my outfit most of the time by it's uses like the OP, but sometimes I have a little fun with it. Ex: I might wear bronze med helms + black and purple capes. People think I'm noobish, but hey I like to relive the old days ;) Also girly clothing on guys is ftw... maybe add in a little whacky things like those webbed feet. It's all for teh lulz :P
warren211
If I'm doing something like woodcutting or fishing where weight of the outfit don't really matter, I try to look nice. My usual outfit is ringmaster hat and top, proselyte or black d'hide legs, sara book. and my weapon can vary depending on whether I need the weapon for the skill. Bouwzie, why do you find it so hard to accept that some people just enjoy their looks online? Believe it or not, the real-life people who work those characters put large amounts of effort into getting their character whatever levels they have. I think the least any hard-working runescape player deserves is the right to obtain an outfit that gives them some individuality over all the spottier-cape/lightness boot players out there. I've put 3 years of effort behind my account and so I think I've earned the right to wear something nice when I skill train. Some people want to express their creativity in a game where a lot of people don't bother with being creative. Some people don't want to be one of the thousands who mindlessly chop trees with nothing on besides gear to reduce weight. They wan't to be different. They want to be an individual. I don't see what's wrong with doing that on an online game. Sure, it's not real life. But real life creativity and desires for wealth and showoffiness are all shown online and real people with real emotions put effort in trying to work their way to the top, often choosing a creative outlet for doing so. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. BiJay
Hey, it's just a game. All the things you do are pointless. It only matters if you statisfied with it.
