Laws about gay marriage have remained the same for over a century and a half. Now we should change them? Have homosexuals given the government any reason at all to do so? Their only argument is that they wish to engage in a loving, caring relationship.

 

That's perfectly fine, but the catalyst there is the word "relationship." Homosexuals couples do not benefit the society around them, and often alienate those near them in the workplace or even around the neighbourhood.

 

Having homosexual parents is also not good for children.

 

As we all know, a mother and father in a stable marriage do a much better job of serving the interests of a child for several reasons.

 

The first is that heterosexuality is the natural thing. Children can't look at a heterosexual couple and say "That's just weird." The same does not apply to a gay couple. For the kid who's adopted and goes to school with other children like any other young boy or girl, imagine what it's like to constantly have people running around you singing "[bleep]" or making fun of your parents?

Tbh the church has nothing against gay marriage, just gay sex. But over time, in a telephone game style way, it ended up being entirely anti-gay. And no human can decide what God wants, so churches being anti-gay marriage is just modern bullcrap.

Oh come on guys, stop bashing religion. Yes, most people who oppose homosexual marriage are religious, and yes, a lot of religious people oppose homosexual marriage, but there are those liberal Christians (and Muslims and Jews and whatever) like me out there. A friend of mine is studying in Wisconsin, he tells me they sometimes see picketers holding those "God hates [bleep]s" posters, then some students pass the voice and half an hour later they are being overrun by more than a hundred students. Laws being in place for a long time has no bearing on whether they should be changed. If there's a good enough reason, they should be.

 

 

 

In the case of gay marriage, I suppose it's because homosexual partners wish to have the same recognition as any other couple. I think this is a case that requires quite a deal of empathy - say you loved someone very much but the state said that you couldn't marry them. Would you be happy with that? I wouldn't, and if my relationship with this person was of no harm and with full consent, then marriage shouldn't be a problem. I certainly wouldn't force churches who oppose gay marriage to consecrate them, but that doesn't mean other bodies can't make it official with all the "I do's" and whatnot.

 

 

 

Your assertion that homosexual couples are of no benefit to society is wrong. They can easily be productive members of society and contribute to it. I find the idea that you'd be against homosexual couples because of society's reaction to them pretty sad. We should be looking to change intolerant attitudes towards homosexuals, not allow them to go on and use them as an excuse against homosexual couples. In any case, many people are more tolerant of homosexuality these days and they most certainly aren't alienated, unless they're stuck in the deep south of America or somewhere similar. I know that in Australia, at least, it would be pretty unusual for someone to speak out against a homosexual neighbour or coworker.

 

 

 

I wouldn't be so quick to say that homosexual couples can't raise a child, either, even though that's not the topic here. What psychological literature do you have to back that up? Something reliable, please.

 

 

 

I think allowing gay marriage is a great step forward. Hopefully a bit of empathy will start to remove some of these negative attitudes towards homosexuals you talk about.
