Deiophobus
I remember the ACT being mostly geometry, with a little simple algebra in it. Does anyone remember what they had to write their SAT essay about?
ThurinEthir
I'd say the math on the SAT is pretty easy (compared to what it should be). It's basically the equivalent of the Math I subject test, which my school recommends you take after your freshmen year. Speaking of which, I should get around to that... I hate how these tests focus so much on English. Anything else, I'm fine with. But English...Damn it. If I'm lucky, when I take the SAT, I'll get something like 800 on the math and 400 on the other two. :| Cenin pân nîd, istan pân nîd, dan nin ú-cenich, nin ú-istach.Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu. wild_goat_14
I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm taking the ACT again today. I made a 31 this past December(35 science) and I'm hoping to do just a bit better so I never have to take it again, or worry about paying for college. Wish me luck. :ohnoes: Don't SAT's have like Pre-Calc. on them? How the hell do you do pre-calc. as a 7th grader? :? You guess. You take math courses 5 years early compared to where I live? I don't know. Maybe their asian parents make them study pre-calc in 7th grade, my parents made me learn all this stuff that wasn't necessary when I was little. Actually, SAT math only goes up to algebra II, ACT math goes up to trigonometry (covered in pre-cal in Texas, but other states cover it in algebra II I think) At my school we do basic Trig in Algebra II freshman year then in Geometry sophomore year. ACT Math is something you can do well as long as you've had Geometry/Alg. II. I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. Nom
Well, interesting. I just took the ACT today. SAT was last month. They're both a bit of a joke to be honest. I scored a 221 on the PSAT at the beginning of the year which should qualify me as a National Merit Scholar or whatever that award is. Free money. Apparently my SAT scores should be coming back within a few days . . .

PoorLepRecon
Ugh, I just took the ACT this morning. I though I did fine on the language arts, math, and reading sections, but that science one was a pain. I kept getting all confused on all of the graphs. ACT math section was much harder than the SAT's (still not "difficult" though). There were a few trig and logarithm questions but nothing too scary. I don't remember any of those on the SAT. Science section of the ACT is the only part I'm worried about. Last.Fm My Bloggy Proud to have served on Tip.it Crew
wild_goat_14
Took ACT today, feel differently than last time. I feel that I may have a 36 on English. Seriously. Math was OK(30-32ish) and Reading sucked again(26-28ish) and I think I killed at Science again(34-36ish, got 35 last time). MY average will probably be a 32, but I hope I can sneak a 33. mmmcannibalism
took ACT this morning english and math I felt turned out amazingly reading was hardest part(just annoying to read passages) science was annoying to read graphs on the essay, I managed to reference the movie "The Last Samurai" \ On the math, I noticed a single truly pre calc question a log, a lot of basic trig stuff from geometry, but nothing really difficult. If you know your reference triangles there were only two problems that required any real thought(not allowed to talk about) oh, there was a lot of basic factoring Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed. Pinkbullet3
I also took the ACT this morning, and I would ask mmmcannibalism and wild_goat_14 how to do one of the math problems involving the three parallel lines and a few ratios, but for the sake of the fact that I could get my test marked null, I won't. (Did you guys get 1:1?) [hide=]English wasn't that bad. Math was easy, save for 4-5 questions that I had slight troubles with. Finished with about 8 minutes left to go back and work/check. Reading wasn't too bad. [*:231kqqsz]Prose was not bad at all, unlike what I had expected. [*:231kqqsz]Social Studies was a tad challenging. 7/10, perhaps. [*:231kqqsz]Humanities was a tad challenging. 8/10, perhaps. [*:231kqqsz]Science wasn't bad at all. All the answers were in the plain sight within the passage. Science wasn't difficult. Had to actually read the text presented in a few problems, but a majority were easily answered just by going directly to the question and then looking at the graph. The arguing scientists questions was the only thing I had some slight troubles on. Writing was easy. Got in 2 pages without any prior outlining with 3 main ideas and a counterargument. (I said yes, TV channels should have the programs, for those of who took the test. :P ) Hoping for 29+. Edit: For those who are taking the June 13, good luck. Nothing too much to worry about, except I might suggest practicing the Reading portions and trying to get in each passage + 10 questions in under ~9 minutes. I'm gonna take that one too just to maximize my chances of doing well/scoring high.[/hide] ^ Blog.
jusaplaya
Scored a 27 on mine when I was in high school, not bad for having them right a wrestling tournament :( I also never got to finish my English part, there was just too damn much to read in that period of time. mmmcannibalism
pm about the ratios, I thought it was a neat problem(we may have had dif ones though) edit-- one thing I noticed, some of the questions overlapped a bit too much. To not give away too much, I noticed I kept solving two or three problems through the same exact method or at least the same approach. 2nd edit-- as advice to anyone about to take these kinds of tests, on the english/reading sections dont try to read the entire passage, read what you have to per question, but read enough around it to pick up context. aquariusman
On the topic of standardized tests, I recently had to take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, which pretty much just says that I'm at the acceptable English level for a Grade 9 student in Ontario. I think it's pretty ridiculous, since my English mark in Grade 9 was 84, my Grade 10 mark being just about the same, and both were in IB preparation courses. Either way, I finished both parts of the test in half the time I was given, and it made me laugh to see all of the people that were in my classes and pulling higher marks than me, stress out over the test. I slacked off a lot on the test, just because I only needed to pass it, any mark above 50% is irrelevant. At times I really wanted to just make my answer as amusing as possible, but if I did that, then I probably would have failed. Apparently provincial governments don't like that. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience. dillingham1
Last year in 7th grade, I got 710 on math, 570 on reading, and 520 on writing on the SAT I believe. My parents were very dissapointed -.- (seriously). Didn't bother to take it this year. disappointed with those scores? holy hell.... they do realize you take the SAT in 4 years right?... lol because thats really good i think for not having gone through 4 years of what is on the SAT... in 7th grade i don't think i could have managed 400s in each section because theres nothing on the SAT that just requires elementray school knowledge haha Commissioner of the first Tip.it fantasy baseball league

db300
Both were pretty easy to me. On SAT's, I got an 800 on math, 670 on reading, 630 on writing. On ACT's I got a 36 on math and science, and a 30 on English and reading. Yeah, I'm awful at English, but the math is a joke. No real tips to give, although I scored my best during the time I cared the least.

Lenticular_J
Would it be better to take the SAT and two special sections or whatever, or the ACT with the writing section? A lot of schools I'm looking at (namely Rice) want one of those things. I know the SAT would be simple enough, I make consistent grades on our SAT practice tests in PSAT I. Words are good for me  catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
