A new, localised version of the Windows downloadable client is available.

The Windows downloadable client is a lightweight application designed specifically for RuneScape. It uses less memory and desktop screen space than a conventional browser, and is therefore ideal for low-end machines. The latest version includes the following enhancements:

Language Aware will choose the correct language region based on your computers settings

Better compatibility with low-end machines

Features a smart new icon

You can find a link to the Windows downloadable client in the Downloads & Wallpapers section of the RuneScape website.

I was thinking w00t! Finally! And I happily downloaded it - the hope: I would never have to resize the window ever again (I always had to crop it to get rid of all the spare black space).

Load it up...and I STILL got to resize it and not only that, it opens a little off-centre of the screen rather than centre like it used to. So, more work for me -.-

How lame!

If it's still built off of IE and not Chrome, it's not worth using.

Whats wrong with IE?

why don't we get an actual useful client, with actual features, like stat lookup, and ge lookup, and all that stuff? that would actually be useful. this update was pretty much unnecessary imo. i still downloaded it though, and i'm still gonna use it, cause RS doesn't like chrome so much, plus i'm sure RS will run a bit better on the client while i browse with chrome, rather than doing it all on chrome anyway.

Eh I cant see the difference in all honesty. Reinstating a rant forum that already existed. Reinventing the runescape client that to all purposes is the same as before.

"Better compatibility with low-end machines"

Uha..

"Features a smart new icon"

Whats this 'icon' they talking about? The sword? lol...

It belongs in the patch notes. Its like having an announcement "We have changed the way ogres look in dialogue when talking" "We have just adjusted our seats for better compatibility with our [wagon]"

(Sorry if wrong about icon but its my best guess... I downloaded it and cant figure it out what they meant unless it was that sword icon lol!!! I have to admit.. These updates make me laugh alot more than they used to.)

That would be nice, but the purpose is to support low-end machine. Although buy all means, Jagex should make one of those.

And base it off the default web browser as well.

Err.. I'm kinda confused by this, I still use, and have for many years used the original RS downloadable client... Works just fine for me, what's the difference, and why are they announcing it as something brand new?

My computer isn't the best for HD, and I do find it faster in HD using the new client than the old one. Even so, I was expecting a big update, with a few tools and so on, but anything that makes playing just that little bit faster is good in my books.

jagex has been milking the game for more than it's worth these past few months with useless updates and things like this new client.

with the staff they have and resources now they could easily be pumping out 2 USEFUL updates a week, instead they wait 2 months and give us a new desktop image for "their" client...

YEA, because we all know there hasn't been an update in two months. Silly Jagex, not updating for two..Oh wait. :wall:

ITQ: Someone who should have a clue, doesn't. Yea, two useful updates a week. Because this week is over on Monday and that was our only update. hurf durf.

People expected a chrome or firefox client BEFORE an IE one? Are you serious?

Just because it's "cool" to go with one of the secondaries doesn't mean it makes business sense to skip the primarily accepted web browser. FWIW, I use IE over Firefox because Firefox is incredibly glitchy, faults on startup all the time, and just has generally gone downhill quickly over the last 6-12 months.

Funny you should say that, Stormveritas. I've found the exact opposite with IE. :P

I think it's more down to personal preferance. The browser are all very similar and different people on different computers have different problems. :_

Exaggeration and sarcasm in text = undetectable unless you make it obvious. The only thing separating your post and that of a whiny kid is that you said it was sarcasm after being called out on it.

What is RIGHT with it?

I'll stick to Firefox tyvm.

I don't see how it would be a security risk only using it for the RuneScape page. It's not like you're downloading torrents on there, correct?
