Merchant clans, good or bad???

I dislike it because of the lack of effort required compared to pre-Ge merchanting. I do join merchanting clans just to see which items are rising to tell friends, and to buy one of the item if I'll need it within the next couple days. Although, my bank is quite full, so I have generally any item I would need. I personally am too scared to even try the clans for investing in an item. I'd really hate to get burned. I have been considering getting into item flipping as of late. It reminds me more of pre-Ge merchanting (buying from someone who sells cheap & selling for more to someone who wants it). I prefer it because it isn't creating a demand, but rather making a profit on an already existing demand.

I'm sure we'll eventually see some action taking towards price manipulation clans. It may not be direct, but by the end of the year I feel some action will be taken.

In reply to the original poster, both bunyips and yews and magics seeds are being bought out by public merch clans (search on RS forums) at the moment, and if they go to plan, will definitely go higher before they top out.

Great if you are holding 600 bunyips like me, rubbish is you want to buy - I would wait two weeks for seeds as they will crash big time i'd imagine.

To put it bluntly:

Clan Merchenters are the Scum of the Earth.

In my books, it goes(worst to best), Clan Merchenters, Bug abusers, Leechers, PJers.

On the plus side for you, if you wait a while, seeds will crash to about 3/4 2/3rds their original price before the merch. If not less!!

Good luck on 99 Farming!!

Good. Think about the providers- if bunyip pouches go up in price, make some Bunyips and sell 'em. It gets regular people money. Besides, merchanting doesn't do too much damage. If a Dragon Plate raises 7 mil, wait for the price to come down or make some more money. Merchers don't have that much control over the GE. It's your geepee.

Glad to know my homies are looking out for me.

Good. It gives us something to talk about.

Besides that.

Bad, because whenever theres an item I need, commonly armor/robes for slaying or to work on a skill, theres always some clan who causes the price to go so high, i pay x2 what its worth, and after im done using it all the price has dropped or finding the item itself is like a needle in a haystack. If im right theres a User here somewhere who's head of a, and I state this 100% from his signature, "Leader of [blah] Price Manipulators Clan". Each time I see him i feel like jumping through a monitor, finding him and slap him senseless with a school bag full of 5c coins. -.-

Hey there! ::'

Are you sure you don't want me to lend you some coins?

Anyway, they're perfectly fine. Everyone knows that, it's just *some* people think they're bad. When they're part of one, they wouldn't say that.

At the same time, that person might NOT be able to sell them, because the clan just dumped that item and is done with it. It crashes and they can't sell it, and it keeps crashing and they FINALLY manage to sell it, when it's at its lowest yet. Doesn't sound that beneficial to me. :P

They don't affect me, as I am self-sufficient in the game.
That's impossible, you freak.

No.. really? Teach me, I want freedom from the confines of that building.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

when their were just a few, they actually stimulated the economy and game, but once A C I D Y, and all the noob manipulation and buy-out clan started popping up, you really need an inside source to prevent getting screwed out of money.

now, because famous players are starting clans with the message "buy all o dis and u get rich" jagex is going to have to do something about "merchants" #-o

investors think for themselves

merchants buy blindy

BAD BAD BAD

They affect everybody in the game negatively, except the manipulators themselves.

Look at the modern (real world) economic crisis, it is created by a group of ruthless greedy people persuiting money

Although Runescape has a different economic model, the GE works similiar to that of real world stock markets. With those merchant clans who controls the prices, ordinary players would suffer by losing money

I suggest that Jagex should make explict price manipulation a bannable offense, and ban several clan leaders as a warning. Afterall, even if this does not rely on deceiving others, this does downgrades other player's gaming experience in an unfair way, and most importantly, ruin the game spirit --- afterall, being rich does not mean that one is superior and is allowed to bully others using their money

If GE works similar to the real world. Than being rich really does make you superioer and able to bully others with money.

Even many of the manipulators get burned when it comes time to dump the items back on the GE. The leaders and dishonest members, however, aren't affected negatively because they always dump early and make everyone else take the losses.

If you're talking about the people who wanted houses they couldn't afford or the politicians (Congress gave itself a hefty $90,000/person bonus this year as well as the regular salary increase; not to mention that the reason people were able to get into houses they couldn't afford was because of policies forced upon the business world (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were/are required (by the government that controlled them) to have some 40% of their total net worth in sub-prime mortgages (this was started under Clinton, continued under Bush, and unlikely to change under Obama))), then I would agree. If you're talking about the businessmen, then I agree to the extent that they could have spoken up and told everyone about it before everything crashed, but I disagree with blaming only them when, in reality, the politicians are the ones ultimately respnsible.

Lol before the GE people complained about merchants, then the G.E came out, and they were fine. Now that people found new ways to merchant, you guys are complaining again. Your complaints should be with Jagex for not really leaving merchants an option, not for the people who make money that way. I'll agree, some items that end up being 1mil when they are really only worth 300k is messed up, but what else do you want them to do?
