uber_n00blet
Looks like New Orleans got lucky, considering what could've happened. I mean, its still realllly bad, but at least its not completely drowned. Ya, they got really lucky 1. It weakened. 2. The levees held in most of the storm surge. 3. It turned to the east a little. 3 really good things happened at the same time for them. More people could have lost thier homes. My grandparents live in Mobile, Alabama. The news said that Mobile is underwater. The place where my grandparents are staying is fine, but since thier house is on the coast, they don't expect to have a come when they get there.
Astralinre
We're starting to get the rain and wind here in Memphis, now. I hope we get some good lighting and thunder along with it. Everyone in New Orleans, Mobile, and the rest of the area hit hardest has my prayers. :( "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. How2PK
Just saw a man getting interviewed who lost his wife due the tornado. His little kids were standing next to him. Rough stuff, I can't really believe people post things like "RUN" with a so called funny image on the fora; where is this world going to? trapical
For those who don't know, a levee burst open. Water is flowing into the city at 2,400,000 gallons a minute. There are white water rapids going down canal street and the superdome is surronded by water. Downtown water is raising at an ich every 5 minutes. God help them. Bmw
^ Yeah, thats truely something  The aftermath of Katrina thus far is just...terrible. At least 55 dead, million + left without power. As mentioned, over 80% of the city is now under water, and another gate broke today, which will add even more water to the already drowned city. Its amazing that this is happening in a first class country. It just goes to show that no matter how much money, power, and military force you have, you cannot win over mother nature. I've heard that Katrina was possibly fuelled by Global Warming? If so....wow. I'm really left speechless. Atm Toronto is feeling the reminiscants(sp?) of Katrina, but just rain and mild winds, nothing serious.

When the core of the earth keeps getting warmer, the water in oceans etc. get's a lot warmer too, since a tornado get's it's strength from the warm water you will get strong tornados, and you will get stronger ones in the future. No doubt that the storm is really powerful if it can reach it up here. :? Heh, what'd really shock me is if it's so powerful that it takes a turn out toward the Atlantic, circles back around the east coast, and goes back into the Gulf of Mexico, hitting us twice in one hurricane. Highly unlikely, but freaky to think about

Mercifull
The Americans were very lucky that only 80 people have died but over 800 people have sadly died in Iraq today after there was a stampede escaping suicide bombers at a religious festival. 30,000 children also died today because of poverty. Its good that people donate when you get a natural disaster such as Katrina but there are other far more needy people out there too. A lot more than 80 have died, theres no way to tell yet. And 695 (edit: different numbers from different places) died in Iraq. But massive death by stampede is not surprising when people act the way they do there.

Yeah, on the new's they said that bodies were just floating in the water, but they were more worried with finding the live. They realy haven't counted the dead yet :(
Silver_Dragon
The Americans were very lucky that only 80 people have died The death toll from this is going to rise significantly. The Coast Guard, National Guard, and other rescue teams haven't even started to search for nor pick up the dead bodies yet. All concentration is currently going towards finding and rescuing survivors. Also, two people from my state have died as a result of a series of F2 and F3 tornadoes caused by the hurricane, and I haven't even heard about the death toll in Alabama or Mississippi yet. Because here in San Francisco it's been about $3.00/gallon (sometimes more..) I'm sure the price of gas will raise even more with Katrina. ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
