2009 Most Anticipated Movies

Featured Replies

Well it's like halfway through the year but I guess this topic could still work. Generally the best movies come out second half of the year anyway. So what movies coming out this year are you most looking forward to seeing?

For me:

1. District 9 - Sci-Fi film about an Alien ship that has become stranded on earth in South Africa. The government force them to live in slum-like conditions and keep them sectioned off from from other humans. This is easily the movie I'm most looking forward to being a big Sci-Fi fan and having watched the directors short films I think this movie has the potential to be amazing. Here's the only trailer they have released so far if anyone is interested: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi262144537/

2. Shutter Island - Wasn't the biggest fan of his last film big film The Departed but it's still Scorsese. Murder mystery on an island with an Insane Asylum seems interesting enough :P. Anyway the trailer is quite good check it out: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3052536345/

3. Inglorious Basterds - Tarantino's first movie since Death Proof in 2007 and one he's been wanting to make for a lot longer then that. Brad Pitt plays the leader of a group known as "The Basterds" who are sent on a mission in WWII to spread fear by brutally killing Nazi's. Trailer isn't as good as the first two in my opinion but still worth watching: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1860895257/

4. A Serious Man - The Coen Brother's rarely disappoint let's hope this isn't one of those times. Don't know to much about the film other then it's a black comedy period piece set in the Midwest. No trailer on this one sorry.

5. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - Made by one of my favorite directors Terry Gilliam, it has some big name actors and seems like the kind of movie that Gilliam was made to direct. His ability to create visually stunning scenes and make incredibly imaginative movies seem real will be great for this particular movie. This would be higher on my list but it doesn't look like it's being released in the US anytime soon so it's down here for now.

Few others as well but I'll leave it at that.

Being a big movie buff I'm interested in hearing what you all want to see show post away.

That's the big one for me this year. I'm a huge Scorsese fan and I think it'll be interesting to see him take on this kind of film as it's new territory for him. The trailer looks good and the film has a good cast (it includes Max Von Sydow  ) so I'm looking forward to it.

I also want to see Silence whenever Scorsese gets around to making it.

I'm keen to see how 'Where the Wild Things Are' will turn out like.

I presume he is meaning the one that is being directed by James Cameron.

Yea, the James Cameron film.

The "Spyro" Movie well its supposed to come out this Christmas.

I don't really know what's coming out. That GI Joe movie looks pretty funny, and of course Nine. New Scorsese is always good.

Inglourous Basterds and Taking Woodstock really... Not many movies I'd be glee over.

If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Also The Road should be good, the book its based on is brilliant.

There are a few out this year already that I was looking forward to, but no need to put them here. So here we go:

Brüno - It's been edited twice now, once to make it more gay friendly (even though the movie is about making heterosexual homophobes uncomfortable) and then again to get rid of a Michael Jackson joke. Should boycott it until DVD just for the censorship, but I still really want to see it.

Funny People - Could be pretty hilarious, this one I might wait for the DVD though. Apatow, Sandler, Schwartzman, and many others.

Bakjwi - I've still only seen two Chan-wook Park movies, loving the first one I saw (Oldboy), finding the second one just interesting (I'm a Cyborg, but that's OK). This one is following the vampire craze, still could be good though.

Distric 9 - First saw the preview for this months ago, I think before seeing Push. For some reason at that time I got it in my head that this was a Danny Boyle film, and I've been telling everyone that ever since. Just checked it out though and Danny Boyle has absolutely nothing to do with this that I can tell. So who knows where that came from, anyhow I am still really looking forward to it.

Gake no ue no Ponyo - Hayao Miyazaki has been hit and miss for me, but more hit so I am kind of looking forward to this one also. Don't usually care for English dubbing, but it is the only option if I want to see it in theaters.

Inglourious Basterds - You all know about this one already.

Extract - All I should have to say is Mike Judge. But I might as well name drop a few more: Mila Kunis, Jason Bateman and Kristen Wiig.

9 - First saw the preview for this about a year ago I think. Looked pretty awesome, has a pretty good voice cast so here's hoping. Director and Writer are both fairly new though.

Pandorum - Could turn out to be generic horror, could turn out to be a copy of Event Horizon, but then again it could be good. Probably will wait for DVD on this one though too just because of not knowing.

Zombieland - Bill Murray and Amber Heard, plus zombies. Yeah, this is going to be great.

Sherlock Holmes - RDJ and Guy Ritchie, neither have disappointed yet.

EDIT: Looking back over the topic I missed two: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus because it wasn't on the previews part of IMDb, and The Road because I just missed it. IDP is Terry Gilliam, and even though I didn't like the last movie of his I saw at all (Tideland) I have still liked most of what I have seen. The Road I want to see, but as soon as you put post-apocalyptic in a description I am there anyways.

Will have to look out for the Chan-wook Park film loved Oldboy. Can't believe I forgot about The Road though just read the book a few weeks back, think that might make me hate the movie but I still want to see it. Also District 9 is being directed by Neil Blomkamp, it's pretty much his first big time movie just a few shorts other then that. Peter Jackson is signed on as a producer though. They were supposed to be making the Halo movie but it fell through so they ran with District 9 instead.

Bruno. I can't wait, Borat's one of my favourite films so I'm hoping this'll be good.

Annoyed that it's an 18 though, I'll have to sneak in somehow.

District 9 has a fairly new director, a new writer, and a fairly unknown cast, so I think it could be pretty interesting. Peter Jackson being involved always helps but I imagine he was mostly worried about creating Lovely Bones at the time this was being made.

I'm excited for District 9, haven't seen a movie that deals with aliens that aren't completely hostile and or generally disgusting. Most of them go "OMG alien just ripped his chest open!", or "OMG dude just got vaporized!!!!11"

The sour dough of the epitmous pie hungers for another's sweet lips to be dulled into a state of most irreverant humbleness

TUBULAR BELLS!

funny people//the hangover//transformers 2!!!//and fighting.

transformers 2 was great!

fighting sucked!

haven't seen the other two yet!
