Dizzle229
Sorry if this is old, but... I need to raise my range for a clue scroll, and decided to get to work on some guards in Edgeville. When I attacked a guard, instead of coming after me, he backed away! I moved after him, and he came back at me. I moved back to the spot where I initially shot from, and again he moved away. He didn't go too far, but just stayed just within range of my arrows. Essentially, it means that you can kill them all you want and they will never be able to hit you as long as you stay on that square. I know this probably belongs in the Bugs & Suggestions forum, but I wasn't sure and I want to say what TIF has to say. Also, I know this isn't groundbreaking and it isn't going to be the next penguin glitch, but I figured it was worth mentioning. How to get there. 1. Go to the bridge between Edgeville and the GE. 2. On the Edgeville sidem there is a signpost. Get 1 square Southeast of the sign. 3. Go 5 squares West, and you're in the spot. I Pic On the mini-map it should look like this. Get back here so I can rub your butt.
Blingkachi50
1) It's guards, who gives a [cabbage]? 2) it's because you're outside of their walking range. [blingkachi50]
Dizzle229
1) It's guards, who gives a [cabbage]? 2) it's because you're outside of their walking range. I said it wasnt groundbreaking, but for a low range or probably mage level, it's damn useful. Edit: P.S., seems like if I get close to them and retreat to the spot, they can follow me to it, but stay there even if I walk away, though they still turn as if to chase me. Master_Smither
Interesting. Seems like your out of their range and they hit the wall of the building and can't back up anymore. xSxqPowerx
Most monsters have spots that work similarly.
magzar
all monsters do that if you're standing outside their range monsters are all confined to a specific area that they can't go out of, it's nothing new and it's not a glitch it's just how it works. [hide]Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-[/hide]
hihihi727
that happens to me all the time, esp. at moss giants
Dizzle229
What I'm saying is that for low levels, it's easy XP, I'd say for level 25 and under in the skill. And for me too kinda, I'm 90 combat and still have only 39 range  Get back here so I can rub your butt.
Laura
To reiterate, this has the potential to occur with every creature.
Junkmutt
Is this similar to ranging the Tzhaar out of their walking range and they walk back then you walk away then attack...rinse and repeat? On a similar note: Dunno if this was fixed but... Sometimes, while meleeing dragons, I would hit them and they wouldn't attack back. Sy_Accursed
Yup pretty old news. Every monster in rs has a wander area (whihc they will wander of thier own accord) and a range (which they will chase you down in) Guards are meant to be guarding the place they are at so have very small range. Equally most strong monsters are tied into their room, eg bronze, steel and iron dragons won't walk out of their chambers in the dungeon Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
Johannas
(Just go to a slayer cave) All monsters have their boundaries - one example i can think of is when i'm trying to mage turoths - they always back away. Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
Cheefoo
Could be useful if all the fences in Runescape spontaneously evaporate. kwimbob
Yeah, all monsters have always potentially done this, but now with Ava's accumulator your arrows no longer have to fall into like 10 different sets of 1, though the trick still isn't helpful for a roomful of aggressive monsters because the target will just back up until it makes you move into dangerous territory by backing out of range or out of your line of sight. Plus when monsters do this they drop their stuff somewhere random rather than in the spot in front of you as with a true safespot Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well. And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.[hide]Kwimbob now looks exactly like me in real life except for hair color. Yes, this means I look exactly like the protagonist of that certain anime that my second character, Faye_V is also named after. Yes, I bought a jacket that also looks like his. No in real life I don't have a slain bear to sling over my shoulders. Yes, I'm that skinny even if I no-life it for years in basements. No, I can't shoot a gun. Yes, I can win any other strategic video game you have never played - because I probably have, ahahaha. And yes, I also have brown eyes, yet one of my eyes looks different from the other. And yes, I'm completely oblivious to the [real] world around me as I constantly engineer new solutions to daily problems in my head. When I get hungry, all that isn't food can wait. When I'm sleepy - nothing is of any priority in front of sleep. But at any other time, I never slow down. Never give up. Never Surrender. Makes for a good life.[hide]YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT.- See You, Space Cowboy.[/hide][/hide]
n64jive
Do you want another post telling you that all monsters do this? No? Oh alright then. Ps: all monsters do this. toast647
1) It's guards, who gives a [cabbage]? 2) it's because you're outside of their walking range. This. trimbers8
I ddin't know this and so I have previously spent many hours trying to position monsters behind a fence so I can range/mage them. I can only say thank you for saving me a further 10 minutes per guard as I try to reach the dizzy heights of level 40 range...
nerdboyxxx
Similar things have happened to me with moss giants :P yeah it would be helpful for some lower levelled players as well.
