Have you ever lost something, only to find it later and after learning a valuable lesson ?

 

 

 

In the time you had lost it, you thought and had an epiphany ? And you felt it went missing on purpose and then again returned on purpose ? So that you could better yourself ?

 

 

 

If this sounds "abstract" I'll give you an example.

 

 

 

This happened to me a while ago. I had this school badge that I valued very much. It was also useful to put on [a] resume. One day I couldn't find it. I looked all over. I could not find it. I thought to myself : screw it. It's just a symbol. As long as I know that I've done it [the award on the badge] and my school recognizes it -- who cares if I don't have it on my tie.

 

 

 

I found it 20 minutes later.

 

 

 

TLDR : Have you ever lost something and learned something because of it ?

I've lost lots of things, I left about $200 in the back of a library book to press it so it was straight (My mum told me to). I then returned the book and forgot about the library book, but someone from the library called up and said I had left it in there.

 

 

 

Lesson learned: Some people are honest and not to listen to my mum's weird ideas.

I can completely identify with the second statement.

 

 

 

My mum is totally insane - in a nice way.

And this is why I press things flat between books, not inside them ;)

I have a favorite jacket that I loveeee. I brought it to school one day, and thought I lost it. I freaked out, looked everywhere, and upon looking closer in my backpack, it was the very bottom.

 

 

 

Lesson: Even if it looks beyond a doubt your jacket isn't there, look anyway!

Don't take your gameboy to school.

 

 

 

Sadly I didn't learn the lesson the first time when I lost / had stolen (was never returned) my GBA. Ended up losing my GB:SP later...

 

 

 

 

 

Needless to say now I'm pretty paranoid on making sure I have everything on me and I haven't lost anything else to date. I always double and triple check stuff even if I know I have it. Still pretty pissed at how dishonest some people are though, I know that some kid just saw it and took it home. It's probably also why I'm not sure what I would do if I found something someone lost that was of value (monetary not emotional). I mean on one hand I know that it sucks to lose something, but on the other hand would they do the same for me?

I do the same thing with my phone now after my dad washed my shorts and forgot to check the pockets.

I lost my wallet, with my ID and everything else.

 

 

 

Spent about 2 hours looking for it, up and down the road I live, and the village.

 

 

 

Turns out it was next to the couch, where my dad picked it up.

 

 

 

Lesson Learnt: Organization helps and my Dad always knows where stuff is.

I've lost a lot of things, and when I do lose them I become more motivated than before. Just today I was using one of my grandfather's new tractors, and when I detached a cart from behind it I didn't remember where I put the pin that holds the cart in place. I told him I had lost it, and now I have to pay for a new one :-# . I learned for the thousandth time that I should always keep track of little trinkets and whachamacallits, they always prove to be so evanescent and so horrible to lose. So the lesson kids: when detaching a cart from the back its respective tractor or lockable transportation device of some kind, always put those little cylindrical pins that hold the cart in place in a place pre-approved by your grandfather.

Mmm, same here. Whenever I take something valuable to school I always peek in my school bag to make sure it's there. Kind of gives it away but at least I know it's there.

 

 

 

One thing that pissed me off was when I lost a Pokemon card. It was Charizard! And I never found it. I think my brother stole it and sold it >__> The [bleep]er...

Lost my monthly bus and train pass at 7/11 the other day after being to the pub. They cost 70eur and I had bought it that very same day, used it once. So I went back into the store and asked the cashier if someone had turned it in, he said no. I walk out and moments later another store employee runs out and asks me what I was missing, I told him, and he gave it to me. He was gone before I got to thank him. :(

Lost my phone and found it in my trouser pocket after they'd been in the wash and on the line.

 

Lesson learnt don't leave your phone in your trouser pocket when you have a dad whose straightly obsessed about the washing machine.

I remember I lost my watch while on vacation in Mexico.

 

 

 

We had been swimming in some river, there was a very rocky beach (this wasn't in a resort btw, this was in a very poor area in the middle of mexico) and I put my watch down. I left swimming without picking it up, and remembered a few hours later. I went back and looked everywhere, and finally found it.

 

 

 

It taught be to always be sure I have everything with me, and I supposed I am a bit paranoid about that stuff now.

So there was this ring of power...

 

Nerdy jokes aside, I think I'm too paranoid to lose anything. The only thing I can remember right now is when I was in London some 6 years ago, I was on the tube/underground/whatever you guys call it there, with my family of course. As we were leaving the train and leaving the station, I felt my pockets - couldn't find my ticket-thingy. I started to panic, wondering if I would be able to get past the gates.

 

Of course, the guards there were nice enough to let a little kid through.

 

Oh, and the next day, I was on the plane home...Found the ticket in my pocket. #-o

 

Now whenever I'm on a subway/train, I check my pockets every few minutes for my card/ticket.

Someone jacked my $100 calculator from my backpack in the gym locker room during school one year.

 

Lesson learned: Lock up ALL valuables. Even the unseen ones.

I am not particularly careful with my graphing calculator (TI-84+, was like $100) because no one steals them at our school (apparently. people leave theirs in the hall all the time and anybody could walk off with it, but no one does.)

My cell phone is probably more valuable (somebody could rack up charges with texting (which isn't free for me) or long distance)...

If someone were to steal something from my backpack (which is something that does happen quite a lot at my school), they would be best off taking my calculator. It's the most valuable thing, in monetary and personal terms.
