Hey I was browing through the RSOF and I seen this thread it is a very good find that might hint us to the future quest lines.

Does this make us Dorothy?

So far we have helped Brother Tranquility get his brain, Cyrisus find his courage, and now Arrav has a heart.

I feel a blast of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" coming on

If you dont know what this guy is talking its Wizard of Oz.

Wizard of Oz was about the Gold Standard. But I guess it could apply to video games as well lol. Jagex is very sneaksy.

[hide=Some History]From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wonderful_Wizard_of_Oz#The_Gold_Standard_representation_of_the_story

Some scholars have theorized that the images and characters used by Baum and Denslow closely resembled political images that were well known in the 1890s, specifically the debate of the day regarding monetary policy: the "Yellow Brick Road" represents the gold standard, the silver slippers (which were ruby slippers in the film version) represent the sixteen to one silver ratio (dancing down the road). Many other characters and story lines represent identifiable people or circumstances of the day. The wicked witches of the east and west represented the local banks and the railroad industry, respectively, both of which drove small farmers out of business. The scarecrow represents the farmers of the Populist party, who managed to get out of debt by making more silver coinage. The return to bimetalism would increase inflation, thus lowering the real value of their debts. The Tin Woodman represents the factory workers of the industrialized North, whom the Populists saw as being so hard-pressed to work grueling hours for little money that the workers had lost their human hearts and become mechanized themselves. (See Second Industrial Revolution) Toto was thought to be short for teetotaler, another word for a prohibitionist; it should be noted that William Jennings Bryan, the fiery popular candidate (possibly the Lion character) from the Populist Party, was a teetotaler himself. Bryan also fits the allegorical reference to the Cowardly Lion in that he retreated from his support of free silver after economic conditions improved in the late 1890s. However, it has also been suggested the cowardly Lion represented Wall Street investors, given the economic climate of the time. The Munchkins represented the common people (serfdom), while the emerald city represented Washington and its green-paper money delusion. The Wizard, a charlatan who tricks people into believing he wields immense power, would represent the President. The kiss from the Good Witch of the North is the electoral mandate; Dorothy must destroy the Wicked Witch of the Westthe old West Coast "establishment" (money) with water (the US was suffering from drought). Moreover, "Oz" is the abbreviation for the measuring of these precious metals: ounces.

Some biographers and scholars of Baum disagree, pointing to details of Baum's biography, his own statements and writing about the purpose of his book, the ease with which hidden meanings can be found in works not intended to contain any, and the question of why contemporary press did not discuss these perceived metaphors which logically should have been much more obvious at that time. The consensus is that the books are written solely for the pleasure of Baum's younger readers, to give them a sense of possibility and imagination.[/hide]

Clever. I don't think Jagex is smart enough to have been thinking this all along though. Though, it would be cool if they would follow this train of wizard of oz references. I'd like to see a quest with a man behind a curtain or a witch with flying monkies. =-p

If they're so clever they should make an update that isn't either really lame or doesn't send the runescape economy or engine into a downward spiral. lol.

If they were stupid then they'd give into the RSOF and stupid demanding players that think they know better than the actual makers of the game. We'd have failin--- I mean sailing as a skill. The old wildy and trade limits removed - both meaning that RWT is rampant and that Jagex has to shut down because of the millions of pounds they have to fork out to pay to credit card companies because of all the fraud.

About the only few major decisions they made for the better.

I used to be on your side about 6 months ago when I gave Jagex the benefit of the doubt, and here I am 6 months later still very unimpressed with the year's updates so far. If this is the update year then let's update some old skills that need reworking or maybe upgrade existing minigames instead of bringing out new ones that have major glitches and cause people to lose hundreds of millions of gp upon the day of release. Hell, give us a new skill. It's been over a year and a half, and while there's not a rule that says we need one every year, waiting 2 years to release a new skill is just way too long. People with maxed combat are like, "What the hell do we do now? Complete some minor achievements like get 4,000 chompy kills? Get 200,000,000 exp in 5+ skills? Sure!"

I'm just saying, there's been a lack of communication between Jagex and some of it's more advanced players. They're not listening to the people who realistically run this game. They give us the content and we breathe life into it, essentially. Without us there's no use for the new content, and so in return they should try to deliver content that really we can be happy with.

You can try to ignore it, but the fact is that there are hundreds of threads made daily on the RSOF (and lots here on tip it as well) about how Jagex is blundering left and right with almost every update. It's not that people are being greedy, it's that it's seriously been a long time since we've had an update that truly the majority of runescape can either fall in love with or at least admire from a distance. We got the new agility courses (or should I say, extended old ones) and we got the rest feature...but other than these, I haven't seen too many successes. It's either a hit or miss, and while I don't expect Jagex to hit everytime, I expect a lot less misses than we've been given.

While Guthix Sleeps 2; All the gods must unite to put lucien at rest. Proof? The door at GWD with the 4 god symbols on it, all gods must unite to open it and then re-seal it. Let's be honest, now lucien has the stone of jas, what else other than 4 gods can help put him away.

Wondering why im saying we're guthix? The balance elemental in WGS only knew of guthix, yet he knew us? Makes you wonder huh.

I think you really spent too much time doing archeology diddging and it got to your head...JaGeX is doing just fine, its an awesome company, with awesome games, which are updated awesomely.

And we're not Guthix, we're the former guardians of Stone of Jas. That's pretty clear.

And the door In GWD is most likely a place where the real Godsword is. You know, the real weapons able to kill gods and anihile armies in a single wipe. Not some sword, reforged by humans, using a hilt made by some other gods followers.

The clock is ticking, and your time is running out, mortals.

Im completely confused and not familiar with the Wizard of Oz at all, but the Penguin general was behind the curtain in The hunt for Red Raktuber.

The RSOF is a forum full of trolls, 10 year olds, and other uneducated twits who can't comprehend that the development cycle does not revolve around them, and will call for a riot and boycott if Jagex so much as clips a toenail in a fashion they don't like. The Runescape community, at least the vocal minority, do not know what they want, they will continue to contradict themselves, and they will always look for a reason to whine.

*Small update* OMG JAGEX UPDAET TO SMALL!

*big update* OMG JAGAX I CANT DO DIS, 2 BIIGGGGG

*small quest* OMG AJDSFJ WAEST OF TIEM, POINTKLESS QEST!

*big quest* QWTF JAFGAX I DUN WANNA HAFTA DO BIG QUEST, U SUX!

There is no pleasing the RSOF, because there's no pleasing a massive group of angsty preteen crybabies who literally look for any reason at all that they can complain and look like internet badasses.

This. Sure, I'm a preteen, but no, I'm NOT a crybaby. I enjoy all the updates, even ones I can't use yet, because I know sometime I'll do them. Sure, the trade limit wasn't my favourite, but what could Jagex do against losing a few million pounds to RWT? If you can pay millions of pounds because your MMORPG has RWT problems, go ahead, but Jagex can't.

Anyway, about the brain, courage and heart, I lol'ed. It's funny. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jagex had it planned all along, or just planned it now when they realized what happened.

After having released nearly 160 quests, eventually they're going to have done many, many things, since they try to make each quest different.

So no, no relation, no tie in, just a statistical coincidence.

I don't know if you've actually noticed, but while the majority of the RSOF are these people you speak of, there's still a great amount of legitimate players who know what they really want that use those forums and still are very very unhappy.

And almost with every update since Mod MMG came people here on tip it have noted that the updates seem to be going downhill. These upgrades we are getting are sometimes nice, but more often than not it's just a bunch of patch updates disguised at real updates, which were were getting before Mod MMG came in ADDITION to the real updates.

They're slacking and/or they've dug themselves such deep holes that now they're running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to fix them, only to find out that they're making it worse.

Really, Omali, just think about it for a second. How many updates has Jagex come out with this year that didn't need retracting, taken offline for a bit or revamped? Bounty Hunter got taken down to release the bounty hunter worlds, which created even more of the 26king problem and still had a lot of people complaining about things like being able to teleport and fatal glitches. Then they released statues which only brought the economy into a chaotic spiral. Their solution to this was to get rid of protect item prayer on pvp and bounty worlds and to make it so you are permanently skulled. A few days later they "rectified," this by adding +1 bounty worlds. Now all we're left with is worlds where you basically have to pj or be pj'd.

Moblising Armies. The day of release, people lost millions due to a glitch, including one guy who lost his cashpile of 350M. Also, the seige, hoard and rescue games were glitched beyond immediate repair so much that they had to take them offline for days. How the HELL does the bug team miss something so huge, especially after they had delayed the release of the game not once, but twice in the past year's time? Furthermore, the waiting room was bugged so it would take about 45 minutes for some people to get 1 game in. This was "fixed," but it still took about 10 minutes to get into one game. Their solution to this was to have it so the game takes out more players for games at a time, only now, I am STILL waiting the same time I was to get into a game, because rooms are never filled up so much that you can just get in and go. The maximum waiting time should be 2-5 minutes, not 10.

Then there's the summoning tab being taken, which they have said is not coming back. So they took a tab that was very useful to us all and now we're left with having to constant left-click right-click the summoning icon, then search through about 7 different options to find the one we want. If you aren't already used to this and you take a BoB to, say, Bandos and need that food, one wrong click could mean losing millions. Jagex knows that we want something similar to the tab back, which is why they are coming up with something new, but here we are again: They are having to rectify their mistakes.

Oh, and remember the 150th quest? You know, the one that was supposed to be some huge grandmaster-sized quest that they couldn't release at the time (or hadn't been working on hard enough) so they ended a plotline and gave us a ridiculously small quest (which out of all almost 160 quests I've done is probably towards the bottom for most fun) just to give us a 150th quest? They actually HYPED that quest up. They made a "limited edition" hoodie with a big 150 on it! (And then they released more of it later. Talk about limited edition, huh?) They revamped the front page for the quest too, which stayed there for months and months. Either way, they hyped it, and it was a big letdown for a lot of us.

I could go on, but we've all been here. We've all seen what we've been given. The only real things people can say they've been really happy with (as a majority of the RS community, not just a select few) are the rest and run updates, the agility course updates and some of the little tidbits here and there they've spruced up.

Well thats too bad you didn't like it.Does this make it a failed update? No.

I did like it.Does this make it worth the hype and everything else you mentioned? No.

P.S:I'm still waiting for that "real" 150th quest you promised us...

As am I.

Don't quote it like it's not real. There was a topic made about it when the quest came out where Jagex mentioned that they had planned for a larger quest the size of a grandmaster for the release of the 150th but decided to not release it then.

I'd think that they may have accidentally stumbled upon the Wizard of Oz effect. I'm pretty sure they were focusing more on developing moralistic stories and spoofing popular media films like "mission impossible"

Nonetheless, nice find. If they did plan this out in the bigger picture, good for them. But honestly, I think the best evidence to find if this was an accident is within the credits of who developed what quest.

As for the offtopic discussion regarding Jagex's updates, it's offtopic...so I'll TRY to limit what I will say lol. I'm just going to say that some of the small fixes and recent updates have been really helpful to me. Run update, off-line grave preservation, and the Enhanced Excalibur has all been great additions to Runescape. You can't please the world, some people will be purists and say they would rather have restore run potions, loss of graves through disconnection, and the original Excalibur.

This is how the world is. When one person is satisfied, another person is not. I also have to mention that happy people usually do not feel the need to express their happiness while the upset have every reason to rant about every tidbit in their lives. Thus the supposed disproportionate ratio between the Satisfaction and the Complaint.
