So you've been around the block?

The one memory about when I started playing RS is that I created my account about a week after the bunny ear drop on Easter and I wanted them SO bad its wasn't even funny. I still want them even though I don't play anymore. Also spending a whole afternoon trying to find Varrock again after getting killed by a thug or thieve or something in the southern part where the houses are. Boy, If only I headed north and not west from Lumbridge.... :wall:

edit: also the full rune w/ baxe pose in the tipit dynamic signatures is me :)

I believe I started just after the Dragon Slayer quest was released. So I also got to see level 3's wearing rune armor, dueling anywhere, drops of pumpkins, masks, santa hats, crackers (phats), only the normal 'cape' int eh game, then the release of Legends cape, no running #-o , and a lot more that I forgot while typing this out..

Ahh the memories.

ahaha, just remembering walking up to a yew tree behind varrock castle (i think thats where it was..) and seeing a bunch of pale white, bald level 3s in green shirts chopping. So I say something and they ALL DISAPPEAR. I loved that, lol. Silly bots.

On Topic: I remember when I traded my Dragon Med for a Red Partyhat, if that gives any indication of how long I've been around. It's been since the middle of '03.

There are so many things, I'll only be able to scratch the surface. The hours spent merchanting, the ups and downs of it all. Until it culminated for me during the dupe where I turned a dragon medium (worth a hefty 2.1mil at the time) and a mask set into 3 party hats, which sustained me money-wise for the rest of my playing.

I loved all the bugs I would discover during quests. Walking off the map into the far west side of the wildy that technically wasn't part of the wild and holding a drop party there was great.

My time with the TET was amazing, I really enjoyed the 300 war I hosted, among other things. Working on the bestiary as crew here was fun too. Loved logging on for the update and adding all the new monsters while questing.

During the summer, being able to log on in the morning and do whatever quest came out the day of. Getting those new items and ridiculously color coordinating them with the rest of my wardrobe in an excessively tacky manner. Especially racing to get the most xp when new quests came out.

Late rs1/early rs2 pking. And rs2 beta was great, glitches and everything. Gnome-ball pk'ing was amazing. For those that don't know, you could hit several hit bubbles per second. We would gang up on the KBD and kill it within seconds after it spawned. And pk'ing in Corruption was fun too. Lot's of memories pk'ing with them. The clan I made myself, The Elite Fellowship, was a great time too.

Being able to freely trade items around with friends, and merchanting without restriction. Always was fun lending party hats around to close rl friends. The few merchanting forums I ran with Duke Freedom were a blast as well, as was the editorial team we ran on runehead that was then transferred here.

And can't forget the friends I've made playing. Nothing tops those memories.

I apparently joined within a week of the release of the TzTok-Jad, I recently discovered.

I remember hordes of soulless level 3's chopping yews.

It's another "Who went to runescape.com first?" contest. "Old school" talk gets old pretty quickly.

I wouldn't say so. It's clear from how people post whether they're listing their oldest memories to prove they've been around (kind of sounds like the topic of the title). But most people are just posting their favorite memories without any regard to how long ago it was.

@stevepole: Similar thing happened to me. With the earlier drops though, they were based off UK time. So I logged on after dinner in the US on Easter, and all the drops were finished for the day. I was pretty bummed.

I'm not good with dates.. I simply just remember logging in one day, and the news panel telling me I'd last set recovery questions in February of 2002. I wouldn't call it old school, merely that it's fun to watch the game progress, as I've aged almost 8 years.

Probably even earlier than that. If I remember, that's the default date for all accounts set earlier than that.

It's not really a good idea having such old recoveries. You should change them regularly.

Ah, always love reminiscing about what one can remember. I especially love it when people post their pictures. I started September 2004 I believe, so I'm not Old School but I've been around the block. And now for the obligatory list:

I remember...

...Yo-Yo's being released from Santa.

...Missing the Rubber Chicken event.

...old prices of items.

...killing goblins for chain mail and selling to the general store to make some gp.

...losing my silverlight sword in the maze for Dragon Slayer. I was so upset by the guy who told me to go first.

...going from level 44 to 46 after beating Dragon Slayer. I skipped my favorite number. :(

...running away from the highway man when I started.

...not going anywhere without a newcomer's map.

...FINALLY beating the Prince Ali rescue quest so I could pass for free.

...getting members for the first time, and my first stop was to finally past the gates to the north of Fally. That was a great day in my career haha.

...thinking that once I used all four charges on my Glory Ammy, it would crumble like my ring of dueling.

And a bunch of other personal memories such as becoming a TET member, joining up with the OoC and of course getting the Santa Hat that I have played so much for. Now I am "retired" in peace with that item.

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

I also remember Duke Freedom posting his article about rares in the Times and pretty much all rares skyrocketing in the weeks after.

And many think the 'old' Runescape was better.

For some things it was, for most it wasn't.

Most just forget the bad things and only remember the good things.

Buying Rune long for 40k (or was it 30k? Oh the years have passed) from Champions guild and not having 40 attack, so I killed Dwarves by Falador from 35 to 40 attack with an Addy 2h. I used that Rune Long till Rs2 when I switched to scimmy and then eventually Dragon etc etc I use whip.

Here's one i forgot to add:

Not realizing that rare items were manipulated back in the day. I found this out when i heard santa's were being bought out by chessy so they'd increase in price. When i heard this it was like realizing santa wasn't real, however strange that may sound.. :|

I remember the day RuneCrafting came out, I was so happy. Speculation over summoning and player-owned-houses, I can't believe I'm still playing. It amazing when you realize that what used to be pure speculation and myth is now a highly integrated part of the game, where you wonder what you ever did without it.

I still wish I hadn't missed the rubber chickens, or that I wouldn't have just left the p-hats laying on the ground. Stupid mistakes that can't be corrected because they're in the past. Today's holiday event items will never be as highly revered as the old ones, everyone has them, nobody cares.

You're admitting a mistake then saying nobody cares about todays items, but the same story will occur in 5 years, I was so stupid to miss the carrot from easter 09! I wish i would have gotten it!

Anyone remember Barabarian outpost being at legends guild doing agility there? then when legends was added they moved it to where it is now, i hated walking up there

Anyone remember the 'Rares stall" April fools we did? I Photoshopped a stall in ardougne with rares on it and posted it as a fake update jagex pulled. Reasoning was jagex decided they were unfair advantages and wanted to give them out for free to be in the spirit of the game.

Then we had some good ones done by the TIF staff. My favorite was the fake staff board. You guys actually got me with that one for awhile. :P

As pking is the only thing that has kept me through the years and nobody's really recollected on those yet:

RSC

1. 3 hitting existed. You had to be in 3 rounds of combat before being able to run.

2. Catching. Where good pkers could predict where you would run and kill you before you could eat up.

3. Watching Sue Me actually 3 hit somebody and then watch him get pjed. I looted a rune chain and legs. This was when i first got really into pking.

4. My first pker. Since combat was caculated different in rsc, combat levels were generally lower. I rmember it being awesome being lvl 27 and being able to hit a 9 with melee.

5. All weapons being the same speed.

6. Full rune being incredibly easy to rip through.

7. Ranged and Magci where cast during your melee hits.

8. Autocatching Macros- debating which pkers could catch for real and not.

RS2

1. In the first days, I was the bomb. On my "main" i had magic lvls to teleport, which before resulted in bad pking because they gave me extra combat levels. But for the first month or while I was fearless as I was the only pker that could teleport during battle.

2. Seeing I Mahatma I at 57 at fortress.

3. When the fortress was actually cool to go pking at.

4. The first wave of awe inspiring pure pker vids came out- Mahatma and Volcanic Fox being the first well known 99 str pkers.

5. Level 90's pures maxing 33 with whip-before defenders, before rfd gloves, before metal boots, before torso, before firecapes.

6. Wanabe and Real pkers making names with I slkjfds I and X asdfds X and O asldfdsf O.

7. Green drag pkers. lol.

8. I british I- *****SO MUCH CREDIT***** THE FIRST pker to show the range/r2h switch. revolutionized f2p pking.

9. Making a range/r2h pure before many people knew about it.

10. When calling people safers became popular. Im afraid i took part in this as range/r2h mainly used this term to making others drop to lower healths. I was one of those people that if i couldnt KO you, i'd flame you.

11. Same with Def Noobs = D.

12. Taking the xp from Daero in Monkey Madness thinkgin i could chose between attack and defense xp. I didnt play for a month afterward.

13. Finally getting a firecape at 84 cmbt and 40 defense 43 pray = D>

14. 12/10/07.

15. Trying out bounty hunter, reaching a rogue rank below 100 in the first couple weeks.

16. Quitting for 18 months due to boredom and rl stuff.

17. Coming back to find thses strange Pvp rules and games. 26king, icons, EP, dragon claws.

A couple of non pking related:

1. The Old Nite was the highest skill total. At that time i think it was in the 1500's. Can anyone verify?

2. The highest pray lvl anybody in runescape had was 85.

3. drop trading to all of my pkers from my main. Ive been too lazy to make a self sufficient pure for many years now = ).

1 week after the scythe drop I joined, I remember getting lost in that dwarf-monetary-draynor manor area for a good hour before finding a path which I followed to rimming ton where, JACK POT, free bronze pic and scimmy! I'm not gonna lie, I spent my first good week of Runescape in Rimmington, "my house" which is now a crafting shop but before was a rat infested training area, my neighbors who let me take there bronze scimmy and pic, I had a mine and free cabbage for food.

- "OMG Santa's in fally!"

- " egg me"

- sweating and shaking as I fought a, wait for it, LESSER DEMON with my brand new rune longsword I saved for a month to get in Melzars maze

- Screaming when I killed Elvarg.

-first day of members, lost south of khazard for a long time so I almost quit.

- Fremmnick trials, first members quest I ever did.

- Murder mystery first and last quest I used a guide for 100% of it.

- camping at farmers for the ever rare farming equipment, oddly the boots had the highest value.

- First whip

- first time getting scammed for that same whip.

- Falling in love with con day one.

- Being #2 in hunter that day it was released

Wow, It's nice to be walking down memory lane.

New Siggy in progress.

If you've been playing for 4+ years, I honestly don't see how the game could appeal to you anymore. Since the addition of the GE, RuneScape is pretty much WoW, except everyone has all the professions, and it looks like someone dropped a dookie on your graphics card. The interface has also suffered numerous unnecessary adjustments, although that's not to say that there haven't been some improvements.

Things like cook x and pest control piss me off. A 99 skill used to be a rather big achievement, now everyone has a 99.

RuneScape has only gotten worse.

Most people like the easy-to-play aspect of the game. The fact that there are no downloads/low CPU requirements to play the game and just the fact that the game's been around for a while means that it has a big 'built-in' fan base. Those that stick around through thick and thin. You can't really put RS and WoW in the same catagory for comparison because they're two totally different games. WoW has a lot better graphics but you also pay for it in regards to the big CPU requirements to play it and the monthly price being something like $30? a month. RS has decent graphics for Java, a low monthly membership cost and is updated rather frequently.

For the price RS is a good game. You get what you pay for.
