August 8, 200916 yr JaGeX is a very large company and RuneScape is played on a global scale, you can't imagine companies not wanting to put up advertisements, players will see the advertisements, then go out and spend money on whatever the advertisement was. I can, go look at maplestory and WoW, I guess they're much more comfortable with their profits.

Something I'm *really* glad Jagex doesn't do. If the price for that is ads on the main page, then so be it. Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...
August 8, 200916 yr I didn't even notice lol tbh, everything else pales in comparison to how annoying that wolverine ad was, remember that?
August 8, 200916 yr I didn't actually notice lol. I only ever check the news and then click. Not the most observant of people! :? Real Life Blog
August 8, 200916 yr I was pretty annoyed by it, seeing as it popped up when I loaded the home page about five minutes after waking up. I'm thinking that most everybody in Hyt who isn't Cry or Kai was probably annoyed by it too, honestly... Anyway, as soon as I saw this, I was basically thinking what the OP said as a joke. Part of the reason I like RS because I can't stand the invasiveness--and pop culture content--of ads on more popular sites like Myspace. The whole sidebar thing is completely unnecessary, but I'm glad that it's at least not on any page of the website but the front.
August 8, 200916 yr I'm guessing this is only for users in the US? Since I'm a Canadian and not seeing it. I wouldn't care though, more money for them and it's not like it's replacing actual content. quit
August 8, 200916 yr I made a topic similar to this one when they had the wolverine popup add. I now know why Jagex was so willing to lose money on certain aspects of their game, cause they can do crap like this and get it back. Seriously, they need to stop with this new add campain soon or people are going to head other places. People come to runescape because of the "clean" feeling, if they wanted to be bumbarded with adds they could go elsewhere. Im disapointed in all this add stuff recently. I pay for the game and was told it would be add free, now i have to deal with this crap because they need to make up for lost profit else where. Lame -.-
August 8, 200916 yr Browsers better than Internet Explorer have existed for... oh, I don't know, since the beginning of the internet? Even if you don't use Firefox regularly (Opera, Safari, and Chrome are all respectable browsers), you could switch to Firefox as your "RuneScape Browser." And quite frankly, I'm glad Jagex is getting all these advertisement deals. I am a tree.
August 9, 200916 yr There is no need for this topic, use Adblock Plus & Firefox or quit your yapping.
August 10, 200916 yr It's based on "GeoIP" and the ads are localized, or don't display at all depending on where you live. U.S. people age 13-24 with internet connections and thus access to spare money (either from family or jobs) are a hugely desired demographic for advertisers, so in that case you'd be seeing those ads every day.
August 10, 200916 yr My only concern about this is their standards for which movies they are willing to advertise  . I mean first Wolverine and now the G.I Joe Movie (Which now stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity if I am thinking of the same movie). http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22 99 Necromancy since 11/22/25 Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 33 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 10 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots
August 10, 200916 yr Personally, I find the popups when I open up Tip.It more annoying than that. :-w
August 12, 200916 yr I don't see what the film advertisers are thinking. If F2Pers won't pay $6/month to upgrade from a demo (to the full game) they play 12+ hours/week, why would they pay $7.50 to go see a 2 hour movie?

August 12, 200916 yr Wow, adblock plus is teh pwnage  It blocks everything imaginable! I never got the ads though, probably for people in the US ;)

No. These advertisements are on the main page, so both F2P and P2P'ers are able to view them, also the majority of people watch movies whether or not they have other hobbies. On topic, I have no problem with these advertisements, a lot of websites do it now and you barely notice with the short amount of time you spend on the main page anyway.

Something I'm *really* glad Jagex doesn't do. If the price for that is ads on the main page, then so be it. Blizzard makes 172 million monthly in revenue from WoW alone, not to mention 40 bucks per ticket for Blizzcon every year, that sells out within minutes. They're not strapped for cash at all. You can't compare Blizzard to Jagex, financial-wise. That's like saying that normal guy shouldn't have any problem lifting that boulder. The crane did it just fine!

Because Blizzard have been around for a long time, and created an mmo that only smelly 20 year-olds who live in basements can enjoy. Which is around 11 Million people. Wow
August 12, 200916 yr Author It's just silly, a high-tech style movie advertised on a medieval game... :?: Just because we play a medieval game, doesn't mean we're all medieval haha. But I agree with you on the fact it just seems so out of place. Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem..
