Once Upon a Time in America - havent watched a movie lately, decided it was time. this is a great movie, the plot twists in it are remarkable. normally i dont notice good or bad acting, unless its really bad, for some reason i was thinking about how good the acting was in this movie. robert de niro was great, and everyone else was too. i felt kind of bad about it but i thought that young deborah was nice looking, in a wait 4 years for her to grow up kind of way. turns out she was at the time 14 year old Jennifer Connolly, so she did end up becoming really hot. that made me feel better. anyways, a great movie. they had to throw in the anti-buisness pro-socialist union stuff in there, but i dont let that affect my judgment of the movie. cant help but notice it when its in everymovie though...

Hmmm...I watched Seven Samurai. I'm not sure how to feel just now. I'm getting lots of contrasting feelings...Where should I start?

Alright...I'll start by saying that the directing/camerawork was at times poor, and sometimes incredible. I think the former was in part due to old techniques, and perhaps also lack of technology/re-mastering (when you look at the quality in this compared to, say Rear Window of the same year, its all splotchy and the camerapeople didn't really smoothly move the camera. Comical! But on the other hand, at sometimes I would just be able to look at the screen and my jaw would drop. This movie holds some of the most amazing shots I've ever seen, especially in the last 20 minutes. The hole mud/rain/mist combat thing was incredible...I could just watch that last thing over and over...It was amazingly well put together. It really made me wish the rest of the movie was like that. The rest seemed to be switching back and forth between beautiful and downright ugly.

The acting was pretty much the same deal. The Seven Samurai were all great, and a few of the villagers were pretty good...But as Indy said when he said it, it's often horrendous and occassionally funny. I did thooroughly enjoy the acting of the samurai though...It was consistantly good, and occassionally exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the funny man, but even more the good samurai...the one who is the best at actually fighting. I loved it when he just leaves in the night, comes back with a gun and says something to the effect of "Killed two" and then goes to sleep. Awesome :).

The story was sufficient, I really liked the ending. It was REALLY long. It sort of dragged on a bit, (there were times around the beginning to middle when I was really struggling to keep my eyes open (it was necessary to read the subtitles)) It really doesn't matter what movie it is, no movie should be this long...It neared 3 1/2 hours, and while it didn't drag that bad, just the fact that it was that long lended it self to draggage...Ifunowutimean.

I also couldn't believe that in Japan 1954 they could make sure an epic, grand film. That was an addition. However, this should have no effect. As I see it, a timeless classic is a timeless classic because it's great. You shouldn't have to rely on this to make it better. This was definately a grand film.

Overall, I would stand somewhere between Indy and How2pk...I would say it was a good movie, and a grand movie, but not necessarily a great movie. It may be low on my top 100, but it definately didn't suck, and it definately isn't number 2 on my list.

I was kinda mad that it took from when I got home from school and situated, to like 7:30. I don't think I'm gonna do my homework. I'm a rebel.

after having watched the other three, if i watched seven samurai again id probably agree almost exactly with you. i think it took me a little longer to get used to it than most people, but now that ive seen more of it i would be ok with it. i might watch it again sometime, but as you said, it takes up your whole night :D

That's partly because Seven Samurai is shot on location and Rear Window is completely shot in studios. Hitch didn't like to shoot location because it was too complex with lighting and so. And of course both have a completely different style.

Good Bye Lenin! - i dont let my political views get in way of deciding wether or not a movie is good, so i did really think this movie was good. its pro-socialist anti-capitalist down to the core, but the movie has good parts to it. the plot/story was interesting, kept you wondering how he is going to make everything work out. acting was pretty good, and the filming was pretty ok.

Collateral - this is a holly wood movie, big name actors and a fairly straightfoward story. it is exciting though, and i liked it. nothing to special about it, but they didnt do anything wrong in it either. everything was good, just nothing to make it different than other movies. it would be a good one to watch with someone who doesnt know anything about movies, and would generally be confused with independant movies.

I watched Doom again. It wasn't quite as good the second time around, but still better than people tell you.

The main problem of why this movie isn't amazing? They somehow managed to butcher the story, thus making it seem braindead to the general public, and really distancing itself from part of what made the game (Doom III I mean) so good. And really, the first hour or so is very, very poorly written. And while the second is just a bit better, you start to overlook it when the action starts. It's quality entertainment, the set design and overall feeling of the movie captures that fairly well of the game, but the story is completely wrong which really drags it down. Doom is about demons from Hell, and there is no demons from hell. :(.

It's really a shame how this movie had to fall sort of into mediocrity. It's got 2 solid lead characters (The Rock OWNS, and Karl Urban is good also), and a good base story (which, as I mention, they completely discarded), and a pretty solid feel...This had so much more potential than what it showed. Really a shame. But still, it was pretty good.

BTW, I like the FPS part. Though it is about 10x more effective in a theatre. Not really as engrossing on a TV. Still pretty good.

Requiem for a Dream - definently in my top 10, just a great movie. sure youve heard enough about it though, so thats it. decided to watch it because episode 17 of Lost (should be 3 weeks from now for the countries on schedule) is going to be directed by Darren Aronofsky, who also directed Pi, episode about hurley and therefore the numbers. the first "director" lost has had, according to imdb. that seems kind of odd that the other episodes never had one, but whatever.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - classic comedy, cant watch comedies too many times though. this is probably the 5th or 6th time ive seen it, and you can definently tell its not as funny. still a good movie though, if you like british comedy you would probably like this.

Cloaca - Originally this is a t.v. movie, but I had the privilege to watch this in cinema last year, at that time it was great, it really moved me, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Now that I bought it yesterday and seen it for the second time, I don't really like it that much. It was okay, but too artsy fartsy and didn't manage to capute all that emotion again. Yet another perfect example why movies should be seen on the big screen, even the ones that don't use all those special effects and action. 7/10

No, its only because Justin Timberlake has a role in there, thats why

Nah, it's not just because of Justin Timberlake, the entire thing is just plain horrible. Aweful script that's been done about thousand times before, but this is about 10 times worse as usual, the bad direction, I don't see why he chose for the things he did in this movie, it made absolutely no-sense. And you can't put all the blame on Timberlake, and he should get back to dancing, instead of acting. But for some reason they chose to let Timberlake cary the movie, and that's just plain stupid, especially when you've got actors like Spacey and Freeman for assistence.

Tsotsi - One of the movies nominated for an Oscar of best foreign language film. I thought it was slightly dissapointing. I expected a lot more from the townships, and I was curious how they brought them to life in the movie, but in the end we had only like four different locations in the townships, that weren't particulary interesting either. Some important scenes were failed completly by chosing the easy way to go. Of course it wasn't all that bad, Presley did a great job portaying Tsotsi, who was a better gangster than any Scarface out there. And some scenes were really good and succesful for the movie. All in all this wasn't a masterpiece, but it wasn't really bad either. 6.5/10 I'd say.

Gallipoli - Pretty good, if only for the final shot, which is absolutely amazing. It was a pretty nice, yet romanticized, story of two men who become friends who get seperated by war to meet eachother again during the war. Locations were carefuly picked and the events felt very spontanious, which was a good thing. The scenes in war were pretty good, you could deff. see the influence of Paths of Glory. The only thing I wasn't too happy about was the soundtrack, which gives a pretty timeless movie that typical 80's label. 7.5/10 I'd say.
