If you are planning on changing it, will it be a totally different name? Or will you keep some root words and get rid of numbers, etc. Personally, I really want to change my name from d _ _ _ _ u _ _ _ _x to a one word name. I have a few in mind that are available. The only thing holding me back is that I'm so used to being called dux, and because people love that I have more than one space (which is not allowed anymore). As far as we know, it's a display name change. So you still have to log in with your original name, but in-game if you selected a new display name that's what people will see. Also, X is definitely already taken. You have to go to where you create an account, and use that tool to see what names are up for grabs. Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem.. I'd either find a way to keep it as Ice Goddess without a number in it, or just keep the "Ice" part and change the rest. I doubt Jagex will allow you impersonate an other player.... But you raise a valid point. Jagex will need to prevent impersonation.
